How much is do you tip the porter when you drop your luggage off when embarking?

I agreed with what people have mentioned here, $2 per bag. I'm always afraid to under tip and that my bags will end up falling into the ocean so I over tip the change.

I agree, $2 a bag. We normally give $10..if they pick up our bags in the garage we give them $20. They work hard for their $$$$. Benefit of using a porter at debarkation is they have their own customs line they use. Easy peasy!! Well worth the $20 to haul luggage back to car..

Depends where we are and whether we are embarking or disembarking but normally $2 per bag rounded up to the nearest $5 upon embarkation and about $10 on disembarkation for the time they spend with us going thru customs.

$1-2 per bag is the common amount when dropping your bags for boarding the ship. We've never had anyone BRING our bags to us upon departure....so there's no one to tip!

Depends on what I have them do. If they just throw them on the luggage cart they get nothing, if they write luggage tags for me at least $5 per bag.

Hasn't the rate gone up a bit in all these years? :D

With two 27-29" bags, we never tip less than $10.

Why do we need or want to know how well they are paid? I don't worry about anyone's income but my own. What's the difference? Tip what you want or don't tip at all. Your choice.

In San Francisco, you go through customs before you pick up your luggage.
