  1. Good afternoon from an interesting day weather wise and other wise.  Just after 9am the skies got very dark and the wind picked up along with rain.  We were under a wind advisory with predicted gusts up to 50 mph until 11:30.  The wind was high enough to blow some empty storage drawers onto the floor in the port and to move the satellite antenna enough that we lost the signal.  After the wind died, I took the broom out and using the handle moved the antenna back in place.

As if that wasn't enough, there was an "oh fudge" moment just after I started the drier.  I noticed lint on the floor and checked behind the drier..  Sure enough the vent hose had come off the connection to the outside vent.  We moved the drier out some, then I moved the washer at an angle followed by the drier, which gave me enough room to squeeze behind the drier.  First, got the lint vacuumed up, and then, as I was ready to put the vacuum up, the bottom of the dust cannister popped open.  Once I the lint was vacuumed again, I got the hose back in place and the hose clamp tightened down very tight.  It was fun getting the drier back in place and keeping the vent hose from kinking while we pushed the drier back.  After being married to an engineer for almost 57 years, I came up with a novel solution.  We have a very long extension cord, which I put under the middle of the hose, and with the cord plugged into itself, we used it to lift the hose while we pushed the drier back in place.  The end result is the hose is not as kinked as before and the drier is working better.  I'm just glad I hadn't vacuumed and mopped that area earlier.

And people think homebodies don't have interesting lives.  😁

It is getting dark again, and there is lightning and thunder.  We've had rain on and off, and it is pouring again  Our yard is saturated.  There will be a break after 5pm and more rain about 8 pm.  I think it's a good night to reheat the leftover chili and make some cornbread.  I just wish I could have some wine with it, but was advised to wait several days after the dental surgery.  😒

Good afternoon from the North Atlantic. Tomorrow we’ll be passing through the Gibraltar Straits. Captains noon hour report stated that we have now sailed 34,800 miles and our present sea conditions are running around 10-12’ waves and temperature around 68F.

We really enjoyed our visit in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria yesterday. After viewing the huge caldera from the volcano that took place 2,000 years ago we visited a small mom and pop winery. They produce around 5,000 bottles a year but also produce olives, oranges, bananas, mangos and coffee. All in a beautiful flowered botanical setting. We tasted some very good wines along with freshly wood oven baked bread, homemade marmalade, red pepper sauce cheese and olives.

Just a very special and momentous event.

Rocking along on our first of three sea days.

Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  A best friend in law is becoming best friends with your friend's best friend.  Sort of like becoming your own grandpaw.  LOL  Like many of you, I have too many fillings/crowns to be tempted with taffy.  Turtles are the only reptiles I don't hate - I do love watching nature shows when the little ones make their way from the nests to the ocean for the first time.

To begin with, thank you all for your well wishes, prayers, and thoughts for Maurice's surgery yesterday.  The internet was spotty in the cardiac short stay area, so I couldn't get online and read yesterday's FR&D.  Once finished with this post, I will go back and read it.  DH's surgery went well; after a rather sleepless night (always wondering if the alarm would really go off!) we arrived at 6:30 to admitting and he was taken to the OR at 9.  He was back in the room by 11:30 and spent the rest of the day attended to by the most amazing nurses.  The doctor came by around 6:45 and said the surgery went "wonderfully" and after checking his echo-cardiogram (which he said looked really nice), said DH could go home.  By the time we got the discharge papers, etc., we wobbled into the house around 8:30.  Neither of us was really hungry (they fed DH at the hospital); all I wanted was a bowl of cereal and we were in bed by 9.  I don't remember my head even hitting the pillow; I think I went straight from conscious to coma.

This morning we have to back to the hospital for a follow-up blood test and ECG, and hopefully that will be it.  Something I didn't know, is that DH can't have any dental work done for the next 6 months, and when he does, he has to take antibiotics for 7 days - even for a cleaning!  Interesting.

@smitty34877please wish Tana a very Happy Birthday from her Canadian friends.  I hope she's buoyed by all the well wishes for her special day.

I'm going to take a pass on the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the white wine, but I do like the menu suggestion.  DH's sister messaged me at the hospital last night and said she would like to provide dinner for us tonight - thank goodness, as I don't know what I'd cook, nor sure if I have the energy today to do much more than exist.  Adrenaline crash really is something.  Whatever my DSIL brings will be what we enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

    Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

    Gerry

Gerry, I'm very happy Maurice's surgery went well and I hope the test results today are all good.  Enjoy the dinner your DSIL is nice enough to cook for you tonight.

Happy Birthday Tana!  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie.  I can’t relate to any of today’s days.  Great news on Maurice.

Plato’s take on life is quite interesting..

A great day in German History..

I have not cruised to Baie Comeau although I boarded the ferry across the St. Lawrence there in 2000.  I have neither much memory of the town nor photos..

I’ll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Pineapple Boat, Rack of Lamb with with Tomato Couscous, and Garlic Pearls, and Black Forest Cake as served on MS Prinsendam May 23, 2015,.:

A bit cooler today.  Yesterday’s consult was long.  With the Key Bridge gone I avoided the big roads and took the backroads and greatly overestimated the time needed.  I left the house at 11:30 and arrived about 1 for my 2:30 appointment.  I left the facility at 3:30, and decided to minimize my cooking so stopped at Arbys a little before getting home.  Not a lot to cheer about but they want me to do some more invasive tests which will need to be done in downtown Baltimore.  Again, with the Key Bridge out of the picture, the other roads get clogged easily and I’m not looking forward to that.

    Roy

Roy, I'm sorry you will need more invasive test and that they will need to be done downtown.  I hope they give the doctors good results or answers to how to move forward for a successful outcome.

Good morning and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  Have never liked taffy, best friend in law????, but turtles - oh, how I love them.  Meal sounds good, no on the drink and wine, I probably passed Baie-Comeau on my way down the St Lawrence, and what a day in history.  Now, about the quote:  I had to do some research and after doing so, I think I agree -

The phrase 'Life must be lived as play' by Plato is an influential concept in philosophy. It suggests that life should not be filled with hardship and seriousness, but rather, it must be enjoyed as if it were a gameThe saying carries with it the flavor of a modern therapeutic counsel to lighten up, to let the small things roll off, and to partake of life freely, enthusiastically, and enjoyably.

Beautiful day here with the windows and door open, ceiling fans a blazing.  High of maybe mid 90s.  So it will be a beautiful day for my outdoor project.  As I am sure most can tell, I am very independent; my philosophy is if you can do it then so can I.  I.E - I completely redid my bathroom in my old house - tearing up floors, walls, bathtub, toilet, redoing plumbing, etc - and redid it all by myself - well, except tearing out the bathtub as it was cast iron and I couldn't do that.  It took a year and only cost me ~$1000 vs ~$15k and I had the best time, albeit with cuts and bruises, though I came up against several obstacles along the way - such as the tub I bought was too high for the piping so I had to redo the faucet pipes.  I researched and got on contractor's forums, asked questions, etc.  So I love DYI.

