Items on the cruise that you could do without

My Princess cruise could do without:

pillow chocolates - but I love the turndown service.  Maybe a carafe of water?

the sales pitches that keep me away from the spa. I once had a massage and got totally overcharged and lied to.  It would be nice to actually just get a treatment and walk out like at a land-based spa

the “art” auctions and “art” gallery

the walls of already printed photos.  Go digital already

On the Sky, you used your medallion to bring up your digital pictures on a computer.  There were no rows of pictures to go through.  Hopefully they will launch that fleet wide someday.

Totally agree with doing away with the baked Alaska parade.  It’s time as come and gone and If you are trying to get to a show or casino, it just drags dinner out. ( and I hate that desert anyway).  My suggestion is do away with the  Cheap chocolates on the pillow. Not that I am a chocolate snob, but as a veteran of the never ending waistline battle, I try to save my calories for the good stuff.  Now if they

had Godivas...LOL

Do away with the terrible quality Godiava chocolate and have a decent brand of chocolate 😉

I think cute towel animals are mostly a carnival line thing

If you let Princess know you are celebrating your wedding anniversary among the various items you receive is a pair of towel swans that stand forming a heart.

As a fellow Californian, one does not put tomatoes or lettuce on a street taco. A regular taco yes but never on a street taco.

I guess Rancho Palo Verdes is a deprived area then.  😉

There are many different different types of street tacos in many different parts of California.

I could do without photographers, art auctions, spas, smoking sections, MUTS, drink packages, and hairy leg contests. But other people enjoy them and the cruise line makes money on some of these, keeping the cost of my cruise lower than it otherwise could be. So I don't mind. I just avoid them.

I cringe whenever napkins start waving-I want to duck all the crumbs and germs being flung around the room. Yuck!

So do I.   We spend our cruise trying not to get sick and then the very last night everybody starts waving their dirty napkins around… Eww 🤢

i've never seen lettuce on a street taco in la, cilantro and onions. and cabbage not lettuce on fish tacos.  in any case, i have never seen tacos on princess. but i might just ignore them because i have several delicious trucks and stands with in 2 blocks of my home, thank you los angeles for tacos trucks on every corner 😄

fascinating that several of the things mentioned here are things i love. MUTS specifically, i thought it was silly before we cruised princess, but i love it.  i also like the chocolates on my pillow.  i don't always eat them and take them home and eat them there.  they aren't godiva, but a different brand i can't think of right now.  i'll be sad if they go away.

i could do away with the casino and smoking, but i know this will not make me any friends.  i don't actually mind the casino, i just mind the smell and on how some ships it is hard to avoid walking through the casino.the smell gets into my clothes and hair and it is so hard to get rid of.

Oh well, it seems like I'm the only one that likes the baked Alaska parade. I find it a bit of fun, and I thought most people around me enjoyed it as well. I like the desert as well.

The people who object to the Baked Alaska parade are members of the "Death to Having Fun Club".

I mostly detest the excessive amount of sales sheets in the Patter--especially for Effy.  I'm so annoyed by their leaflets I don't think I would ever buy something there.  And the art auction stuff as well.

I never go to the spa or to the so-called lectures on, say, feet or nutrition , once we realized the latter were just sales pitches, and the one time we were gifted a couples massage the amount of high pressure sales pitch was incredible.

I also dislike the excessively high volume of music in some venues.

Only time I ever saw a Baked Alaska parade was on our initial Celebrity cruise in 2002, everything then was fixed seating for dinner.

We are very low key, what we enjoy about cruising is the flexibility to do what you want, and for us we mostly enjoy breakfast in the MDR with cloth tablecloths and better coffee than in the buffet and anytime dining for dinner. Not lunch eaters but I have had salad from buffet or maybe pizza if there is a pizza place to go. Have never taken advantage of the specialty restaurants but maybe will do so on upcoming cruise. Enjoy strolling on the deck after breakfast and at night to see the stars and sitting on our balcony with a glass of wine enjoying the sunset. Enjoy finding a quiet comfy place in the shade to read my book or on my own balcony. Cannot remember any entertainment from any of the Princess cruises so probably not too memorable and admittedly on the Alaska cruise the fresh air sort of knocks you out so pretty tired after dinner. I did enjoy MUTS the year that Life of Pi was one of the films as pretty spectacular on large screen when we were on last Caribbean cruise. Never have purchased a photo or even looked at those posted, don't use the spa, have enjoyed the lectures offered on the Alaska cruises from naturalists, U.S Park rangers. Library on Princess ships pretty poor as compared to HAL and surprisingly Norwegian. Norwegian did have a great blues band in small venue that was very enjoyable. On the last Princess cruse on one of the sea days you had an option for fish & chips lunch in pub kind of place and we did take advantage of that despite not usually having sit-down lunch. Hope they offer that again.

I understand that a ship full of passengers presents a huge opportunity to sell people stuff, the more stuff they sell you, the more profit as each ship has a fixed amount they have earned from the bookings. You don't have to take advantage or pay attention to any of it.

MUTS at night for movies is fine.

MUTS during the day blaring commercials and insipid morning talk-show chatter is an abomination.
