Kiminime Posted October 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Hi Everyone, I need to find the BEST and simple way, for two elderly persons, to travel from Port Everglades to Key West to join another cruise. Arrival at Port Everglades at 7:00am and ship leaving Key West at 4:00pm. Any idea, solution or opinion will be useful. Thank you,

Kiminime Posted October 2, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Just curious...What cruise are they joining in Key West? There aren't any cruises that begin there. Are they trying to join one downline? EM Yes, they are finishing a cruise on November 19 and would like to catch another that begin November 18 with a first stop in Key West. CruiserBruce Posted October 2, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Assuming you have approved this with the cruise line involved?
Kamloops50 Posted October 2, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2017 The logistics would be nearly impossible. The other issue is if the cruise started in Florida on the 18th . Boarding in Key West would contravene the PVSA act.
Kiminime Posted October 2, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted October 2, 2017 Thank you for the information! We were just starting to look into it. I guess the project is now sinking with our hopes :D Thank you again,
mo&fran Posted October 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2017 They will not be allowed to join a cruise in progress at down stream port if it originates and ends in a US port.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 2, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 2, 2017 You will need to contact the cruise line about this. Keith
cherylandtk Posted October 2, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 2, 2017 My guess is you are trying to join the Nieuw Amsterdam...which originates in FLL on the 18th. I'm very sorry, but this is a violation of the PVSA and your parents would not be allowed onboard in Key West.
leaveitallbehind Posted October 2, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 2, 2017 While the responses indicating the difficulty with this are likely correct, the best way to verify any option would be to contact the cruise line and discuss it with them directly. I am assuming you looked at the itinerary...because if the cruise went to the ABC Islands or Cartagena, they would be able to join this cruise. Those qualify as "distant foreign ports". I guess they could fly to Grand Turk and join the cruise on day 3.
NMLady Posted October 3, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 3, 2017 Yes, they are finishing a cruise on November 19 and would like to catch another that begin November 18 with a first stop in Key West. Do they have permission from the cruise line to embark at a port stop?

CruiserBruce Posted October 3, 2017 #17 Share Posted October 3, 2017 Still the same issue with the PVSA. Sent from my iPad using Forums I don't think so. You would be sailing from a foreign port to a US port. Shouldn't be a problem.
Kamloops50 Posted October 3, 2017 #18 Share Posted October 3, 2017 The government looks at where the cruise starts and ends , not ports in between. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Kamloops50 Posted October 3, 2017 #19 Share Posted October 3, 2017 Also they will go thru e trap screening when they arrive back. They don’t show on the manifest submitted ti the US authorities on departure. The difference can cause issues with the authorities when arriving back in the US. There are several ships leaving PE on the 19th just choose one of those if they want to have a longer cruise or see if they can stay on the same ship Also look at ships leaving Miami on the 19th

Here's an answer to your actual question. Take a look at Keys Shuttle. They would just need to taxi over to FLL to catch the shuttle. cbelc Posted October 4, 2017 #22 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Take the turnpike west to I75 and then south to Ft. Myers. Take the Key West Express fast boat to Key West. Or just take a plane. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Rare broberts Posted October 4, 2017 #24 Share Posted October 4, 2017 The cost of flying starts around $70, but the only flight that fits is about $190. Flight time about 1h10. Consult the cruise line. It may be possible to pay the fine and board at Key West. My recollection is the fine is $300.
