My favorite part of the Daily are the pictures of the ports.  To all who contribute them, Happy National Photography Day!

I played with the next door neighbor’s dogs this morning and told the story of Little Shadow to my neighbor.  I could tell she was getting upset so I quickly rushed to the end and told her Little Shadow had been found.  Wonderful news @kazu!  Here are her dogs.

I went back through my pictures of Rijeka and found some more to share.  Again, they are a combination between our 2017 Prinsendam visit and the 2019 Veendam visit.

From the pier you can take a shuttle or a taxi and both drop you off at the square across from the small boat harbor.  When it is sunny, as in 2017, there are many vendors and people out and about.  When it's raining as it was in 2019, the pickings are slim.  Same square, just a different view.

The weather also makes a difference in the number of people.

In 2017, we wanted to see the torpedo museum after the very good port lecturer talked about it.  We asked for directions and headed up this steep street.

DSC01336.thumb.JPG.2ec4474390db834ade1746ccd424bab5.JPG

It turns out they sent us to the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Coast, which did not have anything to do with torpedoes.

The grounds in front of the museum.

DSC01347.thumb.JPG.5868c485d17342d2e8f0ec1bb2694239.JPG

A couple of streets as we headed back down the hill.  BTW, the torpedo museum is in a warehouse on the water across from the train and bus station.

DSC01350.thumb.JPG.d9a9c09c6a7cd57e3f895911ff6a839a.JPG

We passed Our Lady of Lourdes church.

And interesting sculpture in the plaza behind the clock towner.

I'm repeating this picture of the Cathedral of St. Vid since I found one of the interior.

Walking down some residential streets we saw this building.

DSC06544.thumb.JPG.891457a933c86e97ec8a17d74c7b70ba.JPG

We also passed the Church of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary and the bell tower.

DSC06545.thumb.JPG.5a861b8ca34fef281ddd4649abdc4337.JPG

HAL offered a tour to Trieste in Italy which we booked.  However, before we got to Rijeka, we received a notice that the tour operator was cancelling the tour.  It seems the wait times crossing the border in both directions were too long, and the operator couldn't guarantee we'd be back at the ship in time.

Good morning everyone!  I’ve been away from the Daily for a few days. Two reasons, one reason is that we’ve been busy having fun in Las Vegas, second reason is that I’ve had an eye infection that has made it hard to read. So, good news and okay news, my eye is better and we leave Las Vegas today, however, our flight has been delayed two hours. Since we had extra time we are having brunch at our favorite bistro, Bouchon.

And from a few nights ago the beautiful fountain at the Bellagio:

I’ll catch up with the Daily soon!  I hope everyone is well. Have a great day!!

I have been reading the reports of boosters and aftermath,  and hoping that I won't suffer too much from the side effects.  Each time has gotten worse.   I had planned to get my booster in this last week, but was cautioned not to do so!  I have a mammogram scheduled for next Wednesday, so I will get the booster after that.

Smart to wait until after your mammogram.

I read in the news last night that they expect the new booster (aimed at this variant) to be available to everyone ages 12 and up in early-mid September so we're waiting and will get that one. Just in time before our October cruise.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I will salute aviation, the versatile potato (love them) and humanitarians (which we need more of). The last time I was at the store, no russets - the sign said they couldn't source any quality ones.

Very true quote. I'll pass on the meal (fish), drink and wine.

I haven't been to Rijeka or anywhere in Croatia. Thanks for the pictures @Quartzsite Cruiser@Cruising-along

We're warming up more today and getting more humid. I may do a little in the yard later. I've been busy working on my ebay stuff this morning. So far I've heard of 6 out of 58 with Covid since the reunion.

@kazu Yay, Shadow was found! Bless Liz for her perseverance and caring. I hope the foster family will now keep Shadow safe and happy.

@1ANGELCAT I'm sure Fluff isn't liking the cone. Hopefully she will heal quickly.

@rafinmd Thanks for your devotion to making our lists.

@Cruzin Terri Sorry the booster knocked you out; hopefully you're better tomorrow. I hope your neighbor recovers soon; so sad that her husband can't understand why she has to stay away from him.

@StLouisCruisers What a good idea DD had getting that quilt made for Morgan.

@aliaschief Thanks for the pictures of the beautiful scenery.

@durangoscots Hoping for a leak free roof soon. And ugh on the tile job; it's so hard to get quality work done nowadays.

@Norseh2o I hope your DM finds a place she is happy with that can assist her. Safe travels.

@Sharon in AZ I'm glad your eye infection is better. Safe travels home from Vegas.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for the Celebration List.

Stay safe all. We're back up to high transmission here, with masks recommended indoors (I still do).

Does someone have cruising on their mind?

@kazu Jacqui, I think the whole Daily thread is doing the happy dance with you.

@StLouisCruisers I made a similar quilt for my niece out of the t-shirts from all the school plays and dance recitals she was in.

