Rare Keith1010 Posted March 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2016 Question; does Princess charge more for tips if you are staying in Suite? Thanks Yes a slight difference. From the Princess Web Site. Keith To simplify the tipping process for our passengers, a discretionary gratuity charge will be automatically added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. The daily gratuity amounts are $13.95 per person for mini-suites and suites, and $12.95 per passenger in all other staterooms per day (including children). This gratuity will be shared amongst those staff who have helped provide and support your cruise experience, including all waitstaff, stateroom stewards, buffet stewards, and housekeeping staff across the fleet. A 15% gratuity is added to bar charges and dining room wine accounts.

skynight Posted March 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 30, 2016 RCI is just now catching up with Princess who raised the daily charge last fall. The Princess auto tip was raised effective for cruises sailing January 1, 2016. This was announced in the fall of 2015 with an option window during the fall to prepay at the old rate. land lover Posted March 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) RCI increased theirs to 12.95(reg cabin) back in June of 2015..now May 1st 2016 they r raising them 55 cents to 13.50...they were ahead of Princess on this one, but certainly did not wait that long until another increase, RCI is offering a window to prepay. jennybenny Posted March 31, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 31, 2016 I think we are OK on Princess, at least for a year :) They just raised them, and RCI is just catching up, as others have mentioned. I do worry that the gratuities will continue to rise, but we love cruising and love the service we have received. I just hope another increase isn't too soon, :D
cruzsnooze Posted March 31, 2016 #16 Share Posted March 31, 2016 The gratuity is a suggest amount which you can adjust at guest services. I adjusted mine to $12 PP PD last month because that's what they suggested when I booked my cruise. Tipping is a personal decision so do what is comfortable to you. Don't announce it if you reduce it unless you're willing to buy a flame suite :D

And with my next RCI cruise, next month grats r included so no biggie. I feel the more the grats r increased the less xtra $$ the crew gets. I am waiting for Princess to increase to 18% on the drinks, wine purchases.

I never pay in advance just as I wouldn't tip in advance in a land restaurant. You can't adjust them if you pay in advance and find you want to make an adjustment. Tripper10 Posted April 1, 2016 #21 Share Posted April 1, 2016 Princess or RCI can raise it to $ 25.00 per person per day. If you don't like it, just lower it at the service desk to the amount you are comfortable with. .