That being said, I came across an obstacle installing my gate lock; the space to screw it in has a wood block piece on the gate in the way.  I have a Dewalt drill and I found a flexible right angle attachment that will give me a way to install it.  🙂 Plan on getting that today (and maybe a sander) and 🤞 it works.

Pennie, thanks for the information about the Plato quote.  I suspected it was something like that, and I agree with the quote, even if life isn't always without hardship.  Good luck on your projects.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

Per ger_77's definition: Since BFF's best friend is me, am I my own best friend in law? Turtles are important and need to be protected. I'm not a taffy fan, even though growing up at the shore, there was always saltwater taffy at the boardwalk. Good quote. The meal sounds good. Pass on the drink and the wine. I haven't been to Baie-Comeau. A good day in history.

It's another warm and sunny day here, with some possible thunderstorms this afternoon. I guess I was exhausted after yesterday's exertions in caretaking. I ate dinner and had a Mike's hard lemonade with it. Then I got in the recliner to watch some shows on my DVR. The next thing I know I awaken and it's 11:30, so I go upstairs to bed. According to my Fitbit, I slept a total of 9h25m! I feel good after that. And talking to BFF, he fell asleep in his recliner after I left, until about 11:30 and then went to bed and slept another 5 hours. I'm going to just relax today if I can.

So, the 2026 NFL draft will be here! The city is very excited.

@smitty34877 Happy Birthday to Tana! So nice that the teenager's girlfriend will be giving Tana a preview of her prom dress. Prayers that medical research will come up with new treatments to help Tana. I hope your power stays on.

    @MrSnuffleupagus Safe travels today.

@doobieb All these tornadoes are quite frightening! I'm glad you were safe.

@cat shepard I hope Bindi passes her physical with flying colors.

@dfish So sad about the family dynamics. River is lucky to have you and Sue to give her some stability. Thanks for the recipes.

    @superoma Your flowers are beautiful.

@aliaschief Thanks for sharing your visit to Las Palmas.

@RMLincoln Continued prayers for the success of DH's eye treatments. And so nice to hear that your girlfriend from NM will be closer now.

@ger_77 I am so glad to hear that Maurice's surgery went well. I hope all the tests go well today. Antibiotic prophylaxis for any dental procedure is pretty common after valve replacement. Nice of your DSIL to provide dinner tonight. I know that adrenaline crash!

@rafinmd I'm sorry to hear they want some more invasive tests to check out your heart; prayers they all go well.

@Haljo1935 Interesting that you need antibiotics because of the ankle hardware. I wonder if BFF will too? I'll have to ask at his 3 week check up. Lots on your plate with the shoulder and the knee issues.

    @Overhead Fred Lovely photo.

    @Copper10-8 Great memes!

@durangoscots Wow on your friend needing to get rid of 1500 books!

@luvteaching Have a great visit with your DM.

@Nickelpenny Thanks for the interpretation of today's quote. I'm impressed by your DYI. I used to do a lot, now at this age it's renovation by checkbook, LOL. The problem is finding competent and honest contractors any more.

    @bennybear Great turtle photos.

@Sharon in AZ I love Call The Midwife! Being late to it, I had to binge about 10 seasons to catch up last year.

@kazu I hope you're getting the tests to finally figure out what can help your foot.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating.

Vanessa, I'm glad both you and BFF got a good night's sleep.  It was probably just what you both needed.

    Happy birthday to @smitty34877’s Tana!!

The boys are having a wonderful time here at Great Wolf Lodge. Lots of water time and that’s what those two water bugs love.

DH and I are patting ourselves on the back for booking a cabana where we can relax and the boys have a place to come rest and eat.

    No resting yet, though!

I was pleased with my labs yesterday except for the A1C. Everything else improved, even my kidney function. But the fact that I didn’t get as much exercise on the cruise as I do at home (heat and humidity in Australia, South Pacific etc) and it showed. So back to the regimen!

Foot is not happy with it all but there’s not much I can do about it.  It all has to be dealt with and there’s only one of us.

  2. Good morning from central Texas where it is 74F with 100% humidity and a dew point of 73F.  It is cloudy, and we should be seeing more thunderstorms beginning about 1pm and lasting until late evening.  Our predicted high is 84F with 10+mph winds again.  In other words, another fun spring day in Texas.  To add to the fun, I'll be cleaning house today.

Sadly, my sister-in-law died suddenly at 59 a little more than 14 years ago.  With two crowns, one implant and two implants in the works, I'll skip the taffy, but DH would have some if there was any in the house.  World Turtle Day is the best day to honor, and we should do all we can to help save the turtles.

An interesting quote from Plato that I'll have to think about.

The meal looks good for another day.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have not been to today's port.

The formation of the Republic of Germany in 1949 was the beginning of today's modern Germany.

@MrSnuffleupagus  Safe travels to Vancouver today.  Enjoy your cruise on Koningsdam.

@dfish  Debbie, I'm sorry for Sue, River and especially great grandmother about the birthday party.  I hope Sue and Rive and celebrate with great grandmother another day soon.  Life's too short for all the drama some people manage to do.

  5. The really bad storm with high winds went south of us, but that didn’t mean we didn't get rain.  We also got another hail storm a while ago.  The hail was smaller than yesterday, but a lot more of it.  The hail and pounding rain were extremely loud on the metal roof.  It is thundering again, so I guess we'll get more rain.  According to the forecast, the rain will taper off after midnight, and then pick up about noon tomorrow until about 8pm.

Good evening. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

3 good days to recognize. Meh on the quote. I like the meal, maybe on the drink and yes to the wine. I've been to San Diego on a land trip many years ago. I used to watch Carson all the time.

It's warm and sunny, although storms were supposed to start this afternoon. Yesterday when I got home after the long day, I started feeling odd.  My arms felt heavy and then I started seeing spots in front of my eyes and felt faint. I even put my head down toward my knees, which helped.  I hadn't eaten much of anything all day other than coffee. So I added Liquid IV to a bottle of water, thinking the electrolytes would help. Then I ate something. I felt better the rest of the evening. I went to bed and was out quickly, then awakened around 2am with a dreaded thigh muscle cramp, which I massaged, and finally fell back asleep until 7:30. Then on awakening, I felt my left eye was having a uveitis flare, as it was red and sensitive to light. This AM I took some groceries to DH's house, before heading to the hospital. He was discharged early afternoon. He's never had any major surgery before, and the pain he's feeling is a surprise to him. I did a few things around his house, and now am home. I will rest tomorrow, and go visit him on Friday.

So sad to hear of the tornado damage and loss of life.

@ger_77 Prayers for Maurice that his procedure was successful.

@kazu I hope the surgeon can come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan. OMG about Ivan being attacked by another dog! I hope Ivan is ok, physically and psychologically.

@ottahand7 Oh my on your poor DB being on antibiotics since his knee replacement. Once "hardware" gets infected, it usually needs to be removed to get rid of the infection.

    @Quartzsite Cruiser Excellent photos.

@Nickelpenny Yes, plates and screws for the tib/fib. The surgeon is a trauma surgeon, so I have high hopes for a good recovery and have told BFF he must obey the rules.

@Vict0riann That animal park looks like a great place.

@cruising sister The grandkids are adorable.

