Did you know that the waterfall Jim could see out of their cabin is hot water?
We had a Saga tour out of Akureyri on our Mai cruise and the guide told us that the hot spring causes a lot of delays when they built the tunnel.

I find it extremly fascinating that Iceland has so much natural green energy that they can waste an entire hot waterfall into the sea

That I don’t know.    It is such a small falls, I don’t think it even has a name.

We have seen a lot of hot water pipes and used to heat homes.  They said the swimming pools are outside because it is easier to cool the water.

Oh, those chocolates!  I love bringing them home, and having one in the afternoon, as it makes me think I'm on a ship.

Remember when they had the flavored chocolates, and the various colored wrappers?  Refer to my "photo" - the X is made up of all of the chocolates from one of our multi-back2backs some years back.  We never eat them onboard, always bring them home and I thought, hmmmm, these would make an interesting photo!

I bring them home as well.  First trip after the pandemic after pulling the cases from the attic (hot) and started packing I wondered what all the powder was.  I guess I forgot one in the suitcase and it was just chocolate dust.  What a pain to clean out.    Note to self -- Eat all the chocolates!

Can't wait to see your pictures of Godafoss Falls. Enjoy your day!

We were luck our driver got us to the falls before the tour busses arrived.

The arrived just as we left.

Arrived on schedule and the ship has been cleared.

Weather is the normal coastal morning layer and hoping for a nice day.    The storm has passed by this area of the country.

Luckily we had a smooth sailing around the island.

Our friend @ohiojohn who is on Viking Mars has also arrived.

We have one more Iceland port after this one, then on to the Faroe Islands, finishing with 4 stops in Norway.  As Jim mentioned,  he was hoping for a nice day.   The sun came out with blue skies.

That waterfall is (unexpected) hot water that flows from Vaðlaheiði tunnel that was constructed through the mountain to Mývatn lake a few years ago.  https://icelandmag.is/article/water-pouring-both-sides-vadlaheidi-tunnel-north-iceland

8/20/2022 -  1st Chic Night

We had our first Chic night.    DeJa Vu

The passenger demographics have changed from our first cruise.   Just by the accents I would say we have a much higher count of Europeans and especially German Guests.

Passengers seemed to be dressed to a higher standard than the last cruise.   Saw a number of women in beautiful Coctail Dresses and many men with at least a jacket and a number tux's.  Makes for a more celebratory feeling.

The same Day 2 menu as last cruise

Jim_lain, did you hear stories while in Iceland about the "hidden people" and the gift giving at Christmas?  These stories were told to us on one of our tours and I had to purchase at the airport  the books entitled The Legend of the Icelandic Yule Lads and The Little Book of Hidden People as reminders of our visit.  We stopped in Iceland for 4 days on our way to a cruise in Europe(forget which one).  It was expensive to drink and eat but such an interesting place.  We were impressed that in order for children to graduate they must study Icelandic, English and Danish or another Scandinavian language.  Impressive.

Am enjoying reading about your cruise(s).

First stop Godafoss waterfall. Our driver parked on the East side of falls and said he would meet us at the gift shop.

It was a little drizzly when we arrived but the sun broke through and the layers started coming off.

Now to get an even better view I climbed down to the base.  Iain said. “Your on your own, I hope your insurance is paid up.”
