I'm sorry I missed seeing your post while I was composing mine.  I just went back to catch up with everyone.

I'm sorry to hear about Camilla's Grandpa being in the hospital with his Covid.  Great to know the rest of them are doing okay.  My DD is just over Covid and is feeling very well, and seems to have plenty of energy which is a good thing.  Her DH is a long distance bike rider and even though he is positive right now he has gone out on easy rides.  I was interested to hear that your DB and DS both had leg pain after Covid, too.  Terri @Cruzin Terrisaid the same thing.  I pray that this is short lived and my leg gets back to normal like theirs did.  And that my DSIL doesn't have this side effect since he such a devoted bike rider and he would hate not being able to do that.

We're planning a trip to see DD in Cincinnati and our DS in Ann Arbor soon.  I think we've all agreed on the dates.  I've never seen so many activities as those two families have on their calendar.  Then of course I had to mess everything up with my dental cleaning and hair appointment on my own calendar.  Can't change the dental cleaning because it takes forever to get back in the schedule!  I'd better get those compression socks fast since those drives are long and that car doesn't stop until it needs fuel!  Bad for legs!

In 1992 I had an unsightly Varicose vein which was painful.

My doctor at the time tried to put me off an op and prescribed me Compression stockings with suspenders to hold them up.

REALLY. I said No Thanks 😊

I had an op a few months later and that sorted the problem.

The vein stretched from the top of my leg to my ankle and it was stripped out.

Fortunately it was the one and only varicose vein I have had to date.

I heard that these veins could be deep and not show so I pray this is not your problem Sandi.

Take care.

Graham.

@MISTER 67 Thanks for your service in Vietnam.

@kazu Your garden and flowers around deck are beautiful. Lot of work and love there.

@Crazy For CatsHappy Anniversary!🍾💐

We had a nice church service and meaningful sermon.

Took a Covid test yesterday as my chronic sinusitis is acting up. Test was negative but will try and get a walk in appointment with my physician in morning and hopefully get some treatment started before our departure Thursday. Poor timing!😡
Little warm but think we will put the top down on the Spyder and go for a ride to get the battery charged up before being idle. Fortunately, we have great neighbors who are wonderful care takers of our house, and cars when we are gone. They even monitor our sprinkler service so we are not wasting water when receiving lot’s of rain. We in return tend to their cats when they are away.

Here’s wishing all of you a great Sunday and safe, productive, healthy new week.

@flowery posted on the Covid/Rotterdam thread....an essential need to pack a pulse oximeter...

If diagnosed or having possible covid symptoms....monitoring your oxygen level could become crucial...

Just now...I added my pulse oximeter to my Hawaii....UK....and cruise travel lists...

Oximeter's are inexpensive and easy to use....amazon has several kinds....this is one....

We took one on our cruise and used it to check our oxygen levels while positive and in quarantine.  I was probably about 96 and DH 97, so no problems really with a lack of oxygen.  Thankfully!

Good morning all!

It will be another cool day here today, only in the mid-60's F and slightly overcast.  Good weather for planting, and I've been doing some of that this week.  After removing those Boxwood shrubs, I decided to get some ground cover for that spot.

Unfortunately I won't be having ice cream today, I have my A1C diabetic blood test in the morning. 😞  Maybe after the test!  Wrong way Corrigan is my day.  I have no sense of direction and get lost constantly.  Although I agree with others who think he meant to go to Ireland all along.  I have no problem with emojis, and usually they add clarification to what someone is saying in the written word.

Will pass on the drink (not a fan of gingerbread), love fried chicken but like the ice cream, can't have it today because of the carbs. I need to think of a low carb dinner for tonight.  The wine sounds great.  Have never been to Japan.  The quote is a very good one.

DH and I both downloaded ArriveCan today in preparation for our October cruise out of Quebec City.  As for testing requirements, a lot can change between now and then, so will just wait and see what is required then!  We also need to get new Air Tags.

@1ANGELCATWow about your DB's car and how horrible!

@Vict0riannenjoy your cruise on my favorite ship with my favorite Captain!  Rich Fielder (who we met last fall on the Eurodam) is also on the cruise (and has been for a long time) and is doing FB updates.

@Crazy For CatsHappy 18th Anniversary!

@smitty34877I'm so sorry your nephew in-law is in the hospital with Covid.  Prayers for a full recovery.

Wrong Way Corrigan Day commemorates the day in 1938 when Douglas Corrigan made a transatlantic flight. He had recently purchased a 1929 Curtiss Robin plane and rebuilt and modified it. In July of 1938, he flew it from California to New York. He then applied for permission to make a transatlantic flight but was denied. On July 17, 1938, he flew out of Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, with the supposed intention of flying back to California. He instead started heading east and flew all the way to Dublin, Ireland. As he disembarked from the plane he said, "Just got in from New York. Where am I?" He claimed his flight had been an accident and he had gotten lost after his compass failed to work.

Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Rich.