    @bennybear Gorgeous San Diego photos.

@Cruising-along Great photo of you two with the boys! Have a great time.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Vanessa, I'm sorry you felt bad yesterday and your eye is flaring.  I imagine the stress of the last few days didn't help.  I'm glad BFF is home and doing well, but sorry he is experiencing a lot of pain.

Long day today-the kittens played all day, and are now sound asleep.  Turnip sleeps on the wicker sofa, two are now sleeping in the cat barrel and Jersey sleeps with her momma.  I worked 3 hours with the California campaign, got a sale within the first hour, and another in the second hour, and close but no banana for the third hour.  I took an hour off, and then put in my 5 hours with the Ohio campaign, and got two sales so for me, not a bad day.  But thankful for not having to work for commission, as it pays low for both campaigns.

Same hours for tomorrow and then I will be off on Friday!  We are going to either go to a museum or a walk in the park.  Come home and make spaghetti with italian sausage, but I have no idea what we will eat tomorrow.  My old schedule would have allowed me time to make a decent meal, tonight i made some veggie nachos, and gelato.  I was hoping to make shrimp curry with veggies tomorrow...Guess that will be a Saturday meal, and yes I am working on Memorial Day, and yes, people told me to call them on Memorial Day.

  6. A bit of good news today.  DH's new passport arrived today, but without the passport card.  They are probably sending it separately.  This was a real fast turnaround.  The application was mailed on May 7 and received at the acceptance center on May 9, which means it took about two weeks.

My passport and passport card are taking a bit longer, but that is due to my losing the passport card.  When that happens, once the loss is reported, the card and the passport are canceled immediately.  Then, you have to fill out an application for a new passport and card instead of a renewal.  I know they received the application on May 8 and are going over the paperwork.  So patience is the order of the day.

    Good afternoon,

It's overcast and breezy but it's better than the rain we had yesterday! Friday is the next day with rain predicted. Thankfully tomorrow is supposed to be decent because I'm heading across the border to visit DM. She's almost 98 and a going concern. She has several errands for us to do and then go out for lunch. She's very independent!

Today was a quick morning and had to head to town for the pool. I got in the water at 9:20 and out at noon. The first class is an energetic aerobics class and the second is an arthritis class with about 30 minutes between them. I really enjoy both of them and I should sleep tonight! I stopped and put gas in the car and then stopped at Starbucks and got $5.00 gift cards for my grads.

The rest of the day is getting everything ready to take to BC tomorrow, doing a load of laundry, and trying to make order out of my chaos. I'll leave about 9:00 tomorrow morning and probably not home until 8:00 tomorrow night.

@ger_77 Hope all is going well with Maurice

@kazu Take care of yourself and Ivan!

  7. Good afternoon from an increasingly cloudy central Texas.  It looks like the rain will be here about 5 pm and will be off and on tonight and into the morning.  We are under a tornado watch, but that is typical of thunderstorms this time of year.

I finally called W-M about my prescription, and even though the web-site said they were filling it, they weren't.  The lady said they could have it ready in 30-45 minutes, and I said I'd be there in 45 to 60 minutes.  I wanted to get there and back before the bad weather arrived which was supposed to be about 2 or 3.  If I hadn't called, I'd probably still be waiting.

We have been to SD many times connected with cruises, and twice on driving trips.  My DD cousin and her DH  - also DD now, once took us to the Wild Animal Park, which is the most amazing place - the way every zoo should be.  The enclosures for the animals are huge, we also had the good fortune to have a walk with a cheetah and her friend, a dog.   It is out of town, but well worth a visit!

  8. This is what I posted on September 17, 2021.

We have been to San Diego many times, and DH lived there in the 1950s for a short time.  The town has really changed and grown since then.  When the DDs were little, we spent a couple of days there in our motorhome, and visited the zoo.  Since then, it has been a cruise port, a turnaround day or we embarked or disembarked.  I thought I had more pictures of the town, but they must be pre-digital.

In 2009, we drove by the house DH lived in, and it was in the process of being flipped and enlarged.

We were able to wander through it, and they were doing a nice job.  Unfortunately, five years later, the new owners had really junked it up.

In 2016, we had a port day while on the Ruby Princess.  We walked down to the Midway and spent quite a bit of time exploring the ship.  Here are just two of the pictures, but it is worth a visit.

  9. These pictures were from our 11/14-12/12/21 cruise.  All were taken from the Koningsdam either while we were in port, at the sailaway parties or as we sailed down the channel between North Island and the submarine base on the way to Point Loma.

When we sailed on 11/28, it was a sunny day looking toward the San Diego skyline, and the skyline picture above was taken that day.  As we turned to pass between North Island and the bluff leading to Point Loma, a fog bank moved in, then it was clear before we reached the point.  I've never seen anything like it when we've sailed out of San Diego.

The ferry dock between the area around the sub base and either North Island or downtown.  The leading edge of the fog bank was approaching the area.

The fog bank. We could not see the area where the drydock used to work on submarines was.

This last picture is Point Loma and the sunset as we sailed into the Pacific on 11/14.  As you can see, we had an obstructed balcony, and it was almost impossible to take a picture without part of the lifeboat included.

  10. Good morning from another cloudy day in Central Texas.  It is already 79F with a predicted high of 88F.  The humidity is 98 percent with a dewpoint of 76F.  We also have a flood warning beginning this morning through early Friday morning.  The rain and thunderstorms will start about 3 pm, and there is a risk of high winds, hail and tornados, but that is always a risk with thunderstorms in Texas during the spring.

All of today's days are worth celebrating.  I always try to be myself.  Harvey Milk was a LGBTQ pioneer, and I wonder how much more he could have accomplished if he'd lived.  Biological diversity is important for the planet's health which is important to our health.

The Helen Rowland quote is amusing, but I'm don't agree with it.

The meal sounds good, but we'll pass.  The drink and wine are worth a try.

We have been to San Diego many times, but mostly to board a ship.  Occasionally, we've had it as a turnaround day or even a port day.

Johnny Carson's last show in 1992 was a sad day for late night tv.

@ger_77  Gerry, I hope all goes well for your DH today, and that he will cover nicely and regain his strength and stamina.  Remember to take care of yourself too.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I hope both you and BFF had a restful night, and that he will be discharged today.

@grapau27  Graham, I appreciate all the information about the days that you find and share.  Thank you.

@Mr. Boston  Safe travels to and from Portland.  I  hope you find what you're looking for.

@kazu  Jacqui, I'm sorry the vicious dog attacked Ivan.  I hope he's all right and that the attack did not scare him from walking.  I'm glad you reported the man and his dog.  I also hope the CT scan will give the doctor some answers to what is going on with your foot.

@puppycanducruise  Melanie, thank you for the pictures of the beautiful flowers.

@Haljo1935  Elizabeth, I hope the surgeon is in the office today, and that you get some good news.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, safe travels to and from Hilton Head, and I hope your DH's appointment goes well.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I agree.  Please take the cold medicine.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope you follow the advice to report your "friend" to the higher ups at the community center.  He needs an attitude adjustment or to go.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope you and Tana can get some rest this afternoon and that tonight is much better.

