Does anyone know if they have a smoking area near the wake pool like they do on other ships?

Designated smoking areas are located at:

  • Wake View Terrace, Deck 8 Aft Starboard Side
  • Sun Bar, Deck 18 Forward Starboard Side
  • Casino, Deck 8 Forward - only during opening hours while actively playing

Crap.  They take away the adults pool area and the only other potential quiet pool area is near smoking.

As the ship steels down, my wuestion is whether the ship is not fully operational. From the things that were closed or unfinished on the maiden voyage, I would welcome updates.

Arena theatre and shows - I think at least one show is up and running, are they all?
spellbound - is this open?
Deck 19 amusements - Is it open yet?
the done, including the entertainment - up and running?
love by Britto - is this o[en yet? Anyone seen a menu?

Many of these questions were answered yesterday in @reedprincess's post #485 on this thread.

Sorry to change the subject… Wondering if anyone has tried the Crown Grill on the Sun Princess. I’m trying to decide between CG or Catch. How has the steak quality been lately?

We didn’t eat at either on the Sun but the ambiance in Crown Grill is much better. On this ship they stuck Catch at the back of the buffet and people were saying that it felt like eating at a cafeteria. The Crown is more of a real restaurant. Catch was wonderful on the Sky but not interested in it on the Sun.

I couldn’t agree more with Crown vs. Catch. You really are sitting in the back of the buffet at the Catch and the menu is about 60% of other ships.

More than a decade ago we had our first cruise on the Sapphire Princess that has a similar setup for the Sterling Steakhouse.  The food was very good but on subsequent cruises on the Sapphire - which is one of our favorite ships - we've never even considered eating there again because there was absolutely no ambiance.  In fact it had negative ambiance.

I'm dumbfounded that Princess is making the same mistake with the new Sun class.

I was booked on the inaugural Star next July in a Penthouse suite with all the Signature perks. This has been cancelled and new sailings are being launched next week.

As I understand it now if/when I re-book, I lose out on the suite only Sanctuary area and now the suite only Signature restaurant, as almost any cabin who pays the 'Sanctuary' premium will get access to all these (subject to a maximum number of cabins perhaps)? In fact all that is 'exclusive' now is the lounge?

That's a shame as I like the exclusivity of a suite and that is why I pay extra for it. They had better expand on the dining room size! (ex-Signature and Reserve - perhaps they will merge into one).

Just as I thought I would move away from X and their Retreat offering (which really was nice and exclusive for dining and lounge and butler), I am thinking of going back already!

I do not know from experience,  but have seen comments that the quality of beef on the SUN has been better.  I am hoping so!!!   Even thought The Catch does not have it's own venue,  I have not tried it, and we are considering going Premier instead of Plus so that we have these included.

I wonder if dining at a less busy time would help with the ambiance at The Catch?

Since the Catch venue on the Sun is not really that great, if you need to pick two with your Premier package the Crown and the new Teppanyaki could be your best choices.

They have finally updated the deck plan to show that there are in fact two separate restaurants, essentially one for the suites and another for the other Sanctuary cabins. I would expect that the Signature would be less crowded.

ON SECOND THOUGHT, MAYBE I'M LOSING IT AND IMAGINING A CHANGE.

That’s the same layout I posted in early April:

That's the same names and layouts as usual. Nothing has been changed...

Their doing away with "Reserve" on Suna nd Star. All will be Sanctuary, with different inclusions (basically, lounge or not?.  They'll all be Sanctuary though..

When they'll update the website and details on who gets to eat in which of these two venues - anyone's guess really...

What I am anticipating, unfortunately, is that Princess will turn both restaurants into the current Reserve format of MDR menus at breakfast and lunch plus one special dish at dinner.

If that happens the suite passengers will lose the current suite breakfasts and the promised unique dinner menus.  Just another diminution of the originally promised Signature suite experience.

If they do this they'll have to provide suite breakfasts in one of the specialty dining restaurants.  Makes no sense that suite breakfasts are available on all other Princess ships but not the Sun/Star.

Anyone have an update on Park 19 opening? My 11 year old is gonna be mad if it’s not open June 1

I'm also patiently waiting for any news about the Park 19 opening, especially if there's any extra charges for the RollGlider.
