The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday April 12th,

Good morning all!

Looks like it will be a cloudy but dry day today, not raining like I thought it would -- even up to the low 60's and sunny through the weekend.  So I should be unpacking those 4 suitcases, but it will be hard to stay inside.  Also there's laundry to do....

I'll pass on the meal, drink and red wine.  One of our good friends lives in Cozumel and we've been there at least once on a cruise.  We had plans to be there again this fall on a Celebrity cruise, but will be canceling that one.

Susan @durangoscots We still feel the ship move too.  But not when I'm trying to sleep!  Sure miss the great sleep on a BHB.

Cheers to all who are celebrating and prayers for all on the care list.

Have a great day!

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @kazu @richwmn & maps @rafinmd.

Big wind day is appropriate, as we're under a wind advisory right now. I'll celebrate human space flight, but not street children, as they sadden me.  Good quote. Yes to the meal, pass on the drink, and yes to the wine. I have not been to Cozumel. I saw a lot of commemorations to Gagarin when I visited the Star City Cosmonaut Training Center outside Moscow.

Lots going on here due to again record rain levels and wind advisories. Many roads closed, some people who live near creeks evacuated, some power outages. And it's still raining. Not much new with me. I did get a bit more sleep, as I fell back asleep after being up a few hours with bad pain. So about 5.5 hours total. I'll try to put more stuff back in the emptied rooms, as pain allows. BFF may come over tomorrow to help me out.

@aliaschief Great photos from places I'll likely never get to see. And the food looks good too.

@StLouisCruisers Very nice photo of you two! I hope you get an answer to your cough issue.

@kazu Good luck with the foot nurse specialist; I hope you can get some answers. I had mentioned that I lost all formatting on copying and pasting from the iPad after the last update. I had hoped another update would fix it, as having to do all the formatting by hand after pasting was no fun.

@grapau27 Nice photos from Cozumel.

@Seasick Sailor I'm sorry to hear that Ron has another diagnosis, but colitis can sometimes be caused by antibiotics. If that's the case it should be more easily treatable.

@ottahand7 That looks like it was a fun excursion in Cozumel.

@durangoscots I hope that sensation of the ship moving goes away. I usually had it 3-4 days after getting off a ship, until after my 2019 cruise when at 3 weeks I still had it. I was diagnosed by ENT with Mal de Debarquement syndrome, a rare vestibular disorder. It took a year to get rid of it. I took something to dampen vestibular response on my last cruise (first after the 2019 one) and was fortunately ok.

@smitty34877  Prayers for Tana and the family.

@AncientWanderer Beautiful gardens. Are you doing just the 14 night or that plus the Pacific crossing?

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Greetings friends.  We really love Cozumel.  Usually rent a car and have at it.  We have good Cozumel memories.

Now, we are in Yokohama preparing to board Westerdam.  It’s so funny…all the research and reading live threads…nobody prepared us for just how charming Yokohama itself is.  We expected a blah industrial port town.  Instead, we had a delightful day in a vibrant city, full of parks like this…

Right now I’m so jet lagged I barely know my own name, and my dogs are tired from LOTS of walking.  But will  post from time to time as we carry on.   Things have started off really well on this trip.  Walked our legs off and are enamored with Japan.   Hope to share good stuff with our Dailyites in the coming days. @bennybear, I think you nailed it.  Good vibes here.

Sending best wishes to all.  Have a great day!   ❤️

I am so happy for you!  We were literally blown away by Japan,  we didn’t expect to be SO enamoured.  I think because we were a bit intimidated with the language and yet we found it wonderfully easy.    Wishing you a most wonderful trip!  Do check out the vending machines and convenience stores.   Strange but fun!   Will be happy to follow along!

Good morning and thanks all. My memories of Cozumel from a New Year’s Day a few years ago when billionaires yachts were trying to out compete each other by having his and hers helicopters!    We enjoyed the snorkelling, but not quite like Hawaii.

Wishing improvement to all those in need, and a good day to all others!

So happy to see the bluebirds are back!

