Taclin01 Posted December 13, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2019 Is it possible to make a 10 am southwest flight on a Sunday out of fll?
d9704011 Posted December 13, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2019 Yes. Walk off the ship with your luggage and take a taxi to FLL. Should be there before 0830.
Guindalf Posted December 13, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2019 This question has just been asked. .. Possible, yes. Recommended, absolutely not! It's a 45 minute ride to FLL, so you have to do a walk-off and hope you can get transportation (Uber, Lyft, taxi) immediately. You should be at the airport at least 1-1.5 hours before, so you must hope to be off the ship by 8:00am at the latest. We have a flight leaving Miami at 11:04 and we're slightly worried about that. Is it worth the stress?
Mr. Click Posted December 13, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2019 IF... you dock on time, the ship clears on time, you walk off on your own with your luggage, you have a pre-arranged ride waiting for you and you are docking in Ft Lauderdale, NOT Miami. You should plan to be right at the front of the walk off line and just keep going until you are checked in at the airport and through TSA.. It is a big help if you have TSA Pre-check.
Rare Cruise Raider Posted December 13, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2019 It is possible if you are disembarking in Ft Lauderdale .... not recommended, though. The drive from Port Everglades to FLL airport is just a few minutes so not sure why the post above says it is 45 minutes, unless he was referring to a Miami disembarkation. We've been to the airport after walk off by 8:15 AM once in the past. Another time, we had to change piers at the last minute because the ship occupying the space we where supposed to dock had a seriously ill patient onboard and it delayed our disembarkation until 10 AM and beyond. Well, needless to say, we had absolutely no time to spare to get to our gate for an 11:30 AM flight. We would have definitely missed a 10 AM flight time. So, sure, maybe you will make it, but if there is a delay, just be sure to have a plan B in mind.
Pickels Posted December 13, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2019 IMHO, and from others who have commented on this issue; IF, IF, IF, everything goes ok you should make it. BUT, ship docks late, issue with people getting off, security, customs, traffic, hmm, kinda risky! Good Luck!
Rare 1025cruise Posted December 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2019 While possible, I wouldn't do it.
dkjretired Posted December 13, 2019 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2019 Last thing I want to do is go on a nice cruise and worry about whether I’m going to make my flight at the end of the cruise.

Potential delays with disembarking and customs. Not to mention airport delays Also we once left the terminal and their was a big accident delaying trip to airport. After a great vacation why have any stress. Consider a later flight and find something to do. Ship offers post cruise tours
XuGator Posted December 13, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) I think 10am is the perfect time if you self-disembark. Walk of the ship and there are ubers/lyfts abound. Airport is less than 10 minutes away and it is a small airport. I think you will have plenty of time. Last time we disembarked in FLL, there was a 930 and 130 flight. We played it safe and booked the 130 and were sitting around for hours. We would have made the 930 without issue. Just know exactly where you are going and you will be fine. We have global entry also but it rarely is all that advantageous at FLL. Edited December 13, 2019 by XuGator
paulh84 Posted December 13, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2019 If you’re coming in to Port Everglades and can handle your own luggage...yes. There are of course a million what if one off mishaps that could happen, but we routinely make it to FLL before 8am doing walk off in no particular rush. Our next cruise we have a 10:30am flight and I’m not too concerned with it.

Fouremco Posted December 13, 2019 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2019 The OP is booked on the Summit embarking February 1st. As the cruise starts and finishes in Puerto Rico, I hope that this is an unrelated question.
Rare DENIE Posted December 14, 2019 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2019 On the 7 or 8 cruises we have been on, we've experienced two delays in getting off. Once, in San Diego, was because the ship had propulsion issues and arrived 2 hours later, and disrupted disembarkation. Thank goodness the airport was also experiencing delays, so our flights were equally delayed. The other time was when there were customs issues in Miami, and we had to sit around an extra hour or so. Fortunately, we were spending the night in Miami, so did not harm us in any way. Bottom line, delays happen...
NCHPcruiser Posted December 14, 2019 #15 Share Posted December 14, 2019 My mother, sister and I have done it numerous times with no problems. Statistically, you’re probably fine. There can always be issues so it just depends on your comfort level.
daydreamer16 Posted December 14, 2019 #16 Share Posted December 14, 2019 We usually take 10:05 flight from FLL to JFK on JetBlue. We walk off with luggage, take a taxi & have TSA pre-check. All we have is carry-on so we leave the ship at 8am and are usually at the gate between 8:30-8:45.

Well, could be they are just curious, or asking for someone else, or are booked on a cruise which has not yet been added to their sig. We do that now - cruise first, add to sig when we return. 😊 OP, what I would do is check how many other ships are disembarking that date and take into account that many of those passengers are also heading to FLL. Could have a long taxi wait and long lines at the airport.
gfkcruiser Posted December 14, 2019 #18 Share Posted December 14, 2019 Normally I would say yes but getting off the Silhouette in Miami yesterday was very delayed. Walk-off didn't start until almost 8:30 am. Our scheduled departure based on tag # was supposed to be around 8:15. Did not get called until 9:00. Due to congestion, probably based on number of walk-offs having to depart all at once, we were held at gangway and we did not depart ship until 9:15. Not a problem as we had noon flight at MIA. Since Delta is a small operator at MIA, lines to drop luggage were short. No line for cabs and were all checked in before 10 am.
Rare terrydtx Posted December 14, 2019 #19 Share Posted December 14, 2019 Our last FLL cruise we made a 9:30am flight. Walked off the ship at 7:30 took a cab to the FLL airport and checked in at a little after 8:00. We also have TSA Pre Check so we got through security in just a few minutes. But not everyone is. We also like to use luggage valet- or if too early, we get our luggage before customs in Florida. We couldn't walk down so many flights of stairs with all of our luggage- we travel heavy and are usually on a high deck.

Global Entry is for clearing immigration and customs, which the OP would not be doing at the airport; that would be done upon disembarking the ship. Perhaps you mean TSA PreCheck, which expedites the process of clearing security at US airports? If you have GE, you get PreCheck as an added bonus, but they are two separate programs. And I have definitely seen times when it was a huge advantage at FLL if one had it. Oh, and FLL actually is a pretty big airport, but it seems smaller because it is divided into 4 completely, separate terminals that are not connected in any way. If you've ever had an inter-airline connection there, that required you to go outside from one terminal to another to connect, you'd realize it's much bigger than it might seem. 🙂

gentle@spici Posted December 15, 2019 #25 Share Posted December 15, 2019 I would suggest printing boarding passes the night before. That will save some precious time at the airport. We experienced a lengthy delay a couple weeks ago off the Reflection and didn’t get off the ship until 8:30. We had a 10:15 am flight out of FLL. We had a ride waiting for us and we’re at the airport in minutes and had over an hr wait before we boarded.
