Live 7N Discovery Princess Picture Review April 10, 2022

I gave up the fight on posting pictures.  I will post all my pictures and finish my review when I return home on Sunday.  I tried to transfer pictures from my iPhone to tablet using my hotspot in Mexico but 3G isn’t as fast as 5G.  How did we survive on 3G?? 😂

I’m still willing to find answers to any questions.

My only compliant so far is that the walls and floors are super thin.  I can hear the conversation in my neighbors stateroom.  I’m on deck 12 and there are kids in the cabin above me,  I’m two jumps off the bed from going to GS to ask if someone can politely ask the parents to be considerate of others and not let their children jump off the bed and run in the room? Where are they even running too in a ship cabin?  Kids running down the hall and people letting their doors slam are bad enough.

I officially joined I rather not sail with kids group.  I was a hold out until this cruise.

The view from this room is limited by the overhang. Every night through midnight or later there is a lot of noise from the deck above. It’s like people jumping up and down. I have no idea what they can possibly be doing up there.

the sanctuary is delightful and worth every penny. The cabana is $220 a day 8 am to 5 pm and $140 for a half day- either 8-12 or 1-5.  This is for 2 people. Extra people are $40 each full or $20 each half day additional.  You get a fridge of soft drinks and waters.  The picture shows a full day supply. They will swap out for your preferences. Half days get half as much. You get your choice of a bottle of red wine, or white or 375ml bottle of spirits per session. So full day gets 2. You get fresh fruit as well. The service us exceptional.

Thanks, would a cabana be worth it on an Alaska cruise next month?

thanks for posting!

It would definitely depend on the weather. On our Alaska cruise, it was so cold during the glacier transit we cancelled the Sanctuary reservation. They do provide things to keep you warm, but it was way to cold for us. We knew we'd be miserable.

Plus, some have posted that the view from the Sanctuary isn't that great.

I used the sanctuary cabana in Alaska on the island Princess . I thought it was worth it. But on this ship the sanctuary is entirely glass walled in.  No open area and for glaciers you want that unobstructed view.

I can’t get DMW to load on my phone or iPad. Our reservation existed on the first night.  We haven’t gone back to MDR since due to lack of social distancing. We eat from the sanctuary menu, have food delivered to the sanctuary, they serve afternoon tea everyday even port days in the sanctuary, we eat in Gigis at off times (for ex 2 pm on port day we had the place pretty much to ourselves), we ate at the Gastro pub at 7 last night and again had no one seated anywhere near us.  Eileen and sticks were playing the piazza so we had great live music while dining. With a little planning we’ve been able to completely avoid crowds and lines.
I went to the buffet this morning at 6:30am, there a few people at most station areas but no lines. Everything was self serve……everything……it was gross. I brought back some food and am watching sailin to Mazatlan while eating breakfast on my balcony. After washing my hands lol.

I love the gelato place on this ship.  Between 4 and 5 we have found it to be empty.

Thanks havedogwilltravel for the great photos. I rotated some of them. Many having difficulty onboard with posting “ right side” up photos, I also know it is sometimes difficult and  a busy time when onboard. I have done a few Live Froms.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

it's good to see Richard onboard. Last time we played a round of golf he wasn't certain if his assignment. Maybe he didn't want to tell me cause I was ten strokes in the lead, looser buy's dinner and drinks 😆

Cruisinthrough-

sorry to hear that the noise from the cabin above  is an issue on a new ship. I usually try to make sure we book cabins with cabins above ( which is what you did) & not public areas. Disappointing. I would ask security to check out the noise for you.

Our December cruise aboard the HAL Koningsdam rates as one of our favorites due to it being one of the sailings with both a passenger count limit and an age limit(this was before children's vaccines were available).

With ship 1/4 full and no kids, it was blissful..

I hope you'll speak to someone at the purser's desk about the cabin above, you paid way too much to have to endure inconsiderate behavior. The blue light is bad enough

Havedogwilltravel-

I assume your noise & blue lights are from the skywalk ?

We have figured out that our bed is below the stairs from skywalk to lido deck. There is nothing to be done about it. I made a rookie mistake. How embarrassing.

This is my 8th sailing since July 2021. First time on a full ship (was under 50% many times) first sailing with kids back. It makes me appreciate the early restart.

I had the same problem which a quick visit to the Ocean Navigators corrected in addition to the problem of not seeing onboard activities. The cabin TV always allowed me to view DMW to check or to make reservations.

Thanks for this thread. I hope to be aboard starting Sunday.

It appears that Discovery's CDC status went from yellow to orange a couple days ago, meaning reported cases of COVID-19 have increased enough to meet the threshold for CDC investigation. The CDC says it has started an investigation and the ship remains under observation, as of this morning.

Do you have any info re: Covid aboard?

Sorry I do not. I know every ship has it though!  I posted on the strategy to stay safe thread

Question, does anyone know if its wise/should you make reservations for any of the Shows?

There aren’t any reservations on Princess. If you go thirty minutes early most nights you can find great seats. For the Rock Opera, 50 minutes early.

So the "Who's Going / Bookmark" thing on the Medallion app is another useless feature then...
