The Fleet Report and Daily for Thursday September 5th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Another gorgeous day in northern New Jersey. September!

@aliaschiefAloha to Bruce! 🌺

@kochleffel  Paul, very interesting that the 240 issue was at the meter. Thanks for the explanation.  Glad it’s fixed!
@Haljo1935Elizabeth, we were supposed to test the fire truck foam system every month but DH was very concerned about where that foam was sprayed. We’d drive the truck away from the community (wells). Some of it is very nasty and I think the older types are now no longer sold but we still had them and used them.   My understanding is that low exposure is not hazardous but frequent exposure, especially to the concentrate, can be unhealthy in the long run. I hope they get their water back soon!
@ottahand7Nancy, I’m sorry your DB has to be in a facility for getting his IV antibiotics. We did 6 weeks of that ourselves at home for DH when he had abscesses develop 2yrs after gall bladder surgery. It wasn’t easy but being home had advantages. Thankfully DH was ambulatory. Praying for Amazing!
@Vict0riann Ann, extra blessings for Pat and you. Stunning flowers! Thank you!

@Denise T I’m very excited for all your progress and your cruise coming up fast!  It’s been a long count-down but nearly here! Thanks for including us!

Blessings to all in need of healing, comfort or hope!  Especially thinking of @marshhawk and DH!

Cheers for those celebrating Life is Good🌈

Smooth travels for all away, especially our cruisers! 🛳️

@kazu Strength, solace and sanity for Jacqui!

Thanks all for sharing photos!  It gets us thinking….
I’m still glowing from our recent cruise!  Wanting to do another!!  I’m just “over the top” not having to do eye drops for DH, not needing them!  AmAzing!

Feel loved today! Maureen

Good morning from a still cloudy and windy central Texas.  It is 73F with a 7mpph wind from the N.  The humidity is 94% with a dew point of 71F.  Our weather forecast for today is for continued wind up to 13mph rom the NNE and cloudy.  The good news is the chance of rain is never above 10%, and our high will be 86F this afternoon.  My plan is to get out a bit later this morning to mow and trim the grass.  I want to give it a little more time to dry out.  It is getting shaggy since it didn't need mowing last Saturday.  I was going to wait until Saturday, until I found out the Texas football game will be at 11am CD Saturday morning.  By Sunday, it would probably be way too tall to mow with just one pass.

Charity is a good thing, and it can be in many forms besides monetary.  I try not to be late.  Cheese pizza is okay, but we much prefer toppings on our pizza.

I totally agree with the Bob Marley quote.

Grilled steak is popular in this house, but please, please leave the pesto off mine, especially kale pesto.  We may just have steak tonight.  I'll pass on the drink, but the Pinot Noir sounds good.

We have been to General San Martin twice, on Ryndam in 2001, and in 2015 on Ruby Princess.  The first time we took a tour which included a museum in Pisco and a flight over the Nazca lines.  The lines are amazing, must be seen from the air.

The 1958 demonstration of recording in color on magnetic tape was the beginning of a revolution in tv broadcasting and later in home movies.  We still have our Betamax camera and tape deck.

@kochleffel  Paul, I hope you feel like traveling again soon.  Our only hang up is flying, especially with all the problems with flights recently.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope Chuck's @catmando back is better today.  I'm glad you will be able to go to the concerts this year since that is what you both enjoy so much.

@cunnorl  Charlene, I agree with you about those late people on an excursion.  Once in Auckland on tour we picked up locally, the driver left a couple at the museum after we waited quite awhile for them.  He told us that on a multi-day tour, one family was always 30 minutes late.  He told the rest of the tour participants that he was going to announce the boarding time, but for them, it would be 30 minutes later than stated.  He added that it worked.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, I'm happy your DH's eye pressure is stable and within the accept range so no drops are needed.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I'm sorry your DB is facing an extended rehab stay.  Have the brought in a infection specialist?

We have been to General San Martin twice.  In 2001, we were on the Ryndam, and I was still using  a film camera.  That time we flew over the Nazca lines, and that was definitely not a disappointment.  The second stop was in 2015 on Ruby Princess with @StLouisCruisers Sandi, but we did not meet until we were both on the Daily.  That day, we took the shuttle into Parachas and walked around.  We also hired a taxi to take us to Tambo Colorado and Pisco.

A few more pictures of Parachas.

This pelican hung around the boardwalk, and some of the locals were feeding him.  Later, he was walking on the boardwalk, but when I tried to take his picture, he turned into an attack pelican.

Tambo Colorado is the remains of an Inca village near the coast.  Until our visit, we had not realized the Incans had lived in the desert.  You can see in the next to last picture what irrigation can do to the desert.