I forgot to mention that we booked another cruise. We honestly looked at other cruise lines and itineraries, however, we decided to stick with HAL and think of the price increase like almost everything else we buy - it's gone up in price.

We booked a 10-day Western Caribbean cruise on the Koningsdam that leaves on February 25, 2026.

Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie, and happy Friday.  Not sure I will celebrate Big Wind day but wow!.  I have been to Mt Washington a couple of times.  It's good to have a day to recognize street children but we also need to have a constant maintenance of services.  I will celebrate the dawn of human space flight.

I like the quote today.

I've been to Cozumel several times, Jewel OTS in 2012, Crystal Symphony in 2013, Grandeur of the Seas in 2015, and Empress of the Seas in 2019.

I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Pineapple, Banana, Strawberry Compote, Chilled Apricot Soup with Snow Egg, Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad, and Mango Blueberry Crisp as served on MS Zaandam April 12, 2017:

dishes12.jpg

I did my errands early this morning with periods of rain, and am now hunkered down inside for the rest of the day although I don't expect a lot more rain.

Good morning,

It's a quiet start to the day here which I needed. It's going to get busier in a bit. I have a Widows Support Group potluck lunch "Spring Fling" at noon. I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday as my contribution but need to package them up. I've got about 40 minutes left before I need to get out and moving.

No to most everything on today and haven't been to the port. Less than 2 months to the first of my 4 Alaska cruises. This one is on Majestic Princess at the beginning of June and I'm going by myself. The other 3 (2 HAL and 1 Princess) have friends going with me. I'm looking forward to the one by myself as I'm becoming a good solo traveler.

I mentioned earlier in the week that my DSIL passed away on Monday morning. Her service is next Friday, the 19th with a church one at 11 AM, reception afterward, then burial at a local cemetery. She fought a good fight against cancer but cancer won out in the end. She was an amazing quilter and I took a few pictures of her quilts yesterday that I have.

Nothing else too exciting.

Good afternoon.  We managed to get our errands done, but with our slow dryer, the laundry is still an ongoing process.  However, until we can move the dryer vent to a location where we can have more airflow, we'll have to live with a slow dryer.  Whoever was the genius that rain PVC through the foundation to vent it to the outside, must never have used a dryer.  The run is too long, and instead of 4 inch PVC they used about 3 or 2 inch PVC.  Even with a booster fan in the hose from the dryer to the vent opening in the wall, it still takes a long time to dry anything except the sheets.  That makes for a long day and more smaller loads.

Brenda, we enjoyed going into the convenience stores in Japan.  DH even found a good sake in a "milk" carton to take back on the ship.  We also found Coca Cola with added fiber in a vending machine.  To get around the language problem, DH used a translate app on his phone, and it worked.  I don't think many Japanese had seen the app, and they liked it and were amazed

Good morning. Sunny here and temperature around 45F. Supposed to get to low 70's this afternoon before it cools off a bit the next few days. Winds seem to come and go.

Yesterday was a highly successful day as my 2 luggage forward bags arrived in the afternoon and even better.... I got my taxes completed, sent, and they have been accepted!!! I will start unpacking this afternoon but the pace of everything is slowed now. More time for dog walking, reading and getting things reorganized. I think the trip from San Diego to Durango wore me out more than anything else has done and I still sometimes feel the ship move. Strange feeling.

Take care all and for those on the sea.... enjoy!!!!

Susan

Susan, I hope you get your land legs soon.  Good news on the taxes being accepted.

We stopped in Cozumel several times, but the two most memorable included private excursions to a local woman's home for cooking classes. We chose the menu from a book of options, then she took us to a food market a block away where she chose the ingredients, stopped at a tortilla factory to pick some freshly made, and then back to the house to prepare the dinner, accompanied by lots of margaritas! It was magical!

Aww - you are a sweetheart - thank you 🙂.  Please don’t use data if it is costing you $$.  I can check it tomorrow and amend if needed.  It’s no big deal.

Vanessa after a bit of frustration, I did some googling and think I have a resolution for you.

Instead of selecting the first word in your piece you are copying and pasting, go down to the last word and select all.  And the do your copy.

