Your next new cruise line?

Most people have a cruise line they prefer and have sometimes sailed with a few.

Which line have you not tried yet, but have on your shortlist to try sometime. What appeals to you about them more than those you have already experienced?

For me, it is Azamara for smaller ships and the great feedback from past cruisers. Then Princess as a big line that we haven't reached yet.

I've sailed with a few and my preference so far is RCI. However, on my short list to try is Princess. We decided to jump in with both feet and booked a 14 night T/A on the Grand. It'll be good to try something new.....a feeling I had when I first tried Celebrity a couple years ago.

I like:

Oceania, Azamara, Celebrity, Cunard and Holland America.

Would like to try:

Crystal, Seabourn, Regent, Silversea, and maybe MSC?

I would also like to try one of those river cruises through eastern Europe or Asia.

Enjoy!

We started with Carnival, NCL and Royal and "moved up" to Celebrity. We are pretty darn happy with them right now and they have proven to be a very good fit for what we want. When we decide we are ready to "move up" again, I would love to try:

Azamara

Oceana

Regent

I liked the newer princess ships. I personally didnt care for Princess Grand, it felt dated to me... I think you might be dissapointed in the ship, even though the food is good.

MSC to me is bottom of the barrel along with Costa .. but then I dont eat Italian food. I think they have become more Americanized.

Well .. MSC is cheap .. and they allow kids free very often to entice lots of families to book.

I've sailed on Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess, and Holland America. We stick to the last three now, although I'd still consider another RCI cruise.

The top of my list to try is Cunard. I'd love to do a trans-Atlantic.

FF,

You are probably correct -- my wife and I love Italian food (been to Italy several times), but most Americans don't have a positive view of this line. It's like Carnival, I've never cruised with them, but I'm curious. MSC really is the weak link in my "to do" list.:)

I'm waiting to see what happens after the new smoking restrictions are implemented by most lines in January. High on my list to try will no doubt be Celebrity and Princess, but I'm not ruling out HAL based on their extensive itineraries. I'm a little burned out on NCL.

I have been on Princess, Holland, Celebrity, and RCI. Doing another RCI in 2012, but in 2013 going on NCL because like RCI they seem to have a variety of food & lounge venues, but I like the freestyle dining & no formal nights.

Im going to try NCL soon .. mostly "just because" there are so many deals. I have not wanted anytime dining which held me back.

You might be interested in what people have said about NCL on this other thread titled "What's the worst cruise line ....."

Disney was our first, and we've been on three Celebrity 14-day cruises since then, mostly because we like balcony rooms and Celebrity has a no-smoking on balcony policy which eliminates having to deal with a smoker on balconies around us. Now that Princess is implementing a similar policy in mid January, we might try them. RCI and HAL are also possibilities, but they still allow smoking on balconies so that might discourage us when it's time to spend our money.

On Jan 15, Princess will ban smoking in staterooms and on balconies, just like Celebrity does now. Carnival (Dec 31), HAL (Jan 15) and NCL (Jan 1) will ban smoking in staterooms, but allowed on balconies. RCI currently bans smoking in staterooms, but allowed on balconies. They are not changing their policies. Same for Disney. Most are also narrowing the available public areas where smoking is permitted. Each is doing something slightly different. Some are restricting smoking to certain areas of the casino, for instance. Celebrity already prohibits smoking in the casino, as does RCI.

I find it interesting that four of the major cruise lines are tightening their policies at almost the same time. Celebrity has had their current policy in place for several years, and were the first to implement a more restrictive policy. It has been well received, which is probably why the others are gradually going in that direction.

Hmm- we've enjoyed 9 cruises on 5 lines....no favourites of lines, but favourite ships are Ventura and NCL Jade.

Trying Celebrity Eclipse next, our 6th line, and might do a B2B with her and P&O's Oceana.

OH prefers Thomson, and Azura.

I'd like to try Thompson and Fred.Olsen. Both market primarily in the UK and most passengers are from UK. I like the ships, most are older (but not "old") and smaller then all of the mega liners, and I'd expect the onboard ambiance to be somewhat different as most of the passengers will not be from the US.

I'd like to do a Viking river cruise someday and will probably try Azamara because I love the Oceania R ships so much but I might be able to more easily afford Azamara.

Same here. All we need is a larger income!

Our next big cruise may have to be on HAL. Not necessarily our first choice, but the itinerary is what we want and, so far, no one else is offering the same thing. The ship is older (Maasdam), if it were newer we might be more positive about it. We don't need a brand new huge ship with all the bells and whistles, but this ship will be 20 years old by the time we want to cruise on her. I have no idea how the line maintains their ships.

We've cruised on at least 8 different lines so far and are not opposed to trying others.

Marco- I hope you get a chance to try one or the other- we've tried some of the big lines, and still OH enjoys the laid back Thomson; same with my sister and Fred O. I can't pin down what's so special, but part of it must be the no hassling for money. They are very British, though, and the food may be different to what you're used to- very dependent on hot puddings with lashings of custard, for instance....:D :p

Must admit to being a Celebrity fan with Celebrity Century being my favourite. So many ships now are cruise resorts and if that is what people want then it is their choice. I prefer mid size with quality. Just my opinion;)
