sweetpea2 Posted December 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2022 When you board with wine bottles in your check in bags do they check and see if the bottles are sealed?
paross4 Posted December 6, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2022 Ours have never been checked. (we carry them on in a backpack) Used to take corked wine, but decided it was simpler to bring screw top bottles. (wine snobs, please don't judge us.... 😉 ) 3

Put the bottles in your carry-on. Do not put any bottles in your checked luggage; otherwise, your luggage will most likely end up in the naughty room for you to open and claim.

I think it goes back many years to the idea that a screw cap was only on "cheap" wine.
cruisegirl1 Posted December 6, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) They inspected the bottles carefully at the Baltimore port. Not sure what they are looking for. Ours were sealed, so no problem. I can't imagine why it would not be sealed. M Edited December 6, 2022 by cruisegirl1

One of my friends used to replace wine with bourbon then recork it and add the foil back , must be a dark bottle. 1

poocher Posted December 6, 2022 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2022 Curious, barring the content replacement referenced above, why would the bottle be unsealed?
ATSEAMYLIFE Posted December 6, 2022 #11 Share Posted December 6, 2022 They checked ours but it was during Spring break out of Galveston.

Maybe some folks are too cheap/poor to buy drinks onboard so they fill wine bottles with the hard stuff to trick the port staff. 1
ARandomTraveler Posted December 7, 2022 #14 Share Posted December 7, 2022 I brought 2 bottles on Symphony during Thanksgiving week in my carry-on wine suitcase and they didn't even open it. I actually had to take it through security twice because I left the ship and came back. They didn't look inside my bag either time. I also had a large bottle of water in there that was leftover from my hotel room, and they didn't seem to care what it was.

alex_drew Posted December 7, 2022 #20 Share Posted December 7, 2022 Always carry on two bottles of wine in my carry-on. Baltimore always makes me open the bag AND they take at least one of the bottles out to check it.
sailor05 Posted December 7, 2022 #21 Share Posted December 7, 2022 I just do it the old fashioned way and bring rum runners. Not because I'm cheap as I get free drinks in the casino + 4 free diamond, but because I like to have a drink in my cabin/balcony without having to walk all the way to a bar and back. I get oj delivered each morning with my coffee to use as a mixer.
LittleJoefromKokomo Posted December 7, 2022 #22 Share Posted December 7, 2022 I have brought both a wine bottle AND a bottle of vodka in the checked in luggage and wasn't called to the naughty room. However bag was not delivered until late at night, I had to ask the cabin attendant for it and he brought it up to me at about 10pm (bottles still inside...). Maybe I was just lucky 🙂