That works fro most things but when it doesn’t, I discovered if I went down to the last word and selected it and then moved it so that I had it all covered and chose copy it would paste.

Select all worked today with my FCL using the last word and select all but for the Fleet report, I had to select the last word and then scroll up so it was all highlighted and then choose copy.  Both pasted so it seems to be a bit of trial and error.  the key is to start at the bottom, last word and not the top.

If that doesn’t make sense, I’ll see if I can find the article again and give you the link.

the weird thing is everything worked for me until this morning.  there was another update last night so I guess that’s what did it.  My IPads are always completely up to date.

Of course!😄

LOL - it is tempting.  I so loved the Prinsendam and the service and food that was a step above the other HAL ships.  I’m a tad nervous though being a solo now.  At least on the HAL ships there is a chance there is someone I “know” or even have cruise with before.

Whe we sailed O, I found them very cliquish if you were new.  It wasn’t a big deal at the time as I was with DD DH and other friends but being solo, it would be a whole different kettle of fish if passengers were “d cliquish”.  New passengers were looked down upon in my opinion.  I’ve never treated new passengers on HAL that way and it was a bit off putting.

Karen, my sincere apologies - I wasn’t on much earlier this week due to just too many appointments and a funk.  I am so very sorry you lost your DSIL.

My deep condolences to you and her family and prayers 🙏

I hate cancer.  It has taken too many wonderful people.

Good afternoon from a very windy day in Wisconsin.  Not 231mph, but it is windy.  Just had a 30 second big downpour, now I'm afraid to go for my walk.

We've been to Cozumel many times to stay on the island.  We always enjoyed it because the beach was so calm compared to other warm destinations.  The last several years we've cruised instead of the land trip.  We did cruise to Cozumel on our our our trips, it looked so different after covid shutdowns.

I feel for street children and their families...

No thanks on the lentil meal!

Blessings on your day, and have a great weekend, Karen

I have been to Cozumel at least 8 times-

3 times with a day pass to a hotel ( El Cid) snorkeling and lunch

once a tour of the island

once to Isla Passione (great trip)

once to do a Salsa and Salsa (I dont dance)

Once DH and I just wandered the shops, and had a great lunch

But the most memorable was when DH and I saw the Papantla flyers- In order to be one, your father must be one, so when the Catholics tried to squash the gods out of the Mayans , they did this in secret in the forests-

Good morning, everyone!

We have another chilly rainy day in store here in mid-Michigan.  The high is only 46F and rain is supposed to last all day.  I started the day by spilling a full cup of coffee all over the desk and floor.  The fortunate part is most of the carpet was covered by a plastic mat for the chair.  What a mess.  And what a waste of good coffee!

Not much on the agenda for today.  Farkle is postponed until tomorrow as tonight DB and DSIL will be going to their grandson's birthday celebration.  Probably a good day for movies and popcorn after the gym.

I'll take a pass on today's meal due to the carb load.  But, it might be good as a side dish with small servings.  This first recipe is for the instant pot or top of the stove.  https://www.skinnytaste.com/lentil-curry/

lentilcurry2.thumb.jpg.bc58a862bcaad850831e30540945f474.jpg

This recipe is a bit more complicated, but I bet the flavor is great.  https://www.chelseasmessyapron.com/lentil-curry/

Here's one more recipe that is somewhere between the first two on complexity.  https://www.recipetineats.com/lentil-curry-mega-flavour-lentil-recipe/

And a huge thank you for these recipe pages!   YUM!

I'll learn protocol and how this all works as I continue lurking...

And a huge thank you for these recipe pages!   YUM!

I'm from Texas and Galveston is my home port.   I've been looking into some HAL cruises and was invited to read this thread.   Cozumel is a frequent port for me...  and mostly on Carnival.  But as a CCL Shareholder,  I'll enjoy benefits on HAL, too!

Sorry for me blurting out here,  and thank you!

Thanks for asking about the new job. Yes, it is going well. I actually feel like I am earning my check now. 😀😃 😀

I'm glad the new job is going well.  It's nice when you feel like you're earning your pay.