Ice cream - yum - I can celebrate that.  Maritime Sea Salt Caramel in the freezer 😉 I get turned around all the time and go the wrong way but not as successful as D. Corrigan 😉.  I am probably one of those that use too many emoji’s at times so I guess by not changing today I will be celebrating World Emoji day.

I love that quote by Helen Keller.  @0106great suggestion on fried chicken, thanks.  I’m with you on the Panko crumbs 😉

@erewhonI attempted to measure that ridiculously tall monkshood this morning.  It is more than 10’ high!  It has never been more than 1/2 way the height of the pergola before.  It’s past the roof now 😬

nice to hear from Ann @Vict0riann - so glad Pat had his bag and to hear Czaba is on board 👍 Nice to hear of staff appearances at the Meet and Greet and a Cellar Master dinner - woo hoo!  Do let us know if it happens please and your impressions.  If it is held in the Canaletto that is a different location for sure.  Ann, I know you will appreciate this one 😉

My thoughts and prayers are with @rafinmd & @StLouisCruisersas they grieve.

Well, I got a surprise yesterday.  I was watering my plants and one of my hanging baskets looked very sad.  It made no sense since it had been bottled (water with bottles so they drip) and was fine before.  When I put the hose on it and looked in, it appeared that the roots were exposed in the earth.  WTH?  Took a bit out and uh oh.

Yes, my Mexican birds are at it again.  I hope the watering didn’t upset things.  I’m wondering if the nest is by one of their offspring as it’s not a usual location.  They normally nest in a much bigger pot thick with plants like the Mexican planter here on the bench.

Or in a high hanging basket out front like these.

Instead, the nest is in a low hanging basket which is only 14”.

The birds are really tiny and so are their nests.  I always put my fingers in the hanging baskets now before bottling them to make sure there are no babies moving around 😉

What will be will be I guess.

Prayers for everyone on the Care list & for those that need them and a 🥂 to those on the Celebratory / Shout Out list.  Have a great Sunday everyone !!!!!

Stay safe and please don’t forget your 😷 when / where needed.

@kazu.

I always find your meme's very funny plus your flowers and your garden are beautiful so I had to post  my appreciation for your nice photos.

Sending you Paulines x and my love and good wishes.

Take care.

Can"t celebrate National Ice Cream Day 😪.  Didn't scoop neatly into a bowl, would just spoon it right out of the carton.  Used to clean a pint in one sitting just watching a TV show. Had to join Ice Cream Anonymous and I've been clean and sober for 7 years now.  And able to maintain my target weight -- even on a dam ship.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I will have ice cream today in celebration of National Ice Cream Day!  I've heard of wrong way Corrigan but don't know much. Emojis are ok, if not overused. Good quote.

I like the meal (maybe in air fryer). My mother was from the South and made great fried chicken; unfortunately I didn't pay attention as a kid, and have never made it myself. Pass on the drink and wine.

I haven't been to Shimizu, or Japan. Thanks for the pictures.

I was awakened at 6:10 by a loud clap of thunder. We only got about 1/4" of rain overnight; better than nothing, but not enough. I made some small waffles this AM, and will freeze the extra for future easy use. I also fed my sourdough starter and will make a loaf of bread later.

@grapau27 Thanks for Father David's sermon today. Good news about Sarah!

@0106 Great recipes!

@Cruzin Terri Safe travels and have a great time!

@dfish I hope you're having a blast!

@1ANGELCAT Awful about your DB's car being totaled.

@Vict0riann Good to hear Pat's bag was found and you are onboard. Enjoy!

@Crazy For Cats Happy Anniversary!

@kazu Awww, on the bird's nest. Your flowers are all beautiful.

@smitty34877 Sorry to hear your niece's DH had to be hospitalized and prayers for him; good that Camilla and her parents are feeling better.

@StLouisCruisers I'm glad your leg was a little better last night. Nice to hear that many were there for Buddy's funeral; I'm sure the family was appreciative.

@aliaschief I hope your sinus issue settles down soon.

@bennybear Thanks for the great Shimizu pictures.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

I know that I am totally out of touch with many societal trends, and I am equally out of touch with current events in Canada.  Can somebody explain this to me?

Toronto’s Pearson airport  and Air Canada has been one of the worst if not the worst in the world recently with cancellations, lost luggage and stranded passengers.
then Rogers, one of our three main telecoms went down for over a day, so people had no cellular service including emergency coverage as well.

You are so right about Covid and I'm sure you will agree with me that it is fantastic news that our Sarah has tested negative today.

Unlike a lot of people who don't legally have to isolate in the UK Sarah did the right thing and stayed at home until she was negative.

This is her second covid infection in  around 4 months plus she has to deal with epileptic seizures as well.

Take care.

Graham.

@Cruising-along Remember that the A1C test covers the last three months of your blood sugars, not just todays. If you have been doing well with eating right, and exercising, for 3 months, but celebrated today, then it wouldn't be a problem.

