Is it worth trying to fight for the coupon book?

On a cruise I am taking (in 2020) they are now offering a coupon book for new bookings.

I have an existing booking where I recently added the BSE.

It took a LONG time on hold with the TA to get that, over an hour.

On the cruise my cabin class is already sold out and I don't want to rebook.

Is it worth the effort to try and get the coupon book.

Is there anything in the book worth the time and effort.

We had coupon books last week on the Regal.  Ours have an expiration date of 12/31/20 so the coupons we didn't use on this sailing we may use on our fall cruise.  Here are the coupons in the books we received:

  • 15% Princess luxury bed
  • Buy one get one free Embarkation Day Special, dinner cover charge in specialty restaurant
  • Free chocolate dipped strawberries with purchase of Champagne
  • 15% off bottle of wine at Maitre d wine tasting
  • Free bottle of water at specialy restaurant
  • Buy one get 10% off shore excursion
  • $40 off massage on port day
  • $40 off stone therapy on port day
  • $35 off facial on port day
  • Free men's haircut with shave on port day
  • 10% any single jewelry purchase
  • Free Effy captains wheel necklace
  • Free pair of diamond studs with Effy purchase of $800
  • 15% off any 3 Princess branded items
  • Free 11x14 photo @ Platinum Studio with purchase
  • $10 free casino play when you spend $20
  • 20% Discovery Store purchase
  • Free photo lanyard with purchase of 8x10 photo

Edit to say these are the books provided by the TA, not Princess.  I used the free photo lanyard and 15% off 3 Princess items.

that worth more than the bogo, right ?

No idea as I don't use the spa services.  I just typed up the coupons directly from the book.  I would think people who gamble would like the free $10 play, people who like jewelry would take the free necklace, and people who like to shop would use the 15% off.  I used the free lanyard coupon because I was purchasing an 8x10 anyway.  Some of the shore excursions are $$ too, so I could see the 10% saving some money as well depending on the circumstance.

We would use the first two.  I doubt we would buy three Princess-branded items, but 15% off isn't bad.  If I didn't have the coupon, would not be going to Specialty on night one.  Not my preference.

Last times we had the books the casino coupon was a BOGO for the BJ tournament, so that was worth $20 to me.  I usually play Texas Hold 'Em at the poker table.  So, I would probably pass on the new one.  Looks like I would be making a $20 BJ bet and it would become $30.  Depends.  Looks like the 2020 booklet is changed and not as good for me.

Bottom line - I wouldn't go out of my way to "fight" to get one, but wouldn't throw it away if we got one.  It would be most useful to get them early in the year since you can only use ONE of the BOGO's for a Specialty Restaurant per cruise.  Might have the chance later in the year if no coupon book and cruising again.

I don't think it matters that much. We were on the Pacific in Dec/Jan. Got 2 coupon books from our TA for each leg (total 4 coupon books). We really only use the specialty restaurant BOGO and the free water. Certainly couldn't use all of them. Gave 2 away (would have kept them, but the next 4 cruises are in a suite). BTW: the expiration dates on all of them was 2018. The coupons still worked. I think they keep using them until they run out before printing a new batch with new dates.

Nice to know if they will honor an out-dated coupon, at least the next year.  I will keep any leftovers that appeal to me next time.

We got 2 coupons book on the sky on December 14th, they  had 2019 expiration.  I expect they will take them on our spring break cruise.

  • Buy one get 10% off shore excursion

  • $40 off stone therapy on port day
  • $35 off facial on port day
  • Free men's haircut with shave on port day
  • 10% any single jewelry purchase
  • Free Effy captains wheel necklace free to everyone with or without coupon during one of their promos
  • Free pair of diamond studs with Effy purchase of $800 free standard promos
  • 15% off any 3 Princess branded items
  • Free 11x14 photo @ Platinum Studio with purchase
  • $10 free casino play when you spend $20
  • 20% Discovery Store purchase
  • Free photo lanyard with purchase of 8x10 photo

They are provided by Princess and are offered via TAs to clients during special promotion periods throughout the year.

The two specialty restaurant coupons are the best items, worth $29 to eat in one for me, but not $58, so if I can get a coupon,  I will use it.

That's the only time we ever go to the restaurants. Definitively not worth $58 plus tip.

Pretty sure you know that I was trying to clarify these were the TA books & not the generic ones provided to everyone by Princess. I've seen several comments on CC here over the years about the 2 different types of books.