I just made an appointment to get my first shingles vaccine at 3pm.  I've been putting it off, but got to thinking that with everything that's been going on with DH, it wouldn't be really bad if I came down with shingles.

Yesterday we visited Geriranger, Norway and it’s magnificent fjords and mountains! Absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We took in all the iconic vistas on a private tour of just me, Sue and her identical twin Barb.

No service in the fjords so trying to post a day late. Today we were in Bergen and had another private tour but it was a rainy day and didn’t take many photos but it was still beautiful. Tomorrow is a sea day then Rotterdam where Sue and I will stay on for another week but Barb will be flying home as she has another cruise to Alaska coming up soon.

Life is good!

Back again after having read through all posts so far. I am ready to celebrate Shadow's return. I am glad she did not go far after her escape and I am sure she is happy to be in where it is warm and dry.

I can celebrate all the days although like others I have to curb my intake of carbs so I avoid potatoes which I really love. Oh well. I generally like catfish if it is well prepared. When I was doing some research in New Mexico there was a place near Carlsbad that had a Friday night Catfish Fry that was really good. My archaeology crew and I dined out there regularly. Don't know that I have had catfish since.

Cool here this morning and we have more rain coming (maybe) over the weekend. Our main contractor and the roofing company spent yesterday on the roof at the shelter and are working through the leak problems. Meanwhile I was working inside with the man who installed tiles behind the dog wash area and did a really crappy job. We have removed his charges for that from his invoice and he is to rip out everything and redo. I am not a happy camper. Hope the rains hold off for maybe another day or two.

(Had to stop for the roofers) Anyway... off the the shelter wars. @kazugive Shadow a pat and hug for me.

Susan

Susan, how horrible after all the work to still have roof leaks and a bad tile job.  I hope they can finally get the leaks stopped.  And I hope the tile guy does a better job the Next time.

Good morning all!

And what a morning with the great news about Shadow being found!!  Jacqui @kazuI join everyone else in a huge hurrah!  What good news. 🙂

All good days.  I admire all pilots who get me safely where I need to go even though I do detest flying.  I don't think I've ever had cat fish, but would try it. I can take or leave potatoes, and try to limit them because of the carbs.  @RedneckBobwe still have Mr. Potato Head here for the grandsons and we all say he's a male -- well at least when he's wearing his mustache. 😉  The drink sounds good, and NZ Sauvignon Blancs are always my wine of choice although I've never seen this one.

I woke up to showers this morning -- so funny, we must have had the cloud coming over us from the west as I was looking out the back door.  It was drizzling in the back yard, but not in the front yard.  A few minutes later it was drizzling both in front and back. We can use the moisture, it's gotten pretty dry.  I hope to get more Gravenstein apples today, but will have to call the market in Lynden to see if they have enough.  It's an hour+ each way so I want to be sure.  But we love the sauce and pies from Gravensteins,  so worth it and it's a nice drive.

Sandi @StLouisCruiserswhat a beautiful quilt!  I'm sure your DGD will always treasure it.

We were in Rijeka last year and took a tour to the resort town of Opatija.  It was a wonderful day and we enjoyed it a lot.  First we walked along the waterfront promenade for an hour, then we were wined and dined at lunch.  We had an appetizer similar to Bruschetta, lunch was potatoes and pork roast (delicious), a dessert of an apple pastry (yum!!) and the wine flowed freely.  We then had free time to wander the town and/or shop, we did both.

This statue is called Maiden with a Seagull.  Although when we passed by she had 2.  The one in her hand is part of the statue.

Isadora Duncan was good friends of the owners of this hotel.  They had this statue made of her.

It was October and some storefronts were decorated for Halloween.

Thanks for the good reading on a Friday morning. We are traveling to AZ to meet with mother, brother & sisters as Mom has decided that at 102 years, she needs a bit more care. It’s always tough to move, especially from a small, wonderful, very independent place to a new place. We are feeling positive as AZ & particularly the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix & suburbs) offers many opportunities. Hope for the best! August in the Valley = 🥵🌇🌵

Prayers for those in need, thanks for Shadow’s return, hope for all covid cases to be mild.

I hope you find the perfect place for you DM.  It's a wise person who knows and admits when they need more help.

Debbie, how did you guess?  Was it all the cruise pictures or the misspelling?  🤣  As I've said, proofreading is not my strong point.  I tend to see what I meant to type, not what I typed.  And like today, I clicked on the wrong word when trying to correct it.

Happy dancing feet news that Liz found Little Shadow! Liz deserves a medal. Jacqui needs sleep!

Boutiques were fun this morning. I bought some things for Christmas gifts and a baby quilt for my nieces upcoming baby due in Nov. Afterwards we dropped a friend off and picked Allen up and Elvis took us to lunch. Within 5 minutes of pulling the GC in the garage the sky opened up and we had a very nice rain.

