memoie Posted March 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Looking to book a cruise which includes St. Petersberg Russia. We are 4 seniors from 69-81 years of age. Not looking for a party ship or a mega ship. Which cruise line would you recommend. Looking at something like 14 days. Thank you:)
Rare Essiesmom Posted March 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Go to www.cruisetimetables.com and choose St. Petersburg from the list of Ports of Call. Choose your time. See what ships are going there, and their itineraries. Then research their parent lines to see if it looks attractive. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2018 This is one that I would get a TA to help you with in terms of developing a list of cruise lines that stop there and to find the length that you want and ones that are in your budget. memoie Posted March 19, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Sorry but I must have not worded my question correctly. We have already looked at which cruise lines visit St. Petersberg, Russia and for how long etc, etc. What I am looking for is "a persons opinion on which cruise line to choose and why". We have cruised before on both royal Caribbean and Holland America.

Rare Got2Cruise Posted March 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Holland America is great for seniors. The entertainment is geared to that age group.
paul929207 Posted March 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2018 We will be on the Pacific Princess for the Baltic cruise sailing July 4, 2018. It is a 14 day cruise. This ship is a smaller one holding just 680 passengers. I am not sure how mobile you are but we have a private two day tour with Alla that requires minimal walking. CruiserBruce Posted March 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2018 If you have been on HAL and RCI, and are happy with them, they will take care of you just fine.
jocap Posted March 19, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2018 If you are happy with small, older ships, there are three lines which sail from the north of England and Scotland, to the Baltic. Cruise and Maritime are adult only; Fred Olsen has some cruises adult only, but is not geared to children and usually has older people, and Tui Marella, formerly Thomson, which is a family ship. The first two lines also have ships sailing out from southern ports.

The nice thing about their smaller ships is that they literally dock in the thick of things. We were across from The Hermitage. We did 3 days of private tours with SPB tours. Excellent. The cruise was fine for the 4 of us active 70 year olds. The only red flag I would mention is that Azamara is going through a transition of new entertainment. The jury is still out on that. Food and service was fine. Hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
AmazedByCruising Posted March 20, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2018 The shore excursions in St Petersburg are not age-related. I did a cruise Amsterdam - Petersburg and back on Celebrity Silhouette and loved it. Selecting visiting Petersburg and the right time and length at https://www.clickclickcruise.com/ shows many options.
Flatbush Flyer Posted March 20, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Sorry but I must have not worded my question correctly. We have already looked at which cruise lines visit St. Petersberg, Russia and for how long etc, etc. What I am looking for is "a persons opinion on which cruise line to choose and why". We have cruised before on both royal Caribbean and Holland America. The ports are the ports. Where the real difference comes through is the difference between cruise industry segments and how that translates to food quality, service and amenities as well as passenger population (size and demographics). A good "cruise specialist" TA will interview you regarding travel experience and preferences and help you narrow your list of possibilities. For us, the deal breakers are thundering herds, nickel-diming, low quality food (both ingredients and preparation). So, for any itinerary that includes St Petersberg, we'd only consider lines like Oceania or Regent. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Used a private excursion in St Petersburg which worked out beautifully. Princess isn’t party hearty, but doesn’t expect everybody to be in bed at eleven, either. We have cruised before on both royal Caribbean and Holland America. We went on Oceania Nautica, one of their smaller ships, and had a fabulous trip to the Baltic and St. Petersberg. We did the ship's excursions, and were let in earlier than the public in some of the venues. The ship's service, food, and lecturers were all excellent, and we (seniors) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Flatbush Flyer Posted March 20, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Have you considered a Russian river cruise? Roz There are no cruises on the Russian River [emoji6]. paul929207 Posted March 21, 2018 #22 Share Posted March 21, 2018 We took a two week cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Ship held about 200 people. We started with 4 days in Moscow, then 6 days sailing on the rivers, canals and lakes, and finished with 4 days in St. Petersburg. It was a nice trip. Not as fancy as the larger cruise ships we were used to.
