Sorry I haven’t been on the Daily for the last few days.

I just haven’t been in a good place and tired of fighting B.S., bureaucracy, feeling helpless & just plain tired.  And just didn’t seem to have time to keep up.

I’m alive and kicking, never fear.  Hoping to be back when I can pick myself up a little bit and can post some good memes as this is a great place to be ♥️

Thanks to Rich for the Daily, Roy for the lists & all of you for caring.

My continued prayers for everyone on the Care list and joy in the Celebration list.

Prayers coming Buddy's way but also feeling very fortunate.  First, a year ago I had essentially the same heart surgery that @NextOne DH never recovered from and had was back to about 90% of my pre-problem status within a weak and now have gone through radiation with minimal side effects.  May Buddy get through the latest setback and start seeing an improvement.

Good morning again.  At least, with daylight savings time beginnnig tonight, we only had to change our clocks once since Puerto Vallarta.

Off and on the last couple of years, I have looked up my ancestors on Ancestry. com.  I was able to trace some of my father's side of the family back to the late 1600s in Ireland.  Many on my mother's side could be traced back to colonial times in the Mid-Atlantic region.  We also know that one of DH's ancestors came from England as an indentured servant in 1627.

I was a Bownie and a Girl Scout as were the DDs.  I remember taking them to the  A&P in Delaware to sell cookies.  We did a pretty good business that day.

DH is a fan of Alfred Hitchcock movies, and there are some I like, especially North by Northwest.  We enjoy trying to spot his cameos in each movie.

The Nin quote is very true.  We'll pass on the meal as we like meat in our burgers.  The wine sounds nice, but we'll pass on the G&T.

We've been to Santorini twice.  In 2016 on the Prinsendam we took the cable car up and walked around.  In 2019 on Veendam, we did a tour that included Akrotiri and Oia with a ride down on the cable car.    Thank you @bennybear and @Cruising-along for your pictures.  Mine, which I posted the first time Santorini was the port of the day, are very similar.

@JAM37 Julia, best  wishes for the best possible outcome for your situation.

@mamaofami  Carol, again YIKES! 😱  I'm just glad no one was in the kitchen when the cabinet fell.  A suggestion, you have your handyman ckeck the other cabinets when he rehangs the fallen one.

@marshhawk  I hope your DH pain is more manageable with the meds.

@Mr. Boston  That is good news that you can be taken off the care list.

@TiogaCruiser  I'm happy your project is almost finished.  Thanks for the pictures.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, please be careful shoveling the snow.

@fatcat04  I'm glad your DMIL is settling in her new place and is already doing better.  You are an angel for doing all you did for her.  You have also given us something to think about.

@Cruise Suzy  That is good news that no one was injured in the tornado.

@Sea Viewer  Enjoy your short visit with your sister.

@Horizon chaser 1957  Good news that you got your lab work do sooner.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, sending positive thoughts that Buddy responds to the antibiotics and improves quickly.

@Vict0riann  Ann, we will still be on the Kdam when you board, and IIRC, @Live4cruises will be boarding the same day you do.  Hope we can arrange a mini Dailyite get-together.

@irishjim  🎉 🎊 HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY, SHIELA! 🎂 🍾

@kazu  Jacqui, thank you for your quick post.  I'm sure I was not the only Dailyite who was concerned when we did hear from you for a couple of days. Please, rest and take care of yourself.  Let Marley take care of you with his l9ve and company.

Lenda

We’ve been to Santorini several times on various HAL ships.  On the first visit, which was on the Rotterdam, we took an extended tour that included a stop at the Akrotiri excavation site.

We returned a year later aboard the Noordam and rented a car for the day.  We were able to have lunch at an out of the way restaurant recommended by the rental car agent (probably owned by her brother 😀).4BD6D90E-9866-451D-A557-9AC8F8AB479E.thumb.jpeg.eedfa8a8a159afe797940264fc7e86ca.jpeg

We were able to see both black and red beaches.