Good morning from hot/humid Florida - another bad hair day thanks to the high humidity. Charity & pizza are great, and I agree "charity" can be far more than monetary. My preferred pizza would have green bell peppers, but no other added toppings. Being late is something not in my DNA - I'm early rather than late, and unless it's an extraordinary unpreventable sudden situation, being late is disrespectful and shouldn't be tolerated. Ok, off my soapbox 😉

I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine - drink's too sweet, wine's red and why mess up a great steak with kale????  The port is definitely one for the future - assuming HAL continues running the Grand South America & Antarctica once I retire that one's on my bucket list.  Appreciate the many photos!

@marshhawk Hope your DH's back recovers soon, and your beef curry sounds delicious! Regarding that school shooter, in my opinion his parents should be charged. Too many red flags yet they continued to have guns in the home, weren't aware of what their little darling was doing, etc. So sad for the victims of this senseless violence. We have active shooter training coming up in a couple of weeks but hope to never actually be in that situation.

Good morning Dailyites from the beautiful Westerdam headed for Sitka. It's a bit dreary now, but hoping the weather cheers up.

I like the Bob Marley quote. I would like to celebrate being late: to my funeral.

Prayers lifted, including the families of the Georgia school shooting. What a tragedy. I'm anxious to hear the results of my sister's appointment with the surgeon. What a mess in the middle east. Praying for the innocents caught up in the wars.

Wishing you a blessed day.

On the Zaandam I took one of the more of the unusual tours, an exploration of the sand dunes.  Most of it was on dune buggies, souped up VW beetles with roll cages:

We also got out and tried a little board surfing.  I tried it sitting but not standing:

Good morning all!

I think the next few days will be our farewell to summer.  Mid 80's today and tomorrow, then much cooler and wet next week.  I'll be driving north to Mt. Vernon today for lunch with my BFF, should be a nice day to drive.

I have an appointment to get my flu shot at Haggen when I get home later this afternoon.  Covid vaccine set for later in the month before we travel again.  My Dear Sister wishes it had been available before they left home, she's very sick with Covid after their river cruise and are miserable and stuck in a hotel in FL.  I feel so bad for her.  At least they have friends locally who are bringing them food etc.

Three interesting days, I agree with the quote.  I'll pass on the meal (leave steak plain), red wine and sweet drink.  We've been to Peru but not this port.  Thank you for the interesting photos!  It definitely looks like a port to get out away from.

I hope everyone has a very good day!

Good morning,

It's supposed to be pretty warm, for us, today with highs close to 90F. It's sunny and pleasant at the moment but it's not even 9:00 AM!

I hate being late and am usually early. No to kale pesto but do like steak on occasion. I'll have cheese pizza but prefer more toppings.

Today is hopefully getting packed for the cruise on the Eurodam on Saturday. So far Juneau is looking decent weather-wise which is nice. My friends going with me are so excited! I have a new store in Ketchikan to look at - Alaska Eagle Arts. It's on Creek Street right near Parnassus books which is another favorite stop for me.

Today is cleaning up the house and getting some packing done as tomorrow is busy.

Have a good day!

Good morning. Sunny and dry as usual. Highs today in the low 80's but Fall is coming. Temps in the morning are in high 40's. It is also wonderfully quiet now that the motorcycle rally is over. Tourism will pick up bit with the Fall colors then drop again until ski season. Hunting season must be close as the deer population in my yard is up - including several bucks with nice large headpieces.... they are smart to hang out in town. And the bears are bulking up for winter. So far they have not tested our dumpster.

I have been to today's destination and had both good tours and good visits into the town. But it is desolate. However, since I am not much of a city person, it is one of my favorite SA stops.

Am finishing packing up 2 packages for Scottie Rescue auction which I will haul to the Post Office early tomorrow morning. Then I need to start clearing out my 2nd bedroom which functions as a storeroom right now. I am going to have the rug taken up and new flooring put in and it needs painting. There are a lot of storage boxes in there that need dealing with. Many souvenirs from dog showing days. Ribbons and trophies need to go. Some of the trophies were pretty ugly.  And books.... lots of books. My handyman wants to do his bit early winter.... we shall see.

Best wishes to all. Will think of everyone as I use bubble wrap for its intended purpose.

Susan

Thank you Sandi, thank you Eva, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work.  And thank you everyone for being here!

DSIL has her first post-op visit with the Ortho this afternoon. Waiting to see if they substitute a boot for the cast yet. Yesterday the Physical Therapist did a home visit. We had been expecting to need to drive to the facility but happy to hear they will come to us.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

Good morning.  Today was the 2nd day in a row Dear Mom had an issue, this time it's bees, she thinks there's a nest under the siding of the house, near the garage, which means they could be in the garage attic as well.  I gave her several pest control numbers and she assured me she will not attempt to go in the attic on her own.  And if she doesn't get anywhere she's meeting a friend later whose family owns several businesses, so if she strikes out she might be able to get some recommendations from her.