@marshhawk  Annie, congratulations on the sale.

Sandi, @StLouisCruisers  I'll post the links tomorrow.  I've already looked up the links for tomorrow and more of the days ahead.  Thanks for the heads up on the days.

  11. Texas weather is known for being weird, but this afternoon, it got even weirder.  A while after the hail, it rained twice but while I heard it and smelled it, I couldn't see it.  It was like really low verga with only a very few drops hitting the driveway.  DH said later that we were under a hail warning.  Now, I'm glad the prescriptions weren't ready, or I clould have been driving in the hail.

  13. Good afternoon from a pleasant but cloudy central Texas.  We both enjoyed our donuts this morning, and have enough for two more days.  We've also gotten a couple of chores out of the way.  Will probably be heading to W-M later this afternoon to finally pick up the prescriptions.  It turns out they did not go through when they were called in yesterday, but they were called in quickly after I called the dentist's office.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!   We've had a lot of false raptures - Y2K, the Mayan Calendar, etc.; if/when it happens, there's not a whole lot anyone will be able to do about it, so go ahead and enjoy life.  I need a patch that will do all my housework/spring cleaning for me - anyone got an idea where I can buy one?  I make tea for us every morning; in fact, I told DH I had to book another cruise because I was out of Bigelow's I Love Lemon tea that I normally drink on a BHB.  He just rolled his eyes, so I ordered more from Amazon.

We've got a grey, cloudy, rainy day in the offing today.  Because we heard it was only going down to +3 overnight, we decided to leave all the plants on the deck last night rather than bringing them all into the house.  We closed all the windows and closed the heavy curtains, hoping that would suffice to keep the heat in - as I look out this morning, everyone looks happy out there, and it's still raining, so it means it didn't freeze overnight.

Yesterday, to get DH out of the house, we took a drive to a couple of grocery run pop-up greenhouses to see what we could find.  I drove around all of them so DH could get a good idea what was there and if he saw anything that piqued his interest, I went to inspect.  It turned out to be a good method, because at the end of a couple of hours we had the back of the Ford Escape filled with plants and now we just have to wait for good weather so I can put them in our outdoor pots.

Thanks for your thoughts on DH; he had a bit of a cough yesterday morning, but that was it for the majority of the day.  He's been continuing with the Tetley Immune Tea, oranges and zinc, and hopefully he's got it under control.  I didn't hear him cough last night, but that's not unusual - I sleep like the dead most nights.  I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a "go" for his valve replacement.

@JazzyVyou're going to be a tired girl by the end of the day; would you consider heading out to your car and having a nap later, rather than sitting in a hospital waiting room?

@kazusending prayers for answers about your foot today.

@Heartgrovethanks for the photo of Sam yesterday; although I'm more of a cat person, I can see why you love him so much - I would, too!

@StLouisCruiserssorry to hear you've got a cold - like you need that on a cruise!

@ottahand7the other day you mentioned vole damage; this winter we had voles create a mess on our front, side and back lawns.  We've been in our house for 41 years and have never had them before - I've bought lawn seed to cover the patches they carved out and will have to figure out what to put on the lawn before next winter so they don't come back.  I've heard that garlic water deters them, but that would involve lots of garlic!  LOL

@Haljo1935good luck at the doctor's today.

@Quartzsite CruiserI'm glad you had a good number of hours of sleep - hopefully the extra pain meds keep you comfortable.

Not much on our agenda today, just kicking around - DH will work on his book, I'll do some laundry and work on more blankets.  I counted up and I've got another 15 ready to go whenever I decide to take them over to the distribution centre.  I'm not sure about the drink of the day, will let others enjoy the wine, but I do like the recipes for today's menu suggestion.  We eat a lot of salmon, so looking at the recipes, I'm going to thaw a couple of filets and will likely make the second recipe, accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans that we'll enjoy at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in pain, in grief, in need and in the paths of destructive storms or fires.  Cheers to all who have celebrations happening today.

    Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️

    Gerry

Gerry, I'm glad your DH is doing better, and you could get out of the house yesterday. Best wishes for the valve replacement tomorrow.

Happy to celebrate first solo flights across Atlantic, both Lindbergh and A.E!  Risk-taking pioneers paved the way!

Yesterday’s eye doctor visit was pretty good. We’re not “there” yet but hanging in. He said eye is healing well, the new drain is open and flowing, pressure is not as low as desired, after one more week start tapering down the steroids, stay at current regime for now. Hoping it’ll all stabilize lower but it might not be as low as the other eye, which is doing great!  Might have to consider a pressure-lowering med but we’ll wait on that decision. Return 2 weeks. We’re not giving up!  Vanessa, I think keeping DH on the rotation is appropriate. Thanks all for your Amazing support!

Sunday was totally consumed with looking at travel options for my 70th. Started with Ireland tours, then looked at cruises. We put a Hold on a cruise in July/August for the next-to-last cabin that could be selected, not a guarantee, but it didn’t feel joyful. We talked the whole thing through over dinner and late into the night… and let it evaporate. It was an OV, not a good price, not a good time…. what was I thinking?  I dunno, it was all very confusing. DH was so caring helping me sort through unexpected feelings!  But through it all we now have a new PCC so maybe that’ll be a good thing for the future.  We might consider a regional trip. Right now cruising just feels too difficult to get to, far too pricey, too far away!  Last September we went on an Eastern Canada cruise (missed all New England ports due to hurricanes) and struggled to get Wi-Fi connections to track eye pressure readings- tonometer needs Wi-Fi. But we were close to land and managed well enough albeit sporadically. We’ll wait to cruise till the timing is right.

Saturday we found our way to the Newark Performing Arts Center to hear Beethoven’s 3rd. Great music!  Nice venue!  Not too hard to get to and from. It was a “family” concert with good explanations between movements, interesting. But Family meant kids shrieking and screaming, plus the constant parade of parents walking kiddos out and in, and I do mean constant parade- very distracting. So we’re not doing that again. BUT we discovered the NJ-PAC sends a bus to our community for those with subscriptions for their Thursday matinee symphonies!  And the bus charge about equals the parking garage fee we paid, such a deal!  We’ll sign up for next season, starts November.

Following along with all the Dailyites. Lifting up everyone’s needs and hopes. Vanessa and your BFF, Jacqui, Gerry and Maurice, Pennie, Jack’s Sam (oh, I coujd hear his tumble 😱), Elizabeth, Shiel, Annie and Chuck, Terry and Tana, Terri and Jim, Lenda, Sandi, Debbie, Susan… all! (I can keep you all in my heart if not in my brain❤️) from the tops of our heads to the tips of our toes…. situations of loss, anxiety, frustration, despair or danger. Praying for Amazing!  Not giving up!
Hugs to you all, near and far for a good day, and lots of healing, comfort and hope!  Peace in our hearts, families and countries.

Love all the pictures!  Graham, I absorb your beach!
Terry, I too made my prom dress, twice! I hope they have a memorable time!  They sound like very special kids, loving and caring!  You’re doing good things for them and the world! (like the quote says…)
Nancy, sorry about the iris bed, glad the house systems are coming “up” ok!  Always a bit of concern.

