When will HAL cruises REALLY restart?

Just wondering what others are thinkings.  Looking at the HAL site I see that the April 15, 2020 sailing of the

Maasdam to Mexico can be booked (we were scheduled for the April 1 sailing).  Is it realistic to think that

cruising will restart the second half of April?  I'm thinking of booking a cruise in May but will it really 'go'?

I know there is a 'cruise guarantee' but I'm still waiting for my FCC from the canceled cruise.

Aren't you  being a little optimistic to consider an April or May, 2020, cruise?  The U.S. has not even hit the peak yet.

Agree - very optimistic.  Not only are we still in the midst of all of this virus, the Canadian ports are closed until July 1st.

Also closed until 1 July are ALL National Parks in Alaska to include Glacier Bay and Denali.

I wouldn't be too anxious about booking a cruise until after a vaccine is developed and people are thoroughly inoculated.   When they start will probably be a different time frame,  probably much earlier.   We are more concerned about a 'safe' carefree cruise.   Safe travels if you go in May.

Agree.  In fact, our "dance card" is now empty until July 2021, and we're even a bit hesitant about that one unless there is a vaccine developed by then.

Apply a little common sense. Think about this for a few seconds.  Reflect on what has transpired in other countries and what others in this industry are doing.

 

Now ask yourself that question again.  And while you are at it ask yourself why HAL is still selling those April cruises.  As usual, HAL is a little behind the curve.

Yes, the very best case scenario I read in an interesting article by a very-experienced virus researcher will be if an effective vaccine can be rolled out in the year to18 months  ahead, produced in quantity quickly, and many people get the vaccine starting with health care providers. (Some people we all know do not believe in vaccines and may not get it.) Part of the “best case” they hope for also is that some kind of immunity is experienced in those who have a case of the virus and survive it. The idea is that 80% of the population develops a herd immunity from one or the other source, and then it might start to be considered controlled, when 80% are no no longer spreading it to others.

Good morning all!

Well for us we are looking at 2022! 
We hope things will be back to normal 

or should I say a new normal by then!

We still have a cruise on the books with

HAL in10 months but reality check we will push it out further!

With our cruises canceled 1 on Rotterdam from which we were sent home from PV

in March 15th not going through Panama Canal and with Oceania on our continuation to The Med in a TA And a b2b 

in Europe, this up coming year for us is too soon! So we will hold on to all our monies returned and All our FCC’s and pray all will settle down soon!

We all have no idea how long we will be without cruising.  The majority of cruise lines suspended cruises when there were about 2800 Coronavirus cases in the US.  Intelligent, logical and reasonable people would think that it would only be safe to start cruising when the number of confirmed cases at least drops back below that number.  The US is now closing in on 40,000 document cases.  Buy a few good books and grab a chair, you will not be cruising tomorrow

We have bookings in September and December 2020, and January 2021 but not holding my breath.  What will be will be.

No one knows.  HAL doesn't know either.

 

I would not look to the ability to book as any indication.  HAL will continue to take bookings as not only does it indicate future business operations, but it is also a source of much needed revenue right now.  According to its 2019 Annual Report, Carnival Corp received $4.9 billion in passenger deposits.  These deposits are all recorded as a liability for the company.

 

There is so much uncertainty in the world of business right now.  One thing I would caution anyone making a future booking and paying a deposit to not only HAL but with any company (I am seeing lots of suggestions on social media encouraging people to buy pre-paid gift cards to support small businesses) is that you should be prepared to never see those funds again should this business be forced into bankruptcy.  I would not be putting a deposit down for any service/product in the coming months unless I felt for 100% certain that a business will survive this crisis.  I can't think of many that I feel confident about.

I don't think the fall of 2020 is totally out of the question, Might be too optimistic, but if new treatments are effective, (and they look like it), and readily available, Fall is possible..........   But we still need to wait & see, there are a lot of if's and many bad things can happen between now and then

We have a South Pacific booked for Feb 2021, but feel it's about 50-50 on whether those islands will be accepting ships by then. We also have an extensive, expensive, escorted land tour booked for Sept 2020 in SPAIN and already not holding out hope...