Happy Aviation day. My sweet husband was a helicopter pilot over 30 years. Cobra's and Apache's.

image.png.8cdccef667bf98d5215b4ea7fa2f8caa.png

I like all types of potatoes but lately they aren't easy to find. My girlfriend told me about a creamy potato salad that sounds pretty good. I asked for the recipe. There's a Mr. Potato Head cartoon that's really funny but I'd be kicked off CC if I shared it..

Going to grab a glass of wine and make a celebration toast to Jacqui's never giving up hope in finding Little Shadow. God bless!

Is it flying in general you dislike, or just commercial flight?

I enjoy flying in small planes, but would rather drive a car from coast to coast than fly commercially if I have the time.

Really commercial aviation but I have only rarely been in small planes.

Good afternoon, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'm late to the party because the power went out around 5:30 this morning and didn't come on until after we had left the house to run some errands. I used to love flying anywhere, now it's just the means to an end.  Did somebody say potatoes?  I was raised on them - when we had very little else in the house, there was always potatoes and my mom could make them taste so darn good.  I think it was the addition of a little bacon grease when she was mashing them ... nobody worried about cholesterol back then, you worried about your kids going hungry.

There are some great humanitarians around us who never receive recognition.  One of them is the sweet father of our almost daughter, Sophia.  As I mentioned, he's been sending care packages over daily since we tested positive, and today he outdid himself.  Around 9 the doorbell rang and there was a bag with scrambled eggs and vegetables (like a deconstructed omelet).  Then at noon he arrived once more with another bag containing steamed vegetables, Kung Pao chicken and steamed rice.  He told us through google translate that he had an appointment this afternoon and wouldn't be able to make dinner on time for us tonight, so thought he would bring it over early.  What a gem!

Both of us are on the mend - DH's son is fully recuperated, so @rafinmd, you can take him off the care list for sure.  DH and I went out to get some grocery essentials and after about an hour and a half I was done.  Now I'm ready for a nap and will look forward to enjoying a few spoonfuls of that delightful food tonight.

@kazuI'm joining the happy dancers here with you - my heart was overjoyed knowing that Shadow was safely in your care once more.  I do hope the rescue will get their act together so Shadow can't escape again.  Sending love and gratitude to Liz for her tenacity and endurance while looking for Shadow.  She sounds like she's one in a million; hugs going to her.

I'm finished, my energy level has dropped and my eyes are drooping once more.  I'll be back tomorrow - take care everyone, stay healthy and be safe.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Good Afternoon, the doctors visit went well.  My blood pressure was even good, it usually isn’t at the doctors office.

@Quartzsite Cruiser He recommended I get the shingles shots.  He did mention that they tend to make people feel sick right after.  I’ll check with the pharmacy to be certain I would be able to get both doses.  In our area the second shot isn’t always easy to get.

Walking down some residential streets we saw this building.

We also passed the Church of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary and the bell tower.

Thank you for posting your nice selection of photos Lenda.

What wonderful news today about Shadow!  Jacqui, @kazu, that is one smart dog to almost make her way home to you after only a few weeks!  And of course, Liz is to be commended on figuring it all out.  Please tell her she is today's  CC heroine!  I have a feeling it will be difficult for you to let Little Shadow go again.

I had my phone doctor's appointment this morning, didn't speak to my doctor, I think maybe it was his student.  But he was very informative and went over the tests with me and what to do in the future.  I guess it was a little more serious than I realized, but I'm just eating very bland food, and hopefully all will resolve.  We just booked a September 2-week Alaska cruise that I couldn't resist, so I told him I will not be ready for the colonoscopy until after we get back.  First things first!

Pat is Irish, so of course potatoes are his favourite food, I was born in China, so rice is no. 1, but I don't mind a potato now and then - I think it's DD's special potato salad for us tonight, too.  And chicken.

Sorry to hear you had an eye infection Sharon but pleased it is okay now.

Nice photos and I'm happy for you that you had a fantastic time in Las Vegas.

I guess I'll know about the side effects tomorrow or Sunday.  I cancelled my appointment for today and will get the shot tomorrow morning.  A retired nurse told me the second shot was the one that hit her hard.

Yes, DD and I both felt we had been hit by a truck after the second.  Pat had no problem with it.  So you have a one in three chance statistically to be fine!

I was sore a day with the first shingles shot. You have 2 to 6 months to get the second shot. That one knocked me on my butt!

Both Pauline and I have had shingles and I wish we had been able to have had a shingles jab to prevent us having shingles.

I didn’t feel bad after either shingles shot, but boy was my arm sore for about 5 days after each one.  Like someone gave me their best punch over and over.  Small price to pay compared to some of the shingles horror stories I’ve heard about.  Glad my fellow Texans are getting some much needed rain.  Yesterday’s round mostly missed us in north TX, but Sunday and next week look promising! 🤞