Wonderful to hear of celebrations, reminding us all that Life is Good!  🌈

Oh yes, keep the seat belt on even if the sign is off!  Tragic. We all expect to walk off a flight, it’s so much safer than driving to the doctor!

    Hug you all, m—

Maureen, yesterday's doctor visit still sounds like the eye is improving and healing.  I hope in two weeks, the pressure is low enough to avoid a pressure lowering medicine.  Sorry the concert was not the best environment.

Good morning and Happy Tuesday. It’s a bright sunshiny day.

Yesterday DM had a dental appointment and always takes antibiotics prior to the appointment. Somehow the home health must have discarded what she had left and she called the dentist office. They wanted her to come in Asap to take it there so that was a scramble to get ready quickly and pick her up. I ended up running errands since the wait was longer. We went to lunch at a seafood restaurant because we wanted lobster but I was also craving meat so ordered surf and turf with a filet as the turf. What came was not edible and not a filet. After alerting our server the manager came over and said he inspects all the beef each day, and even though he never said it I knew he didn’t believe me nor think I knew what I was talking about. I was beyond irritated. Goodness, it wasn’t even cut like a filet. After offers of a new steak I just asked for the steak charge to be taken off. Turns out they couldn’t do that so we ended up getting the entire entree taken off. Then, a new steak shows up, and it’s a filet!  Soft as butter and cooked perfectly. We packaged it up and I’m having it for lunch today. I am still ticked off about the whole thing. I’m going to write the restaurant and tell them that this manager not only needs better customer service skills but needs to go to cooking school and learn more about cuts of meat.

Okay, sorry, off my soapbox. I hope everyone has a great day!

Sharon, I don't blame you for being upset yesterday at lunch.  There's not much worse than a ruined steak.  That manager needs to be retrained in customer service.

    Good Tuesday morning.

i was awake at 6 am. Was watching Morning Joe and DH was still asleep.  The plan was to call him at 7:30 am so that we would be ready for the Power Washing guy at 9 am.

Well, at 7:15 am the doorbell rings and guess who?

I was still in my jammies and bathrobe.  Anyway, he was ready to start and since this was an outside job, I let him get started.  He was all done by 10:15 am.

All the porch furniture is back in place as well.

DH was not happy to get up early,

So all is nice and clean and the ACC should be happy.  I already sent the Email to let them know it is done.  Don’t want to be fined.

Next job for today is to get ready for DH’s appointment with the Dermatologist at 3:30.  Have to go to the supermarket as well.

@JazzyV Hope all goes well for BFF today.  Prayers for him and his surgeon.

    Got to get moving.

    Have a good day everyone,

    God Bless,

Terri, I'm glad the power washing was done, but why can't workers show up at the appointed time not before or after.

I’m praying all goes well for those healing and for Maurice tomorrow! And for Jacqui today!

@RMLincoln you have struck a chord with me a few times lately.  I so agree about the joy, sometimes it’s not there as travel gets more complicated.  And sometimes it’s the timing.  We chose to cancel a cruise after so many changes and it has been nothing but a hassle,  yesterday we received a cheque for DH FCD,  and now when we checked all have disappeared. Sigh, a phone call I don’t want to make.  We even decided to drive home for 12 hours after our recent one hour flight stretched to eight hours.  I’m hoping you find the right thing and the right time.  For us,  Hawaii is our heaven.  We celebrated a birthday and anniversary there, albeit delayed.

@Sharon in AZ sometimes customer service attitude makes all the difference!  Don’t blame you for being so annoyed,  it should have been made right initially.

have to head out as we get some rare sun, back to rain tomorrow.  Haven’t even got our plants yet!

So, I'm 0 for 2 this morning  - shoulder surgeon was not in (he's at the hospital) so they told me to come back tomorrow and the tire had to be replaced.

The good news is I got a wild hair and called the tree🌳 removal guy; he was only a few blocks away and came right over. He's able to get us on the schedule in less than a month, likely 2ish weeks depending on how much room he has on the trailers when he's near us. I told him I'd be flexible and to fit us in w/whatever works in his schedule. I understand all the rain has really messed everyone up and I appreciate his partnership. So, I guess the Universe traded me time w/an Ortho for an Arborist- it knows the damage the trees are causing to the roof & gutters. Silver lining?🤷‍♀️ I'll take my wins where I can find them.

Elizabeth, I'm sorry the surgeon was not in, and I hope you get good news tomorrow.  And sorry about needing a new tire.  I hope you can get the tree work done soon.

  14. The second stop on our tour of New Britain Island and Rabaul was the Kokopo War Museum.   Kokopo was named the capital of NB after the 1994 eruption and it is down the coast road from Rabaul.  The museum over looks a beach resort.  Rabaul is a tourist destination with resorts, snorkeling and other activities.  Before heading to the museum, we got a look at the resort and an opportunity for shopping.

It turns out, our final stop was on the side of the road on the way back to Rabaul.  Our van had a flat tire, and it took a while to get it changed.  Ironically, we had to change vans before we left the port as the first van had a flat tire.  I can attest that the spare might have come from "A Christmas Story" since I had a good view of it on the tour.  The spare tire was hanging from the back of the front seat just in front of me.

  15. On June 11, 2005, the Pacific Princess docked in Rabaul located on New Britain Island, which is part of Papua New Guinea.  Until the 1994 eruption of the two volcanos which buried the town, it was the capital of New Britain Island.  Since 1994, Vulcan has been quiet, but Tavurvur has been active.  In 2005, Tavurvur was sending out ash, which covered the streets and the ship.  After the 1994 eruption, the ash was about 15 feet deep in places, and they plowed a path through the ash to open the coast road, leaving high walls of ash on either side.

In WWII, New Britain Island was never retaken from the Japanese.  Instead, the US captured the islands that ringed NB, and opened airfields and Navy bases on the island.  This resulted in cutting the Japanese supply line to NB and ending any Japanese military activity.

As I said earlier, I have a lot of pictures from Rabaul and our tour of the island, and I'll divide the pictures into two posts.

These pictures are of the town from the ship, and the dancers that greeted our arrival.

  16. Good morning from a cloudy central Texas.  I think I'm beginning to sound like a broken record again with the cloudy skies.  It is already 76F with 92% humidity and a dew point of 73F.  Our predicted high is 89F with 10+mph winds.  Our rains will return tomorrow night and also Thursday and Friday nights.  I'm glad I got the yard work, plus the house and driveway washing finished this weekend.  Not much on today's agenda except catching up on some things on the computer.  I'll probably get doughnuts for breakfast since they are softer and easier to chew than my cereal or toast.  At least, that's a good excuse.  If and when the prescriptions from the dentist's office are ready, I'll head to W-M to pick them up.  I got about 8 hours sleep last night thanks to the pain med that makes you sleepy, but it wore off about 4:30.  I took some ibuprofen in the larger dose the dentist recommended and got another 2 1/2 hours sleep.  Right now, I am still not hurting and have just a bit of swelling, so it will be the ice pack again today for the swelling.  It was recommended that I sleep with my head elevated above my heart to help keep the swelling to a minimum, and I managed to sleep with two pillows.

