Arzeena Posted January 19 #113255 Share Posted January 19 (edited) @ValerieJo I hope your cruise is wonderful. I just wanted to know if you went to Trois Iselt and to the Bakou in Martinique and what were your thoughts. We will be there in March again. Can't really capture it in a picture but there is a lot of snow just swirling around. Feels like I'm living in a snow globe. Rare h20skibum Posted January 19 #113260 Share Posted January 19 The question is, who is rushing out Monday to buy an Applebee’s Date Night Pass? I will just stop with that. I was going to add a video of date night at Applebee’s, but I thought…..Yeah, that one will get me in trouble! 1

Our daughter's Rescue dog Lola, who is originally from Alabama, last night took one look at the snow and said"nope"! When my daughter got home from work today, Lola was enjoying playing in the snow with my grandsons..she just likes to run inside to dry her feet, and wants to go back outside again 😊

Pouring rain today (again;) Cape Coral has had heavy flooding for two days already this week . I have never known us to have as much rain as we have been having this past month. I should've gone to the pool instead of clothes shopping yesterday. I sure blew it! My boss's Wife was telling me they had 8 or 9 inches of rain in 3 hrs. We had 6 to 7 inches of snow today. I got out of work a little early then we shoveled out 2 neighbors. Relaxing now with some adult hot chocolate....mine has Kaluha and Eric's has peppermint schnapps

I hope so too! We haven't been to the beach yet, I've been in the pool only once (and then it rained) if it's not raining, it's cool out, etc. I have never experienced this weather in the 24 years we've been coming here. I usually have a nice tan going by now... But again, at least I don't have the heat on, and we're not sloshing around in snow, so I do have to stop complaining. Mea culpa!

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted January 20 #113272 Share Posted January 20 Good morning. Ferry to Watsons Bay and walk today. Afterwards, we sat in the park near the ferry wharf and had fish & chips for lunch. Whilst BIL was holding his battered fish and chatting to me, a seagull swooped in and snatched it…. 8 1

sgmn Posted January 20 #113274 Share Posted January 20 (edited) We had a 'Jane Austen' couple of days . On Thursday we visited her home where she lived with her mother and sister and wrote her novels. Her home, a normal village house gifted to the ladies by her wealthy brother the small table where she wrote her novels The home of her brother about half a mile away on the edge of the village It was fascinating learning about her life and large family. A lot of her life was in her books. I.e. one of her brothers was taken on by rich relatives and left three estates (Mansfield Park). They lived in a house gifted by a rich relative who lived nearby (Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion). She was a daughter of a clergyman, as was the main character in Northangar Abbey. They lived in Bath for several years and Bath is important in Persuasion. Two of her brothers were Admirals in the Navy and she used them as role models for the navy officers in Persuasion Edited January 20 by sgmn 14
sgmn Posted January 20 #113275 Share Posted January 20 (edited) Yesterday we visited Winchester Cathedral. Winchester traces its roots back to 150BC and was once the capital of England. Its Cathedral was started in the 11 century. When Jane Austen was ill she travelled there with her sister to get medical help and died in a house very close to the Cathedral. It was normal then to be buried inside the nearest church and this is why she's buried there. She wasn't that well known or famous when she died at age 41, though her novels were beginning to get noticed. During her lifetime her books didn't have her name on them, just 'written by a lady'. She was 'outed' by one of her brothers after her death. The cathedral Her grave inside the Cathedral. It doesn't mention her books at all. But there has since been a window dedicated to her and people leave flowers Edited January 20 by sgmn 18
