(Uncle) Les - wishing you a speedy return to good health

Recommended Posts

Only very special people could claim dedicated threads, Les.  Thank you, Marion, for creating this one.  Wishing you successful treatment, and many years of good times ahead.  Please let us all know, either yourself or through a kind family member, how you're progressing.  We truly enjoyed meeting and chatting with you, and would love to do it again some day when you feel up to it.

Thanks Linda. I am seeing the GP again on Friday for results of second round of blood tests and Ultrasound results, we go from there I suppose. My daughter insists on accompanying me, I objected but she won, lol.

Two heads are better than one, hearing the results correctly.

Don't want to dwell on this, but GP this morning re blood and Ultra Sound results, not good. CAT scan next Wednesday and visits to Urologist and Renal Specialist being sought.  I have days when I am not too well and others not bad.  But the diagnosis thus far is not looking good.

Thanks again my friends.

Not what we wanted to hear Uncle Les. Take care and we will wait for the next results which might show a clear path of what is ahead. Knowing the treatment options and what to consider will help you decide what options to pursue.

Grateful for the update, Les.  I've been wondering all day how you went.  Specialist treatment and care is exactly what you need.  Rest, take care, and know we're all sending healing wishes💜

Thanks Linda, the puter helps pass the time. I know I post some rubbish on here, sometimes, but I like to think my contributions assist  a few people sometimes.

My cat scan, full body scan on Wednesday is $1050.

I hope I get some back from Medicare, lol.

Wow that is crazy I have had more cats and MRIs than I can count, never paid a cent even when I was a rich barrister, but they were all referrals from specialists that May have been a factor. I am honestly starting to think our health system is in serious trouble.

And Les please keep posting away, I know how much the distraction can help.

Gut, they said if I had a Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card or Pension card they could bill me, nil to pay. But I dont. You know the story.  In last couple of years I have been to a couple of specialists, they sent me for various ultrasounds and cat scans but I was always billed. Rogues.

Didn't I read in the budget, that the income thresholds for the Commonwealth Health Care Card are being lifted quite considerably - 'And more than 44,000 additional Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders will get access to concession rate prescriptions with income limits being raised to $90,000 for singles and $144,000 for couples.' That might help you Les.

Yes it has gone through Parliament but not yet legislated. Yes I will qualify for the CSHCC when it happens, might be Jan 1.

I’d missed that too, wonder if it will help me, or if I’m not old enough yet.

66 years and six months rising to 67 next year. So it is age and income/assets.

That’s the totally unfair bit. You’ve served your country and paid your taxes! Shouldn’t be treated differently because you’ve done the right thing and saved for retirement

Thank you, My superannuation scheme was compulsory from day 1 back in 1967 until I retired in 2003.  Fortnightly deductions from my pay for 36 years. Now at 74 the government gives me zilch apart from no tax payable on my defined benefit State Super Pension because I am self funded, not reliant on government handouts.

The whole system needs an overhaul. I sometimes think in this country you are better off with nothing then the government gives you everything.  In UK, NZ and there is no means test for things like aged pensions, health benefits etc. But here they look at every cent you get or have.