Two of the days will be honored, but not the first one.  That is something that should not be predicted.  Patches are very useful.  I hope the working conditions for the tea workers are humane now.

The quote is interesting and one we could aspire to achieve.

The meal sounds good, but today I think I'll finish the mac and cheese and jello from last night to play it safe.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We visited Rabaul in 2005 as part of the Pacific Princess Islands of the Pacific Theater cruise.  I have a lot of pictures to share as we had a very interesting day on the island.

@MISTER 67  Congratulations on a great day yesterday in spite of your knees.

@grapau27  Graham, thank you for the great explanations of all the days.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I hope you get over your cold soon.  Thanks for the pictures from Rabaul.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, best wishes for a successful surgery for BFF today.

@ger_77  Gerry, I hope your DH is well enough for his surgery today, and that it is successful, with a quick recovery.

@Heartgrove  Jack, I'm glad Sam is showing no ill effects from his fall, and I bet since it's getting warmer, he is glad to get rid of his winter coat.  Congratulations on booking the winter cruise.

@ottahand7  Nancy, glad you are just about settled in for the summer.

@1ANGELCAT  Such a sad story about the Singapore airline flight and the one killed and so many injured.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope the teenager and his girlfriend have a great time at her prom.

@kazuJacqui, I hope you get some answers at the appointment today, and that the drive is not too difficult.

@Haljo1935  Elizabeth, I hope your appointment with the surgeon goes well today.

  17. Good afternoon.  I survived the dentist visit, but have been taking it easy since I got home.  I've said before, I really like my dentist, and I'm so glad he does implants and I don't have to go to Waco.  Originally he planned to pull the two teeth and put in the bone graft material.  After he administered the three shots of anesthetic, he asked if I wanted the implants done too if there was enough healthy bone.  Naturally, I said yes.  He checked the x-rays from my last visit, and found he could do the implants too.  That will save one visit.

The dentist is good and fast.  Once he started, it was less than 30 minutes before the teeth were out, the bone graft material and the implants were in, and he'd finished with the stitches.  I go back in a week for them to check the incision site, but otherwise, that's it until late August.  I'm still bleeding, probably a bit more that I should be, but I think I did something to dislodge the clot.  I also learned something new.  If the dental gauze does not stop the bleeding, moisten a tea bag and put it on the wound.  The tannins in the tea help promote clotting.  It was interesting since the only tea bags I have family size.  I know I have a big mouth, but it's not that big.  Right now, I'm not keeping anything in my mouth and seeing how that goes.  I think the bleeding is slowing down.

I'm still partially numb which makes drinking fun.  I almost need a bib. I'm just glad the worst is behind me.  The Dental tech showed me the extracted teeth, but I told her they could keep them.  I doubt the tooth fairy would visit me at my age anyway.

Good morning. Got back from the dog shows yesterday evening and picked up the dogs on the way home. They seemed happy to see me, but they do like the excitement of boarding. The shows went well without incident but I am tired. I think this will be the last year I will go down to Farmington to work them. Just too much of a mental strain.

Weather there was hot.... in Durango it is cooler. Today's high will maybe be 70 and it was just above freezing when I walked the dogs about 6:30. It is supposed to stay that way and dry the rest of week. Flowers are slow blooming this year. I will take it for now and hope the lawn survives.

Off to unpack, do laundry and put things away in the right places. I would like the salad. Would not draw Mohammad even if I could draw. That seems to be needlessly mean suggestion.

Will try to keep up during the day.... someway I think my pace today will be slow.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I'll celebrate Eliza Doolittle, will respect the religious beliefs and won't draw Mohammad, and have a dear friend who worked in Human Resources for most of her career - not an easy job.

Happy Victoria day to my fellow Canadians - I hope you enjoy this long weekend!

It's a cloudy, windy morning out there for us and according to the forecast, we have a 65% chance of rain today.  Last night the temperature went down to +1 so we covered the Boston fern and dipladenia that DH decided to put out yesterday; the rest of the plants came in and are hanging out in the dining room.

@Heartgroveoh my gosh, my heart hurt when I read that Sam fell down the stairs; that's sad.

@kazuplease take it easy and only do a little until you can find out exactly what's wrong with your foot!

@57redbirdI've been meaning to ask how your mouth is after your major dental implant surgery?  I hope it's healing well.

@Quartzsite Cruisergood luck to you at the dentist's this afternoon.

We heard from DH's daughter yesterday (she was flying to PV for dental work); the plane was delayed in Calgary because just before the aircraft was to depart, someone decided they didn't want to go to Mexico after all.  Who does that???  The flight was delayed 1.5 hours while they took all the luggage out to find the reluctant passenger's suitcases.  She was not impressed, nor would I have been!

Before Christmas DH and I decided that we didn't need anything, so we purchased tickets to "It's a Kinda Magic", a tribute to Queen - I bought the tickets as soon as they were available so we were able to get 2nd row from stage, directly in the middle.  Well, the concert is Friday night and I'm certainly not going to be taking DH out to mingle, push and shove at a large venue like that right after his surgery, so I'm giving the tickets to our friends Wayne and Fran.  I'm sure DH has totally forgotten that we even had them, so I'm not even going to tell him about it.  Although Wayne was insistent about paying for them, I declined, saying rather that they could take us out for dinner once Maurice was feeling better.

I will definitely accept the drink of the day (my go-to cocktail in the summer), will pass on the wine, and we have salads at least 4 times a week, often using spring mix with whatever else is in the fridge.  Wayne wanted us to come over for a burger barbecue today, but knows DH is isolating, so he said they would barbecue and deliver dinner for us tonight - how sweet is that?  I'm sure we'll enjoy whatever he and Fran cook up for us at the table on our deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, or in the path of destructive storms and fires.  Cheers to all with celebrations.

    Smooth Sailing!   ☺️☺️☺️

    Gerry

Gerry, I can't believe someone wanted off the plane at the last minute, and caused a 1 1/2 hour delay.  It's nice of Wayne and Fran are bringing you dinner tonight.  Thanks for the good wishes for this afternoon.

Good Morning to all the Dailyites!
Thank you for all the Victoria Day wishes from our American friends.

We were actually in today’s port of Miyako 3 weeks ago today. This was our first trip to Japan and loved it and the Japanese people.

On arrival at the port we had many locals out to great us, including schoolchildren and dancers. When we left many townspeople lined the port to wave us off. (Very poor picture taken from the dining room shown). This happened at multiple ports in Japan and warmed our hearts each time.
This is a small town which suffered flooding and great losses in the tsunami  of 2011. In the years since they have built amazing infrastructure to protect against this happening again.
We walked about 10 kilometres passing a lot of the new building to get to Jodogahama Beach. It was a beautiful sunny day. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of the town area.

Good luck at the dentist!  I'm 4 days out & don't look like my DH punched me in the mouth - go back on the 30th to get the sutures out.

Thanks for the good wishes.  As of right now, I don't go back for the next appointment until late August.  When I had the first implant 20 years ago, they used dissolving stitches.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily @richwmn.

