Upgrade fairy

Cruised 4 times previously and this may will be my first princess cruise. Got an email yesterday informing me that I had been upgraded for free from a balcony to a mini suite. Always wanted to try a suite so this will be a great experience for my wife and I. Just wanted to share as I know I always like to read when the upgrade fairy visits.

Great upgrade. A mini suite is a larger cabin with a sitting area and a larger bathroom. The mini suite does not have the benefits of a full suite.

Congratulations that's fantastic news! It's also awesome to know that the upgrade fairy is still in existence. Was starting to doubt that with all these upsells that princess has been doing for a few years.

Agree. New customers seem to get these upgrades more than others. I have been told, without verification, that new customers are "marked" in their system.

First, congrats to the OP!!!

As to those upsells, I've yet to get one that makes sense.  Last Princess cruise (this past April), we were originally booked in a Caribe deck balcony...and started getting upsell offers to a Mini-Suite that would have significantly increased our cost...I just kept monitoring the fares instead, and eventually upsold myself--into a Club Class Mini-Suite--for almost no cost increase like $8 pp, IIRC.  and that was while the upsell offer was still on the table for a several hundred dollar increase!

The Club Class Mini-Suites DO have some extra advantages--midship location and special reserved dining room area with the suites.

That's great!  Make sure you like the location of your upgrade.  You are allowed to move cabins within your new category. So if you don't like where they put you, see what else is available in that new category.

i think it is fabulous that you have been given this upgrade.  Enjoy the mini-suite, as it is a slightly larger cabin with a sofa, two TV's and on the Royal class ships, a curtain that can divide the cabin in half.  One of the best parts is a full size tub/shower!  On our second Princess cruise, we were up graded for free from a balcony to a full-suite.  It totally spoiled us.  We cannot do full suites on our dime, but we do book mini-suites, so Princess marketing definitely worked for them.

I disagree about upgrades primarily going to new cruisers. I think a lot of people who book guarantees get them. Generally they're within the same class of cabin, like my next cruise on the CB going from an IF to and IB. But this summer, I went from an IF to an OB (inside to ocean view), which was fantastic. Our best ever was going from an obstructed ocean view guarantee to a cabin with a balcony.

Congrats! Never offered an upgrade but generally request no upgrade so no surprise. Upgrades are great but I'd really like to know how so many people were offered and accepted a free cruise on the 1st Sky inaugural cruise on 12/1. I heard multiple people talking about their free cruise ~ say what??

holy smokes it happened to us.

my son told me to check our email for a picture of my granddaughter and i saw an email from princess and the subject said "upgrade"

I had booked a ID (inside) for a 14 day round trip out of LA to  Alaska cruise for May 2020 - upgraded to Emerald deck OW.  Not a mini suite, but nice not to have an inside.

we leave in 3 weeks for a 7 day cruise and I was hoping for an upgrade on that cruise - but it is a "free" casino offer, so I not sure if an upgrade is offered on that.

January;s cruise will be our 5th cruise with Princess for a total of 54 days.  So the upgrade was for our 6th cruise with Princess.

Today we got an upgrade from a balcony to a mini-suite for our 29-day trans-Pacific cruise in April! Yesterday was final payment day so the upgrade fairy was much earlier than we expected. I had been monitoring the prices for a drop because there were still a lot of empty cabins on the ship and thought I might get a chance to upgrade myself, but Princess took care of it for us. By the way, we are Elite so the upgrades don't always go to newbies.

Got a free upgrade to mini on second cruise with Princess. Never since. Great cabin. Nice little sitting area and bathroom with full size tub. Wife loved it. On upcoming cruise in March on Regal Princess received upsell offer for mini for $200/pp. Free is better.

Congratulations on your free upgrade.  Enjoy the extra room.  Is it an upgrade to a mini (no suite) club class?
