Upgrade to Grand Suite?

Recommended Posts

For our first family cruise on Oasis (with 2 young children) I booked a Jr. Suite, deck 6 with larger balcony (on hump). Prices have now dropped for Grand Suites and there’s one on deck 8 available. Total cost difference (taking OBC promos and gratuities into account) is about $800. It would be offset somewhat by the free internet (spent about $100 on internet package that I’d get refunded). So real cost to me would be $700.

I think we will be quite happy in the Jr Suite with the large balcony & walk in closet & very easy access to the Boardwalk and Promenade for the kids, so I’m inclined to just be happy with what we have.

But, I’m curious from you seasoned cruisers whether the extra space and grand suite perks make for a much better experience such that you would recommend upgrading? Would you spend $700 for a grand suite upgrade?

All input appreciated! Thank you.

I would seriously consider it. Think about access to Coastal Kitchen for all meals, suite lounge access with 11am to 11pm free bottled water, soda, and selected beers and wines. Suite sundeck access.

You guys are tempting me...ha ha. Can I ask you more about these beers and wines and waters you speak of Bob?

I purchased deluxe drink packages for both me and my wife. I know we will go through like 5 bottles of water per day each. But we also are beer/wine drinkers (though we do not drink liquor). With having the suite lounge access, would that basically mean we could have beer & wine & water free any time we wanted from 11-11, thereby eliminating the need for the drink packages? I’m sure we would buy beverages at different venues throughout the ship, but if the bulk of the drinks were included perhaps we could drop the drink package? Thoughts on that?

Yes, you could have beer and wine from 11am to 11pm. However, the selections would be small, not nearly as many as you would have with the beverage package. Plus, they may or may not frown upon you taking the drinks out of the lounge. My experience has been that they don't care much about that, but that could have been just the way it was on our few cruises.

Complimentary beers are Budweiser Miller light Amstel light and Heineken.

But, if you ask they will get others for you.

YES, I would make the upgrade. Personally, I think the GS are the best value when you factor in all the perks. We have had three OS and who wouldn't love them. But for the money we enjoyed the GS and it's plenty of room for just the two of us.

We have had the deluxe package each time and while it's nice to have the "free" drinks in the SL, it's not very convenient during the day when hanging out on deck. We tend to spend most of the day on the suite only sun deck and it's a long walk to the SL for a free cocktail when there's a bar 20 ft away.

also reserved seats for all the shows except comedy club, love being escorted off by concierge at end of cruise, also if Hati is port there is a really nice suite beach, our Oasis also went down a lot so we went from grand suite to owners suite for almost original cost of GS

In a heartbeat, especially on Oasis class.

Coastal Kitchen, Suite Lounge, internet, huge bathroom, free room service, reserved seats at shows, extra room, bigger balcony, Barefoot Beach access if at Labadee, , , , , ,

I don't think you'll be allowed to "carry out" your beers...it's for drinking IN the lounge....not to take out. So, unless you plan on doing all of your drinking in the lounge, you will still be buying drinks while "out and about".
