I'm sure I've made this recommendation in the past, but it doesn't hurt to post again.

I use cruisedeckplans dot com. They seem to be fairly up-to-date with their info.

They even have a function where you can "drag decks" to see what is above and beneath you. I just line up the stairwell/elevator banks. And it takes some hunting, but you can find the listing of cabins, by deck, and it tells you just what sort of configuration your cabin has for bedding, seating, windows, safe, refrigerator, etc.

Under/over the shops or dining rooms is fine. Under the spa (pounding treadmills), pool deck (chair dragging), galley (noisy) are areas to avoid. Over or under anything that looks like it has a stage is probably not wise if you aren't a night-owl. This includes the casino areas on Carnival ships because they have bands there at night.

I prefer the lowest deck, midship. Quiet and less movement.

I'm in a spa balcony cabin on Splendor to Bermuda in October. Let's hope the seas are as calm as they were when I sailed Glory there a few years ago. Had a 1A w/portholes (cabin 2217) and had some severe waves-slamming-against-the-hull issues one night. I moved from that cabin on Splendor to the spa balcony (NOT one of the first ones; two solo cruisers decided to share one cabin). I don't like being that far forward or that high because of movement. I'll simply go prepared with my Ginger Root, meclizine and wrist bands. ;)

really good advice. One question though. When I went to the website, I was asked to join in order to use the site. Do you have to pay to use it?

Any thoughts on this room? I know it is by the elevators and aft. First cruise and reading all these posts can make you question your choice.

2420 is under the galley. When are you cruising?

can you find something similar and got back a few more cabins.

Being by the elevator is a good thing- especially the aft because most of the stuff in in the back-- food, pools. the only time you travel is to the show lounge.

Make sure that 15 year old goes to Teen orientation the first night- Make it mandatory for him. He will meet up with the kids onboard and will be hanging out with them all week. You will find them in the hot tub, playing cards, eating pizza etc

I have a question for those who might know about NCL JADE

We are in 9172 (aft suite) for one leg of a B2B and then move 2 doors down to 9672 for the second leg.

We could move to 8630 for the entire cruise.

Should we stay put or change to the Deck 8?

Are all cabins the same size.

Gift shop is below 8630, so no problem there.

I remember that balcony cabins are sometimes smaller on deck 8 on NCL ships.

Thanks for any help. :)

The cruise is Aug 9 - 16th. Thanks for responding. I booked it without looking at the deck plans. Now I know.

The cruise is sold out of oceanview anyways-- I am hoping you are watching pricing to see if the balcony comes down to what you paid.

if so ask to be moved

Its a basic inside cabin. and its good location- over the fun shops

Thank you for your reply!! This will be our first interior cabin and wasn't real sure on how to choose. Have always tried to stay mid ship and low but thought hmmm why not try higher up:rolleyes:?

inside cabins are extreme darkness 24/7 take an alarm clock to wake up in the morning or you could sleep whole hours away. Nice cabin though for midday naps

our favorite is deck 7 by those back elevators on the right side= by that grey area which is where the fire doors are kept. no across the hall neighbors. easy access to the stairs-- 2 floors up for food and pool 2 floors down for entertainment

Nope. If you click on some of the photos, it wants you to join to view them, but I've never had any problem just viewing the normal site items.

For the person asking about being near the elevators, I personally don't like to be too close. I'm not interested in proximity to elevators or food. In fact, I like being on the lowest decks because I always take the stairs to help offset some of that caloric consumption. For some of us, easy access to the buffet is not a plus. ;)

But the main reason is that I feel it's noisier. People tend to come off the elevators talking and continue to talk down the hallway so the further away you are, the more likely they'll go into their own cabin or maybe (unlikely) realize that it's possible people are sleeping behind those doors and they should be quiet.

I know Royal is new ship but Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this cabin. We can move somewhere on Marina deck....but ALOT OF rooms are below pool and Horrizon court. C732 is Aft Port. Just wondering if we should stay where we are. Have about 4 other couples we are going with...and they all chose M deck. We just want a good cabin....that does not shake, have weird noises..or banging doors ! :p Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

As to being near elevators, I love it.

