Ocean Princess Running Out of Food Items

16 days into a 64 day cruise on Ocean Princess - the last crusie for this ship - and the ship is starting to run out of all sorts of food items. We are rationed on bacon, there is no butter just some runny thin margarine, no tomato or V8 juice which leaves diabetics with no options, chicken is in short supply, there is no iced tea concentrate for the dispensers - they make ice tea for you which comes eventually in small quantities but its flavorless - we were out of bananas but got some in Brazil.

Requests for second portions or iced tea refills go unheeded in the dining room, maybe Henrique our waiter is forgetful or maybe he is following instructions?

Many passengers at the Elite CC party last night got no drinks - and we can't get any information about any of the problems.Just get stonewalled by crew if we ask questions.

Looks like Princess are trying to run the ship down to zero supplies for the handover to Oceania in a few weeks.

Unhappy passengers on here. We paid heavily for this cruise, many of us paid over the top just because we loved this small ship from previous crusies and wanted one last cruise. Not working out too well.

We are on the South American voyage on the Ocean Princess. Many supplies that were supposed to meet the ship in Trinidad did not arrive. Expect we will get them in Rio or, at worst, in Buenas Aires. We don't eat in the dining room so I can't address the service there. I actually prefer the brewed tea so can't complain about the missing ice tea concentrate. Haven't seen any sign of a shortage of chicken and just had some last evening in the buffet. Anyway, I don't feel that Princess is trying to short change us, just one of those things that can happen on a cruise.

Thanks - Missing a food delivery can definitely cause this scenario. Hopefully things are better once you get to Rio!

Had a similiar issue on the OP when we did West Africa in 2014...they missed getting 6 containers of food and supplies, they said because of lack of infrastructure in the ports. The containers never did catch up on a 30 day cruise ...we definitely didn't starve, but many of the daily items we expected were not available.

Good luck....try to enjoy!

In 2004 on the Pacific (2) Princess, we stopped in Guam. As we headed off on a shore excursion, they opened a freezer container for supplies. Someone had neglected to plug the container into a power source and it warmed in the tropical sun. A great deal of liquid ran out on the dock when the door was opened. There was a shortage of some items for about a week.

What made the cruise especially eventful was the dirty fuel the ship took on in Guam. The middle of the next day, the engines stopped due to clogged fuel filters. We drifted for hours in the calm equatorial Pacific. Dinner was a cold meal by candle light.

I don't recall any on board complaints about these issues. The majority of the passengers were WWII Pacific Campaign veterans and their families. For them, things were much worse on their prior cruise.

You can't beat such cruising adventures as a source of stories. Listeners generally relegate them to the category of walking to school in the snow, uphill, in both directions.

I join this cruise feb 13. Hope it improves

Griller. Can you post updates in the roll call for this cruise. There are many of us not yet onboard. Tell me if Curtis Stone food is on the ship. How is the service and overall quality of the food in the dining room. Entrees to avoid?

I am on this cruise. There is plenty of butter up in the Panorama Buffet and there was butter at dinner tonight.

Had the Chef's Table the other night and yes, according to the Executive Chef, we did miss a container in Trinidad. Tomorrow is Rio and we should get restocked. Food has been superb nonetheless, especially the fish dishes and I'm not usually a big fan of fish dishes.

We had a Cruise Critic slot pull today. Everyone invested $15 and walked away with $23. Not bad! The casino supplied t-shirts and bingo key chains to the big winners.

Running out of iced tea concentrate is something to celebrate, if you ask me.

Have sent this review to my Travel Agent who is contacting Princess corporate

Why? Is your TA able to get the supplies to the ship faster than their already-scheduled arrival in Rio tomorrow?

So, it sounds like there was a missed or failed delivery of a container. This would contain literally tons of supplies for the ship. I certainly don't know what happened, but it sounds like Princess has made arrangements to try to be resupplied while in port tomorrow.

Yes, I've been on cruises where attempts at resupply in "unusual" ports were only partially successful, but at least they are making the effort. Not sure what any TA can do about the situation.

We did a Trans-Atlantic where, on the last full day the ship ran out of toilet paper. They sent the stewards to the cabins to claim any "extras" that might have been in guest bathrooms, leaving us with the roll that was on the spindle. They stationed attendants in the public bathrooms who were handing out paper towels and asking us to place them in the plastic bags available rather than flushing. The one good thing about the situation was the we were all getting off the next morning and they would be able to re-stock. They ran out of other things on that cruise, but nothing quite so critical.