During our cruise stops, the only towns we’ve visited are Fira and Oia.  On our last visit, we just had lunch in Fira and walked around the town.B56B1CB6-E820-4862-BB46-680C56F3CB4B.thumb.jpeg.643fe8909916472d7949788c86b55def.jpeg

Page 5 of The Daily! We crossed the international date line last night, I imagine that I’ll spend the whole day wondering why it is Sunday, where is Saturday and should I take Saturday or Sunday vitamins this morning? The Zuiderdam continues to provide so many reasons to cruise;  food, music, conversation, bridge lessons, get-togethers, happy hours, crafts, the gym, the spa, the views.

Be assured of my prayers every day.  I know how hard this is.  Not only the heartbreak of placing Jose in long term care, but the hoops one has to jump through to do it.  We are all with you through this.

Well, the City of Saint Paul had a special birthday gift for Mitzi - NO WATER 😬!

Apparently, there is a water main break down the road and they needed to shut it off for "a few hours". I was in the middle of prepping the eggplant parmesan and spaghetti squash. I filled enough containers with water to be able to do the cooking, but we could be without flushable toilets for awhile. So Niall and Emilee agreed to reschedule until tomorrow. Luckily, I am at a stage (sweating the eggplant, squash in oven) where I can hold the food until tomorrow.

Good morning and thanks all!  Happy birthday to Lenda and Mitzi and our eldest DGD!   A special Happy 80 to Sheila!
DH has uncovered all kinds of interesting tidbits re Genealogy.  We’ve visited Santorini countless times on a cruise and stayed there for several days.    Last time we were the only ship.  If you get the chance visit Akrotiri,  perhaps Atlantis?

Jacqui, does your area have a Senior or healthcare advocate who might be able to help navigate the red tape?

Know you, José & Marley are always in my prayers and often in my thoughts.

Good afternoon, checking in while waiting for sail-away of the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Happy Birthday wishes to @irishjim's DW Sheila, to @bennybear's DGD, and to anyone else I might have missed.

@StLouisCruisers I will certainly offer extra prayers for Buddy; he's been through so much.  Let's hope our prayers help get him through this next phase to recovery.

@kazu you've got so much on your plate, I can't imagine how you're coping.  Take the time you need to get things straightened out for Jose, and for you and Marley, too.  Know that you're in our hearts along the way.

@mamaofami holy smokes, you just can't catch a break, can you?  So thankful the cabinet came off in the middle of the night, not when you or someone else was in the kitchen trying to prep a meal.  Stay safe!

Have a great afternoon and evening, y'all!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Santorini 1979

Here is a picture of my partner in crime (the message in a bottle).    She was scared to death riding the mule (or maybe a small horse)!

Any updates on Kakalena or Tana?

Re: Kakalena... A few days ago she let me know that hospice had to bring her a new O2 concentrator that goes up to 10 Liters Per Minute and that she requires that high oxygen most of the time. A couple of weekends ago her DS and DDIL took her to a Casino which she enjoyed very much but it took her 3 days to recover from. I can't give any other updates because Kakalena seldom has the energy to respond to my text messages; it seems that talking on the phone is not an option.

I am the family historian for our bunch.  One sister is disdainful of the work I've done claiming she is interested in the living family around her.  That is debatable at times.   But, her kids enjoy the family lore.  I have tried to gather as many stories about ancestors as possible, especially the closer ones like great grandparents.  When my parents died I compiled picture books of them and the great grandkids like to "read" about Great Grandma Betsey and Great Grandpa Larry.  I have been able to get back to the middle 1800s in Ireland, but most of the records before that have been lost to fire.  For the Austrian branch we have gotten back to the 1600s when they were living in an area that was Austria then but is now the Czech Republic.   My great grandmother's brother was living there when WWII broke out.  The last that was heard of him is that he and his family were being marched out of town behind a truck full of other people being forced out.  No one knows what happened to them, but there has been a lot of speculation.

Thanks; how I wish we were on it - I'm sitting in front of my computer monitor enjoying a gin & tonic, watching right now.   We're not scheduled for a BHB until November in Barcelona, but I can live vicariously through those who are going between then and now.

As my mother was getting dementia, I gathered up all the photos I could find, and asked her about the people in them. She could remember long ago, even if she couldn't remember things from a few hours before. I was grateful to learn what I could from her of her family.