I think most people do, because these cabins seems to be gone quickly.

We have never been bothered by noise from elevators.

When your cabin is right at the elevator, it is sure easy to find.

Judy

It isn't the noise from the elevators themselves (although I had a little cabin behind them once and could hear the elevator going up and down all night).

It's the humans who exit the elevators and continue to talk (loudly) as they walk to their cabin because they have no consideration for others. I have had that happen on multiple cruises so, of course, the farther away from the elevators, the more likely those inconsiderate people will enter their cabin and get out of the hallway!

And like I've said, the more walking to and from my cabin, the better. I rarely gain any weight when I cruise. I refrain from eating enough for 4 people at every meal; I just eat about double what I normally eat ;) .

This is interesting.

I wonder why you hear the people and I don’t.

We get cabins right at the entrance to the elevators - and we’ve even had a cabin right at the entrance to the pool deck.

We’ve never been bothered by the gabby folks.

I have very good hearing - I hear water leaks in our house.

I wonder if it is the difference in cruise lines.

We sail on NCL most of the time.

I do believe that you are bothered by them and I have heard this from others.

I am just wondering what is different for you and for me.:confused::confused:

Cabin 2279

Grade 6C - Ocean View cabin on Deck 2.

Something in/on the hull creaked and groaned all night while underway! :(

I pitied the folks in the cabins one deck under me (1265 and 1267)

- closer again to the source of the noise.

Before I came to the conclusion it was prob. just the stabiliser fin on my starboard side

I had visions all night of Titanic steel plates tearing and cracking ever-wider. :D

I'm sure Fincantieri didn't make the stabiliser to creak and groan like that

so would somebody in dry dock please put a little grease where needed.

Well, every sailing is different. Maybe I've just had bad luck to get the loud, late night talkers on my hallway. I'm not a terribly light sleeper, but I do hear people who are loud (and usually have been drinking for several hours) when they're still in "party mode" as they walk down the hallway. Hasn't been on every sailing, of course, but I just prefer to stay away from that area.

I had an inside right around the corner from the midship elevators on Carnival Conquest and had absolutely no problem. But had one on Carnival Fantasy and every gang of running kids came down my way. Just luck of the draw I suppose.

I take the stairs the entire cruise so walking down a hallway away from the elevators is actually a plus, as I get in even more steps. Must counter-act the caloric consumption every way I can (without actually setting foot in the gym, of course! :p ).

I wonder if the difference concerning hearing elevator/hall noise is in the type of cabin.

You mentioned having an inside cabin.

Ours have been balconies.

Maybe this is the difference.

I agree with you totally about the steps. :)

I use the steps when possible - almost always when going down.

My knees tell me that I’d better use the elevator when going up 5 decks or more.

I even use a White Noise app on my phone. At home, I have a big box fan going year-round when I'm sleeping, so maybe it's just too quiet in the cabin and more noise finds my ears.

Next cruise is in a spa balcony on Splendor so I expect it to be very quiet up there. Right after that is an inside on Riviera, midship, on Sunshine. I expect there to be lots more people in the hallway day and night.

My knees hurt more going down (especially when wearing heels). In the morning, I'll climb from my low-deck cabin up to Deck 5, walk all the way aft (to catch my breath) then on up to Deck 9 for breakfast. There are lots of stairs between Deck 1 and Deck 9!

I’m impressed with all of that walking up stairs!

I can go down 9, but never up.

We’ve had a spa balcony on the Magic and I thought it was very quiet.

We had a door down the hall that went out to the pool deck that would slam at times, but luckily only during the daytime.

I loved the spa access. We like to unwind, sitting in the hot tub (very large), but learned not to go there during what many considered Happy Hour. There was way too much drinking, which I thought was not allowed.

When in the minority, we found it easier not to go that time of day.

We’d sit in the lounge chairs instead.

My wife and I have booked an Alaskan cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam out of Vancouver in June next year. So far we have booked a signature suite but not actually chosen a cabin. Is there any particular cabin(s) we should avoid when making our selection? This will be our very first cruise.

Thanks in advance.
