We were on the same cruise.  Once we disembarked and arrived home ( 3 hr drive)….we decided to take a COVID test before seeing family members.  Well, lo and behold, my spouse tested positive for Covid.  We tested him again a few hrs later with a different test brand….tested positive again!  This is all just hrs after disembarkation!  Luckily he can quarantine at home.

I'm wondering IF everyone in the van was masked with N95's?

Theres No way I would stay with that group, if I was Negative.

And 90 mins inside a Hot van is horrible.  Sounds like asking for trouble.

Makes me rethink upcoming cruises.

Same here .

I am rethinking when I will cruise next after hearing these first hand experiences now.

No, everyone was not wearing N95 masks, nor was anyone asked to.  And I did ask them to turn up the AC after others in the back of the van began complaining.

So we did eventually get relief after about 60 minutes or so.  And I had very little control over the situation as I was just following the directions of the staff.  While I know our situation was handled badly, it sounds like others have commented that their quarantine was handled quite well.  I'm not sure where the breakdown occurred.

The other thing that was not pleasant, was the 16 hours we spent in the isolation cabin.  Meals are served in cardboard disposable containers with wood utensils.

The AC fan had been disabled in the low position.  Probably to limit the air transfer between isolation cabins in the "Hot Zone."  It was so hot in the cabin that we slept with the balcony door wide open.

Lucky for us, we were only onboard for one night after testing positive.  I cannot imagine spending 5 or more days there!

We are re-thinking things as well. We have our next cruise in 6 weeks. If we think we have COVID our plan is to self-test. If positive, we will self-quarantine in our cabin until we get back to LA. We have a very large balcony on our next cruise so we will hang out there and enjoy the sun. We will wear N95 masks to disembark, cancel our flight home, book a rental car and drive back to Northern CA.

I expect there will be an increase in cases on the ships now that the masks are off. I’m so disappointed in how Princess treated those who did the right thing by reporting cases to the medical department. This treatment is shameful.

I understand your point of view, am wondering about cabin steward, crew who deliver your food will accept you not reporting positive test?
surely they will alert Medical if they suspect this

that is more concerning to me that there are others who are positive going on with their cruise, and not regarding the fact they are spreading the virus.
last summer & fall cruising looked like it was being well managed, not so now. I have heard several stories like this one in past 2 months

Another important point is anyone at risk for serious illness from COVID should receive treatment ideally within five days, and definitely within ten days of symptoms and a positive COVID test. The CDC and our public health department recommends treatment even if symptoms are mild - you should not wait until symptoms are bad, since that might be too late. People at risk are those over the age of 65 regardless of health status, and then anyone with diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease. If you aren't sure how to get the treatment, or your physician says wait to see how you are doing, contact your public health department. Here in San Diego some of the physicians have been telling those with mild symptoms just to stay home, when the recommendation should be to get treatment so you don't get sicker.

I am not posting this information to create any kind of debate on treatment or no treatment. I'm posting this information to help those who may not be aware that safe and effective treatment is available for people who are COVID positive and have mild to moderate symptoms.

I am sorry you have run into such issues, and that your husband caught COVID at all. It seems that the Ruby Princess has now opened the floodgates, as the buffet is self serve after turnaround day and, regardless of posted signs, very few guests are wearing masks in the Princess Theater. Since we know that COVID already had a hold on the ship, I suspect things will not improve anytime soon. Stay safe.

I saw that as well.  Sounds like smoking in the casino is now also allowed.  I'm pretty sure there's going to be more reports in the near future.

They recommended the Embassy Suites, but did not book my stay.  That was done by me.  And I was never offered flight change assistance, I made those arrangements on my own.

SO final answer?

Did you have to pay for hotel, then get reimbursed? We have Princess Platinum and plan on doing self test prior to return to YVR. If we are going to test positive, I want it to be onboard just for insurance and coverage. We will be departing YVR on a 3:00 flt so we'll have our test as well as any test Princess gives.

What a fiasco. It's unconscionable how poorly this was handled. So... Is your insurance paying for the hotel, meals, etc? or are you just "on the hook" for the expense? Did your cruise end in the US or are you stuck in Canada? (This is our fear. Our upcoming cruise starts and ends in Vancouver. A 14 day hotel stay in the US would be expensive. A 14 day stay in a hotel in Canada would be much more expensive.)

Hopefully things will work out better for you than they have so far. It sounds like Princess really dropped the ball in your case.

Why would a stay in Canada be more expensive? I thought prices were pretty comparable between the two countries.

Remind us, is Orange one step away from Red?

Or is it Yellow thats closest to Red?

They changed the coding so that orange is now worse than yellow.  Makes more sense now.

Yes, I'm paying out of pocket and will file for reimbursement.  But as previously stated, I do NOT have Princess insurance.  I'm not sure how Princess is handling hotel quarantine cost on their plan.

Thanks, when I looked at the chart, it had changed.

Seeing Orange is NOT a good look.

IF we get on Ruby in April, we will be stocked with N95's, KN95's and Wearing them.

Those only go so far when you're seated 2 feet away from the next table in the MDR.  That's no exaggeration.  And the whole dining room is unmasked, and dinner takes 1.5 hours.  This picture is from the day I went to tea.  Look at the distance between tables.