I am a bad patient, barely exercise, sit on my butt at work every day, 6 out of 7 days, and eat dessert.  (not all day ,I don't eat dessert all day).  This week, THAT is going to change, no ifs, not buts no excuses. My diabetes scanner usually goes off within an hour after I eat things like sugar, bread pasta or rice.  Today it went off two hours after I ate, and I was in stress mode.  House to clean, etc, couldn't find the phone, and that is what really takes my blood sugar up.  Stress!  I am meditating at night before I go to sleep, and I have found a youtube friendly not hard 5 minute yoga stretch that I started this week.  Didn't' do it this morning, and I actually can tell a difference.  Good luck on the A1C test tomorrow, unfortunately it is one test I get high scores on.

@XBGuy the Toronto airport (Pearson) is a place of missed flights and baggage chaos  right now.   Rogers Telecommunications  advertises itself as Canada's best Telecommunications company with a 5G network...  Rogers entire network went down and messed up internet and banking and phones and stores and banks had to close because of it.  People that use Rogers couldn't use their phones or internet.  It was a huge mess for a few days.  Now the company is promising to credit everyone for 5 days of lost service.  Worse chaos than the Toronto airport.

Oh, I know....have been diabetic for 15 years and unfortunately know the drill.  No, it's that darn fasting glucose number that goes on my record (I know it's the A1C that really counts) but I just hate seeing a high number (and it would be if I had ice cream today). 😞

That's what makes mine go up too, bread, pasta and rice.  Especially pasta. Stress also makes it go up. Just driving to the clinic mine goes up from what I tested at home minutes before.

My concern is that for some reason my fasting numbers have been higher than a few months ago, even though I'm doing everything right (most of the time).  Treadmill, desserts only on special occasions.  Darn family history. 😉  Thank you for the good luck wishes!

Just curious, has anyone wondered what things are like on the Volendam?  How and where are meals served.  Have public rooms been converted to bunk space.  What do they have to occupy their time?  Also wonder how much they will need to do to get the ship back ready for service.

Good afternoon from a cloudy central Texas, but I don't think we'll get any rain.  At least, there is a breeze and the humidity is 25% with a dew point of 65F but it is 90F right now.  I made the mistake of looking at the future forecast and tomorrow and Tuesday, it will be 108F.  We're staying in the house as much as possible, but will have to go our tomorrow and Tuesday.

I decided that tonight's dinner will be air fried chicken with the leftover mash potatoes and gravy and Watergate salad, plus the lemon blueberry cake.  I hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Not much happening here.  I've been spending some time on Ancestry.com and finding more ancestors.  A few I have traced back to the mid to late 1500s in England and Scotland.  The Church of England kept a lot better records than those in the colonies. I also found some German and Prussian ancestors.  It's an interesting way to spend a hot afternoon.

@aliaschief  I hope you can get help for your chronic sinusitis before you leave Thursday.  Glad the test was negative.

@Rowsby  DH has a couple of oximeter's, and I'm pretty sure one was with us on the Koningsdam this year, but fortunately not needed.  It is good advice for anyone traveling at this time.

@bennybear  Thank you for the wonderful pictures from Japan.  I hope sometime we are there when it is that clear, and we can see Fuji San.

@AV8rix  I could never join Ice Cream Anonymous, so I guess I'll just have to find another way to get to and keep my target weight.  Congratulations on being sober for 7 years.  😉

@grapau27  As I said earlier, I'm glad Sarah tested negative today.  I wish more people would follow her example, but too many are not taking Covid seriously, even with the new variants.  I hope Sarah can control her seizures.

@Cruising-along  Carolyn, good luck on your A1C test tomorrow.  I hope your numbers are within the acceptable range.

@rafinmd  Those are all good questions about the Volendam.  I also wonder how many refugees are on board, and if some are finding permanent places to live and new refugees are coming on board.  Hope fully, they will be served in the MDR and the Lido, but I wonder about the Pinnacle.

Roy it looks like business as usual:

The government originally chartered the ship through the end of JUN 2022 but has asked to extend for an additional 10 weeks. Under the agreement, Holland America Line is providing hot meals, private stateroom accommodations, housekeeping services, laundry, use of public spaces, fitness facilities, internet access and other necessities. Volendam is staffed with approximately 650 crew members.

You are most welcome.  Japan is simply amazing,  I hope you can go one day.

 Of course I’m glad for your news, and wish everyone would do the right thing, it would sure help with the spread.    Our son did the same thing and stayed home until he tested negative.   As there are so many dealing with this nasty disease and I do not wish to miss anyone  I thought it best to refrain from naming individuals as I don’t wish to hurt  anyone’s feelings if I accidentally omit someone.   I truly hope that this is in our rear view mirror sooner than later, but alas I’m not hopeful.

all the best.

Lenda

I hope you get clear skies too!  We were very blessed and even saw Fuji San at sunset on our flight the first day.

I can't locate the article that mentioned she will extend the time for refugees til mid Sept.