Happy Victoria Day to all Canadians. I like the character Eliza Doolittle; I'm a big My Fair Lady fan. HR can be an important department, if run well. Interesting quote. I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine. I haven't been to Miyako. An important day in history.

It's partly sunny right now, and already 76F. It's going to be hot. I'm starting to gather some things to take with me tomorrow, in preparation for staying at BFF's house. It's confirmed we have to be at the hospital at 5AM! My stomach was upset yesterday and I don't know why. So I'm eating gingerly today, as I don't need that today or tomorrow. It's 4 weeks today since my back surgery! I can't see the incision, so BFF has been taking photos of it for me.

@superoma I hope your cough goes away soon.

@MISTER 67 I can commiserate with you on the knee pain. Good luck with your golf game today.

@StLouisCruisers I hope you can fight off the possible cold. Those cakes look delicious, especially the chocolate ones.

@0106 Thanks for the explanation. I've never seen South Park.

@smitty34877 I'm glad you got a bit of a break this weekend. I hope your week goes smoothly.

@kazu Don't try to do too much in the garden. Thanks for the wishes, although it's BFF that's having surgery tomorrow.

@Heartgrove I'm sorry to hear that Sam fell down the steps last night.

@ottahand7 I'm glad you had a safe and pleasant trip to the cabin.

@aliaschief I hope your lower back is feeling better soon.

@marshhawk Oh no on mama cat in heat again.

@kochleffel Sorry to hear about your back pain today and I hope the Ibuprofen works for it.

@durangoscots I'm glad you're home safely, and I'm sure the dogs were happy to see you.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Good luck at the dentist today.

@ger_77 I've not heard of someone deciding they want to get off the plane at the last minute, then inconveniencing all the other passengers by a delay. I hope Maurice is feeling better. Nice of Wayne to offer to bring dinner over.

@sunviking90 Welcome back to the Daily and thanks for sharing your photos!

@Copper10-8 Great photos and video of Eliza Doolittle.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating.

Vanessa, thanks for the good wishes today.  When DH had his back surgeries and shunt placement, I took pictures of the incisions as they healed.  I hope your stomach feels better, and I also hope BFF's surgery goes well tomorrow, and he can begin healing.  I don't envy you the 5am arrival time.  I'm glad you are staying with him for a while.

  19. HAPPY VICTORIA DAY to all our Canadian Dailyites.

Good morning from a sunny central Texas.  It is 72F with a predicted high of 88F and 10 to 15mph winds today.  Unfortunately, I'll be spending part of the afternoon at the dentist office getting two teeth pulled and starting the implant process.  I already have one implant, so I know what to expect.  This morning, I'll be making some Jello and chocolate pudding for tonight.

Two of the days today are not ones I really want to celebrate or honor, so I'll celebrate Eliza Doolittle Day.

I am one that likes the Albert Camus quote.

The spring salad could be good, but not today.  We'll pass on the drink and the wine.

We have not been to Miyako.

The 1927 flight by Charles Lindbergh helped prove the value of airplanes.

@superoma  Eva, I hope you feel better and get rid of that cough soon.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, the cakes look yummy.  Thanks for the pictures.

@0106  Tina, thanks for the explanation of draw a picture of Mohammed.

@grapau27  Graham, thanks for the explanation of Eliza Doolittle Day.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm happy your helpers made a big difference in the work load this weekend.

@kazu  Jacqui, I hope your yard work can be accomplished without too much pain from you foot.

@ottahand7  Nancy, I'm glad you and John arrived at the cabin safely yesterday.  I was sad to read about your iris bed being decimated.

@Heartgrove Jack, I'm sorry Sam fell down the stairs.

@aliaschief  I hope your back is better soon, Bruce.

  20. Good afternoon.  It is sunny but with a thin cloud layer.  The driveway is clean, and it only took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish,  That's a lot better than last year that took three days because it had been too long between cleanings.  Since our driveway slopes, it too at least two passes to get the dirt up the slope and in the street.  I need to run a few errands, and then I plan to take it easy the rest of the day.

Good morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily report.  Three nice days to recognize.  I’m also celebrating my nephew Nick who is graduating from Notre Dame as I type this!  I wish him much success in his career and life!  The quote is humorous.  I think that both the meal suggestion and drink sound like winners.  I haven’t been to today’s port. Prayers for those on our prayer list.  Cheers to those of you who are celebrating happy events! 🍾🎉

Congratulations to your nephew Nick on his graduation from Notre Dame.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  The Boys & Girls Clubs do great work for inner city children and we support them fully.  I don't think I need to be tested for hepatitis, as we've had shots for all kinds.  I had no idea what May Ray day was, thanks for the explanation.  I always enjoyed Jay Leno's humour; often it was intellectual and not vulgar at all.

The dining room table and floor are covered in plants as the forecast for last night was only +2C (35) which meant because we are a bit lower, the plants could have frozen, even on the deck.  Thankfully we haven't bought all the baskets, etc., for the yard, or we'd have had a full kitchen as well.  I think next weekend (after DH's procedure) we may go out and buy the rest of the plants that are needed.

DH's daughter and a friend are flying to Puerto Vallarta today so the DD can get dental work done (apparently it's less than half the cost, even with flights and hotels).  At 4:15 this morning I received a text from her saying they were at the airport.  Normally I turn my phone off before going to bed, but last night I forgot, so I've been awake for a while already and think a nap is in my future this afternoon.

@1ANGELCATsending prayers for your friend Shirl; it can't be easy for her or her son.  I hope she's able to have a smooth transition into a facility that will provide the care she needs.

@Cruzin Terrisorry to hear you've been under the weather, I hope you're on the road to recovery now.

@dfishI love the furniture you've chosen - along with the fire table, it makes for a very inviting place to relax at any time of the day!

@JazzyVI was thinking about how early you have to pick up BFF to get him to the hospital - would it be an option for you to stay at his place overnight, rather than getting up in the middle of the night to pick him up?

@marshhawksounds like Momma Cat is really into tough love!!!

@Mr. Bostoncongratulations to your nephew on his graduation!

Not a lot happening here, we're just going to continue with the juices, fruit, and whatever else we can to help get rid of DH's cold.  So far he's not really coughing, so that's a good thing.  I may go out for a walk to the park later this afternoon, depending on the weather.

    Walking.jpg.7a8ffedb4cee190809b02986aa08ddb8.jpg

I'd like to try the drink of the day, do enjoy Merlot, and will take down the recipe for the salmon (minus the avocado) for future reference.  DH has requested burgers for dinner, so I'll thaw some ground beef and put a couple of patties in the George Foreman that will be served along with pan fried potatoes and a side salad at the kitchen table tonight.   And wine.

    Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

    Gerry

Gerry, I hope all your TLC pays off and your DH can have his much needed surgery Tuesday.

Good morning and Happy Sunday. The ice didn’t break yesterday and probably won’t for a bit because the forecast is just for the low to mid 90’s for the next ten days.

Today we are taking our DD and her SO out for pizza along with her DS, our DGS, and my DM. This is to celebrate their birthdays and Mother’s Day that we missed. It should be fun.

