@KirkNCI'm sitting here with a space heater on.  Mid 40s and light rain now with a frost warning for tonight and lows in the 30s for the next several days.  Seems like just yesterday I was here at my desk sweltering.  This room gets full sun for a good part of the day all summer and gets really warm.  I'm going to have to turn on the heat later and dig out a blanket.  I typically don't need heat until around Thanksgiving.

This will just make that hot Caribbean sun feel even more welcome. 🌞

Good morning and thanks all!
@cruzn singleI am so sorry for your loss!
@StLouisCruisers yikes!  Glad you weren’t seriously hurt!  Was that an LG wall oven?  Ours died after using the self cleaning.
We saw an interesting display at Highclere Castle aka Downton abbey,  as one of the owners was involved in the discovery of the King Tut tomb.

Well tried again for aurora photos,  without luck as we went home too early,  but got a lovely sunset.

Luckily being surrounded by water makes us a little warmer, it’s 60 here but the wind is huffing.

Wow!  CC just did a number on my post.  It posted it while I was still writing, and when I went back to edit it to finish, it posted it again.  When I finally finished, CC said it was too late to make any changes.

Now, I'll try to remember what was not posted and try again.  Please forgive any typos, etc. as I had not gotten around to proofreading the post.

@lindaler  Take it easy today, and I hope you feel better tomorrow.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, great news you failed the test.  While allergies and colds are not fun, they are easier to deal with.

This morning we got a not totally unexpected email from our TA.  Princess has cancelled our 2022 world cruise out of Sydney for next May.  The uncertainty about which ports will be open was given as the reason.  We can get our money back, get a FCC or transfer to the 2024 WC.  We have ten days to decide.  We booked the 2023 WC as a backup, so I'm not sure what we'll decided.

Thank you @JazzyVand @Quartzsite Cruiser

DH is home now, doing fine.

I'm wondering which would have been worse, sitting in a cold car, or coming home like I did -- I got 3 different calls from the clinic, each telling me to come get him at a different time.  First I was told to be there at 10:15.  Then I was told to be there at 10:00.  As I was going out the door a few minutes before 10, I got yet another call telling me  to be there at 10:30.  I had barely taken off my shoes and coat when I got another call, basically saying he's ready to go, where are you? Then when I got there (in the pouring rain) at the pick up spot, I was told to ring the bell, only once.  I did, and waited...and waited.  I decided to ring it again, and finally someone came out, I told her who I was waiting for and she said she would get him.  More waiting.  More people were coming to pick up patients so I was told to move forward -- by this time I'm afraid my frustration was getting the better of me.  It was now 10:45.  The nurse who had told me to move forward came out and told me it would be a few more minutes....I guess I'm glad I went home, at least I wasn't sitting in a cold car waiting for what would have been over 3 hours!  We've always been happy with our care we get as a patient, but things like this seem to happen too often.

Hello Again, I received an interesting email offer from HAL this afternoon.  Free inside stateroom on select sailings.  Cabins above that category seem to be at prices that are very tempting.  $200 deposit that becomes OBC. I’d consider booking if I knew the protocols.

I was lucky enough to get to see the King Tut Exhibit in Los Angeles in 1978. We had tickets and still had to wait outside in line for hours but it was well worth the wait.

I gave up on checking my bood pressure long ago. It is all over the place and my cardiologist can't seem to find the right medicine to control to normalize it. One day it will be extremely low and I feel quite faint, then the next day extremely high. I prefer it to be on the low side as multiple family members on both sides of my family have died of strokes.

I am another one that is extremely grateful not to have any stairs to climb. So dangerous to us oldsters.

I have been to today's port but couldn't find in photos in my scrapbooks. Thank you to all who posted photos refreshing my memories.

Jane.

That would probably be a casino offer. If you are interested contact your travel agent or call HAL reservations. They are usually very good deals. I did that for my recent Caifornia Coastal cruise.

Love your name, I am another Crazy Cat Lady.

No, the oven was Kitchenaid.  I'd never heard that self cleaning ovens can fail due to repeated usage of that feature until other Dailyites talked about it.  Guess we'll use spray cleaners in the future.

