Booking next cruise on board for friends?

My husband and I will be going on a Mexico cruise in November on the Ruby Princess and I've been told that I need to book my next cruise when I get on board. What I'm wondering is if I can book for my friends and family as well with a $100 deposit or do they have to be on board to receive this benefit?

Also this is my first cruise and want to know if there is anything specific we should know or do while on board?

The answer to your first question is no. You have an option to book with the cruise consultant or you can simply purchase Future Cruise Deposits for yourself and your husband. The FCD's will go into your Princess accounts, are good for 2 years, and are fully refundable if not used.

I can't answer your question regarding family and friends. I think you have to speak with the cruise consultant while on board.

1st cruise tips. Read the Princess Patter each day it has the activities for the day. Watch for activities that are really soft sell sales talks. Arrive at the theater at least 30 mins. early for shows. Mid evening shows are more crowded than late evening ones. Arrive at the pier between 10:30 & 11:00 and you should be on board for lunch. Relax and enjoy yourself. You can't do everything.

Awesome! Thank you for your quick response. This will help!

The only booking you can do onboard with the $100 deposit is for yourself, or for yourself and someone else (who is not on board) with whom you are going to share the cabin you are booking. Breaking it down, that means that you and your husband could each book a cabin, in your own names and the name of a friend or family member that will be joining you that cruise. Two cabins.....I don't how many you need to book.

When you want to change the people in the cabins you can either do it when you actually board by going to the passenger services desk, or, if you want to do it before the cruise, just know that the name of one person in each cabin has to be on the original booking.

You cannot purchase future cruise deposits for anyone who is not on the ship.....but if someone is doing a Bon Voyage Experience, my understanding is they can purchase FCD's while they are on board for that. FCD's are great to have, in my humble opinion, because you do not have to know precisely which cruise you want to take when you get them, but have a two year window in which to book any Princess cruise that you decide upon.

As far as this being your first cruise, first, prepare to become addicted. Second, read the information on the Princess website about pre, during and post cruise. Take a good look at the deck plans and get to know where things are in relationship to your cabin - the dining venues, the pools, the passenger service desk, internet café, lounges, etc. Join the roll call for your cruise, ask questions there, and also after reading the Princess website info, come on back and ask questions, because when you have some specific questions, we can give lots of answers. Research your ports in terms of what shore excursion options are appealing to you, and consider booking in advance. When you board, and each evening, there will be a Princess Patter in your stateroom, listing important information, general info, and also daily activities. Please pay attention to the notices in it. Above all, pay attention to the time you need to back on board the ship after a port call.

Do you have any friends or family who have sailed on Princess in the last few years? If so, talk with them, too. BTW, love the Ruby, great ship. Enjoy.....

They have changed this recently. You can buy FCD for other people. What I don't know is if they have to have sailed with Princess recently.

I did book a FCD for a friend on my Norway cruise. He had sailed with Princess before but was not on the ship with me.

I would meet with the Princess person and explain the situation.

Also, do referrals for your friends so you can both get $25 OBC.

Wow. I like that I can get fcds for the kids. When did that change?

January time frame.

Several reported it so I tried it and was able to do it. The people I was doing it for had sailed with Princess and I had their Captain Circle number. Not sure if that made a difference or not.

Oddly, when this first came out many moons ago, you could do it back then also.

Thanks. I have their cc numbers so good to go next month. :) you know, it kind of makes sense that a cc number would be needed, since they are tied to that.

As someone else has mentioned, If they are able to join you for Bon Voyage Experience (BVE) they can use the $39 BVE fee towards their future cruise, and they can fill out the FCD form and get the perks from the Future cruise deposit.

We've done a BVE before just to get a FCD for a cruise we were booking. :)

We just dropped the form in the box and put BVE for "cabin number".

Yes you can. I spoke to the FCC agent on board the Golden last week. He would (not could) do it...IF:

1. I had my friend's Captain Circle Number

2. If I filled out the form and personally handed it to him

3. The charge would go on my account

What does Princess have to lose?????

My question is this: Is it the same and the FCD one buys while onboard or is it the "limited" FCD one can get shortly after cruising? The second option is also relatively new. The OBC is not at all the same. It would be great if purchasing for another person - who has a Captain's Circle Number - is the same as the "regular" FCD but it's worth asking about the terms. The "post cruise" FCD has significantly less OBC connected to it as a benefit.

I'm not trying to say that the new "buy it for someone else" FCD that can be purchased while onboard is the same as the limited "post cruise" FCD. I am merely asking if this is the case.

EDIT: I thought of another question. I once took my son on a BVE as a thank you for driving us to the port. Did he, in fact, accrue a Captain's Circle Number for doing the BVE? Just wondering as it would affect whether or not I was eligible to procure a FCD for him while cruising. :)

I can't answer the first part but this is almost certainly a yes. When I purchased the BVE for my friend driving me to the port last November, the rep who first answered the phone took her information and pulled a Captain's Circle number for her before transferring me to the BVE specialist. I'm sure it showed on her Cruise Personalizer where we had to enter her passport number and print the BVE boarding pass.

To answer your Edit question, No, you do not get a cruise credit for booking and taking a BVE. You have to actually sail on a cruise to receive a cruise credit.

I seem to remember that you could book a cruise using an FCC/FCD, whether onboard or not, and book friends/family at the same $100 deposit. However, they did not get the FCC OBC. Don’t know if that’s changed but I’m pretty sure this has been possible for years.

We booked our DS and his family on a cruise last year while on a cruise ourselves. The future cruise person allowed us to book using our FCD (actually sold us two new ones and used them) and to book our DS and family for a $100 deposit but they did not get any OBC. However we did of course.

Love the questions from new cruisers. They bring back great memories for me and DW. My 3 pieces of advice are, take comfy shoes, aways be aware of ships time as it can differ from local time and roll with the punches if something does not go as planned.

My Mom just booked for me. My parents are on the Golden right now and my Mom & I are planning to sail on the Star next September. Onboard the other day, she put down the future cruise deposit in my name, then immediately used it to book both of us on our next cruise.

I think she would have mentioned if there were any issues doing that, but she didn't. Could have been easier since we are related and have the same last name. It doesn't hurt to try.

This was done just a couple days ago on the Golden.

I didn't actually ask about a cruise credit. I'm aware that no cruise credit is awarded for a BVE. I was asking if he ended up with a Captain's Circle ID number.

How much is the OBC Per person?

Varies by type cabin and length of cruise. Minimum is $15 for inside/oceanview for a cruise of 3 to 6 days. Maximum is $150 for balcony or higher for a cruise of 17 or more days. Only the first two persons in a cabin can get the OBC.

Interesting that nobody has mentioned that if you do a referral for the folks that haven't sailed both you and they get $25 onboard credit. Make sure you do this BEFORE your family and friends start a booking:

https://book.princess.com/captaincircle/referralRewards.page

I got $50 for son and DIL the first time they sailed (and they now have more Princess days than I do).
