Since there are a few stations, the answer the security people will tell you is only to appease you & get you going in the correct deck and not necessarily the right one. 😄

Wanna bet on that? I have never been given incorrect safety information from Security.

I think people who need to know where there muster station is prior to boarding are not really cut out for cruising.

Disagree. No way are we new to cruising. We are cut out for cruising, We like the new way of doing the muster drill. Huge improvement. We board before the cabins are available. When we first board we go directly to our muster station to be accounted for to get that out of the way. Then off to get a welcome aboard drink, do a little exploring of the ship while waiting for the cabins to become available. Cheers.

Security staff are highly trained in not escalating a situation and are specialists in dealing with people who are drunk, obnoxious, violent, out of there mind etc. They will definitely go out of their way to make sure people's problems are resolved however trivial without causing offence or making them feel stupid.

My experience of booking in at the muster station is that the guys controlling things are not generally in attendance immediately you board the ship.  Certainly not before cabins are available.  I have always assumed that this was the case as the majority of passengers have not yet by that time been able to see the notice on the cabin door.

Isn't the muster station listed on the back of our stateroom door?

It sure is but just in case there's an emergency before the ship leaves port, some people want to be sure they know where to report.

This is correct, however some people have indicated that they like to go to the muster station first, prior to cabins being available. They may then register at the station and this allows them have a drink prior to trying to find their cabin.

I didn't need to ask as the app showed me the muster station letter and location before boarding. I can't/won't assume or speak for others.

There are a number of crew members at each muster station. When boarding begins they are there. There is no lead person controlling the station. There are no instructions or demos provided. You just walk up, place your medallion on the reader, the attendant will say thank you and you are done. You can complete this step of the process from the time you board up until the ship sails.

Lets not make this too complicated. It is very, very easy.

All muster stations are located on prom deck on most ships. Your location will depend on your cabin location. We mostly sail all the way aft on Grand class ships so we know that our station is at the aft lounge

Not sure. I would have thought that you get to the muster point as soon as possible - the life boats are equipped with life jackets. In the past we all had to attend our muster stations at the same time and you could have asked your question but now we just watch the safety video on the cabin tv and just attend the muster station so you know where it is if needed.

I'm hoping that you will not need to have this experience on your cruise.

The instructions in the video tell you to go to your cabin to get your life jacket and other items

I ask security about that as I first board. They will tell you.

It’s shown in the app as soon as you board.

Agree. I was surprised when watching the presentation on the cabin TV (Enchanted), each of us got a green check marks next to our names at the conclusion of the muster video. We were busy unpacking. Nothing like that with Celebrity and RC.

The Celebrity app works exactly that way. One passenger can watch the video and check the box that both have seen it.

how do I know where my muster station is before I go to the cabin?  Does that info pop up on the app once I board (like, it seems, the folio does).?

Yes. It is there as soon as you connect to MedallionNet

No box to be checked on the app (before boarding) on any of our 7 Celebrity cruises since 2022. Didn't need to watch it again on the TV. Last two Celebrity cruises were September/October 2023. I 'll let you know when we complete our September Celebrity cruise.

Our muster station showed on the app for our 27 March Enchanted cruise prior to boarding the ship. I checked the app in our pre cruise hotel the morning of our cruise.

So, if I'm up on the pool deck and hell breaks loose and we get told to report to your muster station, I could just head to my cabin to pick up a few things? Doesn't seem right to me, but I'll take your word for it as I can't remember what was in the safety video. I'll check in July.

If you are told by a crew member to report to your muster station, you should definitely comply. The video gives instructions on what to do if the general emergency alarm is sounded.

I'm sure they do have a limited number of life jackets available for the few who can't bring them from their cabins but at the same time they're counting on most people will bring one.

If it's that much of an emergency I'm sure they'll let people know not to go to their cabins.

I'm sure they do. Not that I ever want to go through it but if an emergency occurred at say around lunch time on a nice day when basically no one is in their cabin it would be quite a commotion if people had to go to their cabin to get a life jacket. People running everywhere, being held up by scooters, walking frames being shattered, people insisting on getting an elevator despite having to go one set of stairs, people trying to get the App to work to see where their companions are,  etc. It would be pandemonium.

I'm sure it would be but it's the least of my worries on modern cruise ships. Especially running into errant ice bergs.

If one examines the Oceanos episode and the Costa Concordia situation I should say the biggest problem is whether the crew act responsibly.

Regards John

For the Costa Concordia disaster, it would seem it was the captain who was to blame.

There is an additional supply of life jackets for those who arrive without the ones in their cabins.   I have no idea if the ship's safety SOP is counting on most bringing their own.

What to do if one cannot return to their cabin before proceeding to the muster station is covered in the muster briefing.