Good mroning from Quartzsite.

All the days are good to celebrate.  We each have our own BP checker, but I keep forgetting to check it.  I wish more people would use common sense.  We saw the King Tut exhibit in Ciaro in 2003.  Although we had a guide for the day, we were allowed to roam aorund the floor with the King Tut exhibit.

King Tut's mask and a different view of the mask that is rarely shown.  With all the people from the bus wandering around, it was almost impossible to get a picture without seeing people though the glass cases.

The Woody Allen quote is a little weird, but then he is weird.  Like @ger_77 Gerry, I am not a fan of Woody Allen or his movies.  He does seem rather pathic, and maybe like @HAL4NOW said, that's why he regrets not being someone else.

The meal sounds good if the spinach is not over powering the rest of the dish.  I much prefer my spinach raw in a salad, or maybe a little in a pasta dish.  I'll pass on the drink, but the wine sounds nice.

We have been to Fort-de-France, Martinque, a couple of times, but that was in 1987 and 1991, when we had a film camera.  In 1987, that was the day all our luggage finally caught up with us.  While we flew to San Juan, our luggage got stuck in the Miami airport when we changed planes.  This was our first cruise, but 2 days without luggage except our carry on, did not stop us from cruising.  🛳️

I have enjoyed the pictures of Martinque, and it brought back happy memories.  Thank you,

@cruzn single  Our condolences on the loss of your DBIL.  Safe travels to Pheonix.

@jam379  Hope the weather cooperates and you can get the window insatlled.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I glad you weren't badly hurt in your fall.  Also, glad it was just the element in the oven.

@cunnorl  That is good news that your DS is home now.

@summer slope  Thank you for the update on your friend and his wife.  Glad the surgery went well.

@Cruising-along  Sorry about your fall, but glad it was not more serious.  Good thoughts that your DH's cataract surgery goes well and also for the one next week.

@Horizon chaser 1957  Glad you arrived safely.  Thank you for the beautiful pictures.

@smitty34877  Terry, good news that your washer was fixable.

@dfish  Debbie, thank you for the news about KK's husband.

Lenda, we saw the King Tut exhibit in 2014 but were told before going in not to take photos inside the museum.  Therefore this is my only photo at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities in Cairo.  The outside!🙄

@Crazy For Cats My upcoming Eurodam is on one of those casino offers.  I also just booked B2B Alaska for next 6/1 and 6/8.  I'm fine with inside cabins.  I did purchase Club Orange for Eurodam, just because I've never done an guarantee and didn't want to end up in a really noisy location.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I had a quasi B2B booked for February on Carnival.  First was 11 nights on Spirit from Brisbane to the South Pacific.  Three days on land, then 12 nights on Splendor from Sydney to New Zealand.  The Spirit cruise has already been cancelled but we're still waiting for the Splendor cancellation.  Unfortunately, Carnival says the FCC/OBC are only good on re-booking OZ.  Otherwise it's refund only (and the deposits were minimal).  I'm very disappointed.  I especially wanted to visit New Zealand.

@cunnorlCharlene I'm glad to hear your sister is home. Prayer that her health will improve significantly. By the way,I keep meaning to ask where are you in Cocoa Beach? We stay at The Sands a few times a year and will be there for a few days around Christmas this year.

@StLouisCruisersSandi I am sorry to hear about your fall. Hopefully you have bundled up today and rested. Be aware of any new aches that may pop up. I'm glad your oven was able to be fixed.

@Horizon chaser 1957happy you made it safe and sound. Enjoy!

@Cruising-alonggood to hear DH's surgery went well. Doctor's offices can be aggravating at times. Sorry to hear you had a recent fall.

@cruzn single I am very sorry for your loss. Prayers for your family.

@summer slopethank you for the update on Frank and Rita.

@dfishgood plan, Debbie, to find one level living. Our house does have a basement, or as we've learned they call it a terrace level here since it is finished. But it is for guests, so once renovations are complete we will rarely go downstairs.

@smitty34877and @Vict0riannyes, waking up in the middle of the night is aggravating. Hopefully it will end soon for us all.

