Both the old app and the new app now show my Shoreside billing with the same credit card I used for on the ship. I never entered that or authorized the use of the card in either app. It seems to have just "assumed" I want to use the card in that manner. I guess it doesn't make much difference as I don't plan to use the Medallion to pay for things on shore anyway but it's annoying that they are just kind of hijacking my card info without me having given consent.

My shoreside billing also shows the same card that I use on the ship, however I honestly don’t think it’s authorized for use unless you tap the card and then tap the “complete” button. At least that’s what I hope. 😁

I haven't read all 850 posts. so apologies if this is a repeat.  I entered my payment method for on board only and checked the box to use the same method for my wife.  She now shows complete for payment method whereas I, of course, don't.

I am holding out until Princess removes shoreside payment as a requirement, along with many of the rest of you.  I am not sure there are any enrolled merchants on our itinerary anyway.

It is because in your wife’s account, she is automatically enrolled to shoreside CC payment.  You need to log in HER account, and manually remove the shoreside enrollment.  That is how I have done with my husband’s account.

I have been following this blog, my new app seems to work well most of the time but still logs out once in a while when I try to open dining.

I have a question about dining booked at the specialty restraunts, if you book and pay for say the Crown Grill and then cancel at a later date do you hat you money returned?

Same for me. After reading the later posts on this thread about the Shoreside payment kerfuffle I looked at the App to get a better understanding of what people were going on about. To my surprise when I clicked on the Shoreside payment option my credit card details that I have for the onboard account were already there. I certainly hadn't done it.

I'm not overly worried about it. After having had my credit card hacked by mystery overseas transactions twice in the past 18 months (including one for Only Fans - that was fun explaining to my wife that it wasn't me) I think this mob having your card details is no bigger risk than the day to day risk that is there all the time. I just check my statements far more regularly these days.

Noticed a bit of funkyness with the old app - I deleted the new one and won't use it until I have no choice. I tried to purchase internet for our upcoming cruise on Feb 3. When I got to the payment screen it stated that since I had not set up a cc in the app yet to provide one now to pay for the internet. Huh? I set that up weeks ago. So I exited and checked the payments section - yep there it is. Back to the internet section, tried to purchase, same message. Well, guess I'll re-enter my cc info. After about 5 mins waiting while it thought spun its wheels, it fails. "Please add a valid card". WTH? I go back, check the payments screen again, yep there's my card. Try the purchase again and it immediately works.

I wonder if they actually test these things before rolling them out or do they just wing it?

I haven't done this but if you cancel on board you will get your money back I'm sure. In the app? Not sure but I bet if you cancel before boarding you will but it may take time to get back to you.

Yeah I have tried logging out and back in, and even uninstalled and reinstalled. Still same issue. Under my profile picture includes an Add Journey button, but when I try to add my booking number, it says it is already added.

I had that problem and it turned out that I had two different Medallion numbers assigned. Customer service merged them and then it worked.

Ran into the same thing booking excursions two days ago. Apparently on board payments really means on board not, because I had to enter the card number.

If you cancel pre cruise, the refund goes back on your CC, up to about 3 days before sailing.

Otherwise, cancelling about 3 days before or once OB…you will get an OBC on your folio.

I take it that would be a refundable OBC?

IMO, it's not right for Princess to automatically load the CC info for the shoreside account. They didn't on my old app and they didn't on the new app. If they did I would delete it for the shoreside account. I have no issues with the onboard CC info automatically transferring over to the new app for the onboard account as I'm the one that initially put that info in. I also check my CC statement all the time. Always have.

App update overnight on Google Play, but I don't see any change in the prime areas of concern with the new app...specifically only one cruise at a time and the shoreside CC issue.

On the new app, just under days to go, there's a "Check-in" tab.  If I tap on it, it takes me to the dreaded Shoreside payment method.

However, if I don't tap on it but, instead, swipe left, other tabs appear.  One of those is "Boarding Pass."  It says "proceed to Green Lane."  If I tap on that tab, it gives me the check in QR code, and again reports "Green Lane" - as well as other check in information.

So, even in the app, if you don't want to provide a Shoreside payment method, you still get assigned to the Green Lane.

Anyone want to confirm this on their new app?

Thank you for the tip.  Yes indeed I have a QR code and Green Line without having entered Shoreside account.  HOWEVER, this app says "New to Princess despite me being Elite with 48 cruises.

Just spoke to an "Ocean" specialist who said she could not make changes to new app because it was still getting update.  She said use the boarding pass but wait until February.  I'll just use the old app for this cruise start 20 Jan.

Immediately after I posted this I got an update to 1.0.1

FWIW the iPhone/iPad 1.0.1 update for the new App has been out for over a week now and has been the only one released since it was released 2 weeks ago.

When will you see the Lane" to use at boarding, as in how many days before sailing?

The app correctly shows our status being elite, with the black color medallion, which we could order but the only option is to pick up at the pier because our fare is Standard.  It would not even give me an option to pay the scam mailing fee of $10, but it did remind me to order for all passengers at once to save the shipping cost..  LOL.

So I figure I would ask in this forum first before ordering it.  It is indeed the CC needs to enable the shore charges so get the green check mark on all, then you can pay the $10 to have it mailed.

Not a biggie.  We will pick it up at the pier.  Since this is a 16 days of TATL sailing, the worst to happen at the pier is to miss the short one hour dining room operation for embarkation lunch served at the dining room.  I cannot think of anything else we might miss.  In fact we might arrive the pier after 2pm to avoid lines.

I don't have any package, but I have the same icon with the plus sign. So... the plot thickens....

I have the "old" Plus. I have the + icon but the app says I don't have a package.

With Capital One I get both an email and a text almost immediately any time I have a charge on my account. No need to hassle with checking the CC statement.

EVERY Banks do that provided the cardholders set up such Alerts within EACH card.  That is how Chase, Citi and AMEX are operating.

On one Chase card I forgot to set up text alert but only email alert.  As a result I received email alert the moment German train DB charged my purchase, but no text alert.  It was my own oversight.

Once you set up the alerts there is no need to frequently check your statement.

You can also set up balance update on a fixed interval.  Cap One has that function, so as Chase.  I just find it too much for daily / weekly update.  All I need is to be notified promptly when a transaction is put on the card, especially it is online/over the phone/ international.  Regular charges I honest dont care to get frequent updates.

Not quite the same thing - but on our cruise on the Emerald in Nov I had booked the Steakhouse several months ahead of the cruise.  Something happened and we ended up showing up a day late (I had one day and they had another - most likely my mistake and I didn't catch it on the app).  I went to the customer service desk and they offered me the opportunity to go that evening or give me a refund.  They processed the refund on the spot.