I'm never late, in fact I'm always arriving way earlier than I need to and it doesn't always benefit me.  If I had arrived exactly on time or slightly late to meet Rich last Saturday I probably would not have missed him.  Fashionably late has it's advantages.

I will take cheese pizza, I like only certain toppings so even though cheese is boring it's better than some of the concoctions I've seen out here on the west coast.

The gummy drink sounds awfully sweet, but I'd try it at least once.  I was surprised there was no gelatin in the recipe since that's what gummies are made of.

I better get started on my day, I need to get a lot more done since tomorrow afternoon is the ultrasound.

Have a nice Thursday everyone.

At least 90 this late in the season is tolerable, unlike 90 when we have our 18 hours of daylight.

I always clean before a trip too, nothing worse than coming home to a dirty house, laundry is usually all I have to deal with.

Aloha! It’s 6:16 AM here in Honolulu and promises to be another beautiful Hawaii day. Sitting on our balcony overlooking Waikiki Beach and the Pacific precious. I’m in the never late crowd. Probably military training to some degree but I believe my dad ingrained the habit of being on time.

Thanks for the pics of Pisco as we will be visiting there next year on our cruise around South America.

This morning I’m watching granddaughter as rest of family get’s a private tour of Pearl Harbor on the Admirals Barge.

Our flight over on Hawaiian air was fine and on time. Saturday we fly over to Kauai for our 3 week stay.

Enjoy the rest of your day. Mahalo for the reports and post. Bruce

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll celebrate International Day of Charity. I try not to be late for anything. I'll take cheese pizza, and throw some pepperoni on it. I like the quote. I like the meal, minus the kale pesto. Pass on the drink and yes to the wine. I haven't been to the port. A good day in history.

We had a chilly start, but now it's 75 and sunny. This weekend we won't get out of the 60's. I took some ibuprofen before bed, but my knee was still hurting this morning. I used Voltaren cream and it seems better for now. Doing laundry yesterday (up and down steep stairs) didn't help. Balance is about the same. No plans for today, other than sorting through stuff slowly.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for your dedication in getting us started up while Rich is cruising. Lovely photos from Peru.

@cat shepard Good news on the Derm visit.

@ottahand7 That looks like an interesting tour. Thanks for the photos.

@Sir PMP Thanks for the map and photos.

@marshhawk You've been busy. Good to see you posting. Sorry to hear that Chuck put his back out and was in pain yesterday; hopefully better today. Maybe a heating pad on his back? I'm glad you renewed your symphony season. Nice photo.

@RMLincoln Your post cruise glow makes me smile. And it's great that DH's eye pressure is doing well without drops.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Thanks for the photos.

@rafinmd Cool photos from the sand dunes.

@Cruising-along Enjoy your lunch with your BFF. Sorry DSis is so ill, but good she has friends in the area. I hope she's feeling better soon.

@atexsix Good luck with the ultrasound tomorrow.

@HAL Sailer Thinking of you and DH.

@kazu I hope things are progressing in your preparations, Jacqui.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Good afternoon, everyone!

We had a full day yesterday at the Bay of Fundy.  We got there during low tide and were able to walk out quite far on the ocean floor.  Small tide pools provide a safe place for some sea life.

This first picture is of the far side of Flower Pot Island.IMG_3580.thumb.jpeg.e7ef1823da5f7d2b25cf9c277123ac89.jpeg

And now we see it as the tide comes in.

Today we are in Saint John, New Brunswick.  Yesterday was pretty tiring so we had a laid back day.  Sue and I walked up to the City Market.  We bought coffee and lemon filled croissants at the Charlotte Street Bakery and took them across the street to the park to eat.  OMG, those croissants were to die for.  If you ever get the chance, try them.  We had devoured them before I thought to take a picture.  Here’s some flowers in the park to make up for that.

Good afternoon.  It's another pleasant day here.  Cooler, then warmer over the weekend.  Haven't been to the port, thanks for the pictures.  Not sure about the meal, I'm not a big steak lover.  My 1st choice going out would be shrimp.  I don't like to be late, prefer to be 10-15 minutes early.  Today was quilting day at church.  They all go to charity.

@marshhawkPrayers your DH is feeling better soon.

Prayers for all on the care list and cheers to those celebrating.  Have a wonderful afternoon.  Karen

Good afternoon from St. Anthony's  Newfoundland.

I was hoping to catch up on the daily before posting but I see that isn't going to happen.

So thank you all for  the Bon Voyage wishes. They were very much appreciated.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the weather so far. Much nicer than predicted. We are enjoying the cruise. Tonight is dinner in the Pinnacle.  Yum.

Another surprise was meeting a cousin on the ship. We haven't seen each other in years, and had no idea we were both doing this cruise.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who are grieving or have medical issues. And with all of the amazing caregivers.

Thanks to all who help make the Daily great.