Actually, be careful which spray cleaners you use. Some of them are very caustic and can eat thru the heating elements is you get any cleaner on them. I make a paste of baking soda and spread it where needed. Let sit for a few hours and everything usually comes up. A little more work but less  invasive to the oven.

Speaking of appliances, we decided to get one step ahead of the appliance gremlins and bought a fridge, dishwasher and washer yesterday. I should have the fridge in about two weeks but will have to wait for the dishwasher and washer until end of November early December.  We were lucky that the store we frequent had a shipment on order. Their next expected shipment isn’t until April. I know my fridge won’t last that long. Fingers crossed for delivery dates.

on another note, I wanted to order a specific Norco bicycle but my bike shop still can’t fill orders for 2022. They don’t expect the shortage to ease until august 2023! First world problems, I know.

Thinking of everyone who has cares and concerns today and hoisting a drink to those celebrating.

Eva, thanks for that advice.  Luckily there is only the top element visible and needing to be avoided, then.  The lower element is hidden beneath the oven floor  (instead of visible inside the oven) which makes it so hard to change out.  It required the whole unit to be removed for them to get to it.

Brrr. I'm back from the dentist. After some drilling, I now have a temporary crown. They did 3D pictures and will send those out for the crown making as it's not an easy one. I'm still numb and trying to slurp some coffee without it spilling down my shirt!

Oh ugh on the dentist 😣 Glad you got it over with and hope that the numbing wears off fast fingers crossed

Our house is a two storey but my biggest rule when we were buying is that I HAD to have a main floor laundry.  And I do - nicely hidden in a little spot between the dining room and kitchen.  Makes things easy. 😉

I feel your pain. 😔 DH had cataract surgery last year and we live too far away so I took my Ipad and got a coffee and sat in MacDonald’s parking lot for a bit, visited Costco at senior’s hour (my first visit since covid hit) and headed back to the hospital to wait for the cell call.  He was ready earlier than they said he would be so I was glad I was there.  But, the wait for him to come out of the hospital was pretty ludicrous 😉

Glad you didn’t wait in the cold car 👍

Sandi, we were there in April 2003, and I think between the Iraq war and SARS, they were just glad to have tourists.  The old Regal Princess was the first cruise ship with passengers to go through the Suez Canal after we invaded Iraq.  I have a lot of pictures, but most have reflections of people or people in them.

On another note, those of you with 2-story houses (but the laundry is on the main floor), do you have a laundry shoot?  Of course we'd still have to carry the laundry back up the stairs (bedrooms are all upstairs) but at least we wouldn't be carrying it down the stairs.

Actually, yes.  I do have a laundry chute but I don’t use it.  It’s more work to put the clothes in than just bring the basket down 😉

Besides the bottom is too deep and Marley and Miko’s leashes and other dog necessities are in the bottom portion 😉

The 3D process for making crowns is so much easier, at least for me.  No more needing the big tray for impressions -- YUCK! 😱  And my dentist can make the crowns in the office, so it was one visit, a long one, but just one.  Hope the numbing has worn off by now.

Debbie, I totally agree about a one story house.  After several two story houses, when we moved 22 years ago, we built a single story, and our house in Quartzsite is also a single story.  So much safer, unless you do like I did a few years ago, and trip over the vacuum cleaner -- no damage except to my pride.

Actually, we were expecting the cancellation after all the turmoil Covid has caused the last 18+ months.  Australia is now taking tentative steps to open up, but with all the restrictions on cruising worldwide, I can understand why Princess felt they could not guarantee the ports.  Since things have been so iffy since we booked in April, I really did not let myself get excited about the cruise which was still six months away.

We've decided to take the offer to transfer to the  2024 WC at the same price.  In two years, who knows what the cruise will cost.  We can always cancel before final payment if we decide we don't want to do the cruise.

I tried the baking soda paste to clean my oven after I'd used it for about ten years.  I did not get the good results you did. Maybe, it was too dirty, and I think I waited too long.  Parts of the oven that weren't too bad came clean, but the really dirty parts are still a little dirty.   I'm still finding some baking soda paste residue in the oven.
