I've been watching the other ships in the area.

Only Serenade appears to have docked.

Others were lingering nearby (in case?) but have not docked

or even hove-to to board evacuees via tender

(probably impractical given atmospheric conditions and visibility.)

Barbados is now well under the ash cloud, and lighting is fading fast.

There is no sun.

It's almost like nightfall! We're turning on lights in the house!

 

My wife heard/felt the rumbles and explosions of the  7 a.m. explosion, just an hour ago....Saturday 10th. morning
I didn't...noisy old fridge right near the computer!

Take care..hope you have lots of masks.... you might try covering your car to keep ash off as much as possible.. I think that stuff is very corrosive. take care

Lighting has eased up a bit now,

but it was getting abnormally dark just 15-20 mins. ago!
Lighting is a strange yellowish? cast outside!

 

Car is under cover. No ash fall yet.
Conditions in St. Vincent are seriously dusty, ashy,
everything just covered in grey ash-fall!
We are seeing bits of it, on WhatsApp.

I just received word that the folks on Serenade are

 

 

Those are farm workers on their way to Canada, David...

the St Vincent airport had to be closed

so they were shuttled to St Lucia by cruise ship.

We've had alternating periods of lighter and darker conditions

over the last hour or two.

 

I can just about see (against darker backgrounds) the very fine ash-fall

that is now precipitating.

Has nothing to do with Royal, and certainly not a CDC issue. Barbados and St Lucia said they would not accept unvaccinated evacuees.

I just read how seasonal migrant workers arriving in Toronto can get their vaccines as they arrive at the airport.

My last trip anywhere was to Barbados Jan/March of 2020, right before “it” hit the fan.  We stayed at Sandals for the week, but enjoyed some time off resort.  We were there when Jamaica had their earth quake and you could feel how the people of  Barbados felt for the Jamaicans.  I can only fathom how it is for those today and the last few days on St Vincent.

Your island is a beautiful place. We chartered a boat for a day and cruised the Gold Coast. We look forward to the day we can return from Canada.

Probably was the cruise lines. Can you imagine the set back with the CDC if a covid case breaks out and the ship is denied entry.

I thought that at first, but it has been reported that all the island countries who are accepting evacuees are only accepting ones who have been vaccinated.

Every thing is now covered in fine volcanic dust (our biggest "worry")
but otherwise we're good.

as clouds of varying thickness go over us.
Folks in the North of Barbados seem to be getting thicker dust

and darker spells.

 

I'm thinking this could go on for a few days yet, but don't tell my wife
who wants to get busy with cleanup!

I am gathering clean dust samples for souvenir.

It are the other islands requirements... although I heard the PM say that St Lucia did not have this requirement to enter...but they needed to get it once they arrived. Remember these island have limited hospitals...in fact on past cruise we saw the US Comfort hospital ship in St Lucia to perform surgeries... so you can see why they want to prevent an outbreak. The cruise ships are not equiped to handle passengers... limited staff and supplies so they are simply ferrying people out of harms way... and it turns out preparing some meals as well. I hate seeing people on twitter blaming the cruise lines for the vaccine requirement... shows that no good deed goes unpunished. They have had to move ships out of harms way... at least around Barbados where the ash is making it look like midnight on a moonless night.

not so far away from New Sandy Bay Village.

The ash is incredible. I don't envy those having to clean up. I also wonder what will happen to the palms and other plants covered in ash.

Ash-fall rate this evening ramped-up around 5 p.m.

and is now light but steady at 8:45 p.m.

I have a catching arrangement set up, and the sample is increasing.

 

Everything in the house now has a thin film of light grey ash.

had we known better, perhaps we shoulda locked up things a bit,

shut windows and doors, etc.

I hope you have remembered to check filters and radiators for ash build up. A/C, fridge, cars, CPAP, etc.

Looks like the cruise ships are waiting for further instructions.... the three ships near each other are Serenade of the Seas, Apex and Reflection.... you can also see the Carnival Legend nearby.

The garage for my car is an under-the-house arrangement

where it is not enclosed, yet it's out of the weather generally.

There is NO escape from volcanic dust.

 

This is how it looked this a.m. before a brief wash-off

and then the Dirty Rain fell on it!

Almost a waste of time but not quite.
