Are you referring to Amsterdam? OP was asking about Rotterdam. The Hilton in Rotterdam is close to Centraal Station Rotterdam but not that close to the cruise port. However, the Doubletree by Hilton in Amsterdam is close to Amsterdam Centraal Station and Amsterdam cruise terminal as is the Movenpick hotel. Amsterdam Hilton is close to neither.

A couple of years ago and UK was probably still in EU at that time, so the procedures would have been different.

That will make a difference as you will do the initial UK 'immigration' at Portland and your initial EU 'immigration' procedures at Brest. I doubt (hope 🤞)that you will have to go through duplicate procedures at Le Havre and Dover!

Not only is UK non Schengen, it is non EU! The immigration at Rotterdam will be a breeze compared with the immigration procedures for Dover 🙄. UK Boder Force insists on face to face interviews with all pax onboard, whether disembarking in port or not. It can take hours. The procedure will probably be carried out onboard and after arrival to the port. Our only experience with Rotterdam was not related to a TA so I don't know if it would be handled differently. We did not show passports and there were no formalities. Perhaps a TA would be different but there are many on the HAL board who do Eastbound TA's regularily. Maybe a note in the 'daily' to Ann (Vict0riann) or Tony (Sailingdutchy) could give you their past experiences.

Presuming that you mean Rotterdam Cruise Terminal, then having disembarked twice in the past couple of years, I did not notice any free waiting taxis in the immediate vicinity. It can be quite chaotic with disembarking pax mixing with early arrivals for the next cruise. We pre book a car with staxi.nl They send you the registration plate number of the vehicle a few hours before pick up. Drivers normally use WhatsApp for calls/messages. You can get a firm price online at booking. Looks like there is a big uplift for King's Day 🙄

Will they send Koningsdam through Panama Canal twice? Why? There is plenty of tonnage in Caribbean already. Will they base both Koningsdam and Nieuw Amsterdam on West Coast?

Good afternoon from a wet and windy Cork. I noticed the mention of the Hindenburg's first flight at Friedrichshafen and it suddenly reminded me of my years of gainful employment and trips to Germany. Friedrichshafen is the home of 'Interboot' an international trade fair for the marine industry and is situated on the shores of Lake Constance aka Bondensee. The Bodensee is the only area in Europe that does not have a legally defined border. Three countries (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) surround the lake and it was the first place in Europe to introduce regulations regarding pollution of the waters by marine engines, leading to a specification in Europe named 'Bodensee Spec'. I'm sure that not many of you knew all that, and even less are interested in it, but you never know when it will come up in a trivia question 🤣 Hope that everyone stays safe and well, take care!
