Princess Medallion

Just off the Regal....At the casino with the slot machines and at the tables, there is a round blue *****. When using either the slots or the table, just have to put your cruise card in front of the ***** and it reads your card just as when we had to put the cruise card into the machine. Then it takes you through the same system and before the *****. Putting in your birthday, etc.

When purchasing something at the stores, you also put your cruise card in front of the ***** signal and that's how you pay for your purchase.

All Medallions are blue except Elite, which are black.

They added black medallions? We were all blue on the 12/3/17 sailing and they said it would be quite a while before they started having any other colors.

Do you thing they'll be getting rid of the patters and thereby forcing everyone to pair their smart device to be able to view the days events?

Bob

Bob they told us that there would still be printed patters but you would need to pick them up at customer relations at some point in the future.

Wondering how the medallion works with the machines in the casino. With the cards you put in the slot and can draw money on it from your on board credit that you have for the cruise.

The only difference is that you will touch your medallion on a pad on the machine just like you would with a touch credit card, we call it Paywave in Australia.

I seriously hope they have a rack of them available instead of making people stand in line to get one. Sometimes you have to wait 5 or 10 minutes to ask for one if the line is long.

i never sailed on princess yet. On other cruises lines, when i past by the guest service desk they was always a big stack of the daily activity sheet/patters on the desk. They also sometimes have a guest service person standing by the line to help people with any questions and they also have a stack of them too.

They often do have a pile of them but when they're gone (which is often) they just make people stand in line to receive them one at a time.

Might it be to control the amount of patters being wasted by some people taking a handful?

I'd settle for a copy of the nights DR menu.

I am constantly asking that they post the menu on the intranet. It doesn't have to be elaborate, just list the appetizers and main course offerings which should be enough.

If this is too hard for princess, they could just put a web cam outside the dining room,

and point it at the dinner menu on the wall...

Princess would likely spend millions of dollars on such a "complex" system...only to find it did not function. They would then announce that implementation will be delayed until further notice :).

On our recent Regal cruise, I used to walk from the pool deck down to deck 4 to check out the posted lunch menu. On most days it was not even available until around 11am! I asked the Maitre'd why they could not simply post that menu at breakfast time or the prior day...and he did not have an answer.

I am totally opposed to this invasive use of technology. As if our daily movements aren't already tracked enough by our cell phones and credit card purchases. If I am ever unlucky enough to get one of these Medallions, will I have the option to opt out of the program? Just give me an old fashioned cruise card.

What would happen if someone threw their Medallion overboard as an act of protest? I can't imagine it would cause the crew to think that a live person has gone overboard. Or would it?

On the Royal the menus on the boards were changed each morning without fail.

It still would involve a trip to the 5th or 6th deck to view it when they could just scan them & post it on the TV.

It doesn't seem that big a deal considering they have advertising going on all day that no one really looks at anyway.

I'm not sure, but aren't they also posted on the Lido deck? I don't recall exactly, but maybe it was around the Buffer exit?

Yes, in Royal/Regal, menus are posted at aft exits to buffet, out to the Horizon Terrace. On older ships, they're posted at the entrance to the buffet from the Lido Deck..

It could be....never noticed.

The only time I have to provide the meal election is just prior to dinner when my wife wants to know if we should be going to the DR or buffet.

Not only would the crew notice but you might well be put off at the next port as throwing anything overboard can have that result. I'm totally amazed by people who have a Facebook account and then complain about being "tracked" by the medallion.

I don't have a Facebook account. But thank you for playing our game anyway.

I'm pretty sure that you can opt-out of the Medallion.

As for the menu's, why not have them on their ship-board website, show them on the TV, and the ***** app. I also never understood why the MDR menu's weren't just included in the patter - they waste a crap load of paper on all those eff'ing Effy inserts, etc..

Not that I'm in favor of throwing the medallion overboard but putting people off the ship. Now that's a little overboard at best. LOL :D:D Get real.

Whoops. I've lost my medallion over the side. :p

I would not mind if all the ads for the Spa, photo dept, art auctions, etc were just available electronically.

There would not be any need to have them available on paper at the Customer Service desk.

I don't understand the issue...

If a city installs traffic cameras to monitor the publics movements, you are pretty much forced to submit.

If you don't want princess tracking you with a medallion, can you simply not purchase a cruise from princess?

He can wrap his medallion in aluminum foil until needed. :D
