rebeltech8 Posted June 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2019 https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2019/06/articles/drownings/passenger-drowns-on-caribbean-princess/ Early one morning when we were on the Caribbean Princess, we awoke to an announcement in the hallway. It woke me up but I could not clearly hear what was being said. Nothing further was said during the last days of the cruise (obviously) Seems there was a drowning in the Neptune pool at about that same time. Sounds like a 30 year old man drank a bit too much and ended up in the pool after hours. This is was the only article I could find regarding the incident... Sad. garrd404 Posted June 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2019 We were on this cruise as well, there was emergency pages and security pages early in the morning. Upon getting up for the day the pool was completely drained and roped off for majority of the day. There was rumors going around that morning but no one knew what had actually happened. Pool opened later that afternoon and we found out during dinner from some friends what actually happened. Very sad.
Rare Cruise Raider Posted June 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2019 How does this happen? Those pools are always roped off at night. He would have had to make a concerted effort to get under the ropes to drown, no? Unless ... someone dropped the ball and never netted it. We witnessed some guy that was obviously very inebriated try to jump over the railing into the Piazza from several decks above. I guess some passengers take part in very dangerous activities when they've drank too much.

mfdiego Posted June 17, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2019 We learned about the incident from one of the staff as the deceased had been at the same bar talking with my husband the night before. We saw the man at the 3 Amigos in Cozumel at around 730pm when his wife fell off the bar and smacked her head on the concrete. She was walking on the bar. They were beyond drunk at the time. On something more serious than alcohol. I was worried about the wife that she might have suffered a concussion or worse. They went back to the ship. My son saw the man without his wife at Skywalkers at 1am or so. Then next day at sea we pretty much stayed in the room on our deck. We learned that eve they found the body at 4am and drained the pool. It made me sick to think people were swimming in the pool later in the day. Yuck. I heard they put caution tape around their cabin as it was a crime scene. No idea what happened to wife and if she was ok. She took a major fall. Very sad. It is sad, but over consumption of alcohol (or possibly other substances) will so that without regards to it being on a cruise ship. It must have been very difficult for your husband when he found out and realized he had been talking with the person on the prior night.

rosebud55112 Posted June 17, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) I woke up to an announcement being made in the hallway. First was "Security team to Lido deck, Neptune Pool" foolwed shortly after by "Medical Team to Lido Deck, Neptune Pool". A couple minutes later, those two were repeated. I thought it was about 1 am, and figured a couple drunks got into a fistfight on deck, but when I checked my phone I saw that it was about 5am. When I went up to the buffet for breakfast, the area was cordoned off with yellow tape (you could still go around the area outside of the central columns) and they were draining the pool. At that point I figured someone had been for an early swim and slipped and cut their head or something. I didn't hear anything about the real cause of the closure until this morning when my sister sent me a link to the Newsweek article. As far as I know, no announcement of any type was made publicly on board. Due to the time and being awakened from sleep, my recollection of the wording of the announcements may not be completely accurate. It's interesting that they'd make such announcements over a public address system. They don't have private communication channels (e.g. radios) for security or medical staff?