Not much else happening. I make a salmon bowl occasionally and I think I’ve posted the recipe before but here it is again. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/salmon-and-veggie-grain-bowl-3409067
It uses faro instead of rice which I think makes it much better. You can use any grain you like or cauliflower rice like Debbie @dfishsuggested.

    Have a great day everyone!

Sharon, what a great way to celebrate birthdays and Mother's Day.  Enjoy your pizza and family.

Happy Sunday morning to all and thanks for the daily and fleet report.  I think almost every day here in AZ we celebrate May Ray Day and I will toast the other 2 days.  I smiled at the quote.  The meals sounds good, I think I had the Caipirnha on my Amazon River Cruise so I could try the Caipiroska.  Wine sounds good and I have not been to the port. Interesting day in history.

    IMG_7828.thumb.JPG.8c61ea2afbc8a38020de3dbb61f82c36.JPG

Had a good day yesterday.  I drove to the PO as I had a box to mail (it was a bucal swab for an Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry GeneMatch).  A little slow getting in and out of the car (and differently than I normally get in and out) but it was nice to get behind the wheel.  I noticed when I got home, though, someone had come into my little patio at some time and took my clothes soap - but not my dryer sheets (my W&D are outside) - and had taken the stuff I had in a storage container (gardening stuff, bird feed, and cat food) out and taken the container!!!  I didn't notice anything else missing but I just felt violated and really ticked me off.  So I ordered a gate lock and a battery operated motion light from A.  One will arrive today and the other tomorrow.  We will see if I can install the light myself or.............🤷‍♀️

    IMG_7829.thumb.JPG.1d015ee380bd15190f2e37fd3156e442.JPG

Today, I will try to get out and do some walking.  The goal is to be able to walk a mile by time I have my post op appt on May 29th.  I have walking sticks and I think I will take them to the river walk we have here.  We will see if I complete that task today.  Or maybe the farmer's market.

@dfish I love the patio furniture!!  Thoughts for those on the care list and cheers for those celebrating!  Have a great day everyone.

Pennie, I'm glad your recovery is going so well after a rough start.  Please be careful and don't over do.  Yikes 😱 on someone invading your private space and stealing from you.  I hope the lock and the light will be a good deterrent for the future.  You might want to mention the invasion to the management of your apartment.

Thanks to all for commenting on our wedding anniversary. We hope to continue to celebrate all year long as our special anniversary dinner at a favorite restaurant was a bust. A long wait for a table, restaurant was out of our favorite dinner (salmon) & loud, rude couples at the next table.

Thanks to those “stay at home” pandemic days with time to study the cruise catalogs, we booked a cruise on Oceania’s Marina, London-London later in the summer. Looking forward to 45 days of delicious dinners!

Thank you, Graham for the link to the sermon today. Prayers and kindness to all.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I'll salute the boys and girls club. Testing for hepatitis is important, to prevent long-term liver disease. I didn't know what May Ray Day was, until Graham's explanation. I don't think the quote is funny. I'll pass on the meal (fish), maybe for the drink, and yes to the wine. I haven't been to the Conflict Islands PNG. A good day in history.

It's going to be pretty warm and sunny here today. It's already 76F. I slept pretty well last night. I made an early quick trip to Aldi for a few things. There were people all around my neighborhood; I thought the annual garage sale was yesterday, but it's two days I guess. I'm going to rest up again, as my knee and shoulder are bothering me. The shoulder from using the cane to go up stairs and putting a lot of weight on it; my right leg is still weak for stairs, and I need clearance before I can go back to PT. BFF has said I only need to stay with him until evening after his surgery; I told him I'd not be happy if he needed help during the night and I wasn't there, so no deal. He stayed with me for 2 weeks after my surgery!

@grapau27 Thanks for The link and also the explanation of Ray Day.

@StLouisCruisers I hope you get to visit Cobh; it's a lovely city I visited last year on my TA.

@MISTER 67 Welcome back, and I'm glad you had a good cruise.

    @RedneckBob Good one!

@1ANGELCAT Prayers for Shirl. It's a difficult issue. I was lucky that when my DM could no longer live alone, she didn't object to me bringing her from NJ to PA.

@Cruzin Terri I'm sorry to hear that you're still not feeling well. Prayers for a complete recovery soon.

@dfish Congrats on defeating the furniture and getting it assembled. Your deck and patio look great!

@marshhawk I hope the days ahead get a bit easier.

@Quartzsite Cruiser You've been very industrious with all the cleaning you're doing; where do you get the energy for all that?

@Mr. Boston Congratulations to your nephew Nick! 🎓

@ger_77 That's a thought. I'd been contemplating having to get up around 3:15 am (going to bed at 9, but who knows if I could sleep?). It's about a 25 minute drive to his house, but at 4 am should be faster. Prayers that DH's cold won't delay his surgery.

@RMLincoln Good luck with your travel planning.

@Sharon in AZ Enjoy the time out with family and pizza.

@Nickelpenny I'm glad you're doing well. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks after the surgery, and it's still somewhat uncomfortable at the incision site against the seat back (I keep changing the position of it). Oh my on someone stealing from you; you're right to feel violated. I don't have anything outside much, but I do have cameras all around the outside of the house, and a motion detector floodlight on the garage.

@Norseh2o Sorry to hear your Anniversary dinner wasn't what it should have been. Enjoy the cruise later this summer.

@kazu Prayers for an answer for your foot pain.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Vanessa, I guess I'm lucky that I'm still able to do a lot of things.  Often, it's because I don't like to pay someone to do what I am capable of doing.  Also, as far as the yard, I haven't found anyone who will do it the way I want it done.  When we're not here we do pay a neighbor to mow and trim.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind comments about our new patio furniture.  We are thrilled!

@JazzyV I think you are correct in wanting to stay with BFF the night after surgery.  That is the usual recommendation anyways.  I had to fudge a bit when I had the parathyroid gland surgery as Sue wasn't here full time yet.  That was a very easy surgery and they did recommend that someone be here overnight.

@1ANGELCAT Poor Shirl.  None of us want to recognize that we could reach that point, but it does happen. My BIL's mother was that way.  And she was very distrustful of BIL.

@Nickelpenny What a low thing to do - steal someone's laundry supplies.  Sometimes it is surprising who the person is that does that.  I think the lock and light will help.  Glad to hear that your recovery is moving along well.  You want to be well for November 2025!

@Cruzin Terri I hope you are feeling better soon.   Don't rush things, but do get well.

@RMLincoln I think it would be fun if you came on the Zuiderdam Boston-Quebec-Boston cruise.  However, Ireland is fantastic.  I didn't find the driving that difficult, but it has been several years.  My mom's side of the family came from the Abbeyfeale area where counties Limerick, Cork, and Kerry meet.

My pool time was a fact finding mission.  I determined that the water is truly way too shallow to even try the water fitness classes.  If I kneel on the pool floor it would be the right depth, but who jogs on their knees?  I walked the lazy river, but with the shallow water there I did start to develop pain in my lower back and my neck after a while.  This lazy river is about 6 inches shallower than the one I used in Ohio.

Debbie, I hope you can figure a way to get the water exercises you need, even if it means paying to join another gym.
