Vegan Food On Princess

After having a great week in September on the Regal we are considering a family cruise next year with Princess.

One of our sons is a vegan and on our last cruise could not find any vegan options on any of the menus, does anybody have any experience of vegan food on Princess ships or are aware if vegan options are possible.

We would be very grateful for any information. Thank you

The Restaurant Manager (formerly known as the Headwaiter) will provide menus and meet with her every night at dinner to take her order for the next day’s meals. I could usually tweak the menu items a bit and find something I liked but occasionally just went with a chickpea curry. It is more difficult to get things like brown rice and quinoa.

We just got off the Regal Princess in the last week and noticed an insta post from a fellow passenger (wansbroughs.cruise.blog) that the main dining room had a separate Vegan menu

As dides has correctly stated, we recently spent 4 nights on Regal Princess and my wife was totally surprised to find out they now have a vegan menu in the MDR. We only dined in the MDR 2 nights out of 4 but there were different menus. Not all the serving staff were aware so you will need to ask.

Well done Princess Cruises! Hopefully they will do now do something in the speciality restaurants so we can enjoy these venues together too. (Time to one up on their rivals) 😉

Thanks for the question jdacombe and thanks for the menu dides and wansbrough.

My son is a Vegan too, and I am actually leaning toward switching my Alaska 2022 cruise to Holland America.  Would anybody know who does Vegan better: Princess or HAL?

I am surprised that Princess has not put out a press release about this.

Positive news for once.

That is exactly what I thought, it must be relatively new because some of the waiters didn't know either. I always thought they had a run down of the dishes before service and were told what to recommend. They must be cooking these is a separate area of the galley but it must be a trade secret. 🤐

I heard that HAL has a vegetarian menu that includes/flags vegan options.

Thank you for all the input, it's certainly given us some food for thought.

It is nothing new, hence no press release.

If it isn’t new then why didn’t any of us know anything about it? I am dairy free and they never told me that there was a vegan menu.  I’m not vegan but I would safely be able to order from that menu.  I’m looking forward to checking it out during my next cruise.

On the Enchanted inaugural cruise in November, I asked to see the vegan menu (which I only knew about from a thread here on CC) and the head waiter checked into and reported that it had not yet been rolled out on Enchanted.

I'm not vegan, but sometimes travel with vegans who were disappointed by what was offered on our last cruise together (Golden Princess August 2019), so having a vegan menu available on all ships would go a long way toward getting them to cruise with Princess again.

I am curious but did you ever go into the cruise personalizer in the past and look at the food sensitivity and allergies part and select dairy free or any of the other options?

I suspect in the past it depended on which port the ship sailed out of and if any passengers had requested vegan diet in advance.

I suspect there are more vegan passengers on cruises out of west coast ports than there are on cruises out of Texas.

If you're not a strict vegan, most lines have Indian vegetarian options, which I find tastier than other vegan/vegetarian options and much more filling. Carnival even includes them nightly as a MDR option. I think they probably use ghee, clarified butter, so thus aren't purely vegan. Many of the chefs are Indian, so you're getting people who are specialists and love to try to impress those who order Indian options. Royal and NCL also have big buffet Indian options, whereas I only saw one each day on my last Princess cruise.

Most definitely and I always send an email to the dietary department letting them know my booking number and my allergy.

The potato chowder and the risotto both sound really good to me. Which port did you sail from?

I, too, never knew there was a vegan menu. I am not vegan but like to eat plant based sometimes. I keep putting in the after cruise survey, they need more plant based options. I've had the ratatouille as an entre with mixed success. Mostly it's delicious but on one ship, it was totally flavorless and starchy from the potatoes (I prefer ratatouille without potatoes - this was the only ship that used potatoes in the ratatouille). I may order the quinoa without the fish next time. You can usually find good vegetarian options in the buffet (e.g. lentils - I'm assuming they are vegan but I don't know for sure). I would love to hear everyone's favorite vegetarian/vegan options.
