My goal on life is to avoid surgery, so far I am successful.

Congratulations! An admirable goal George. But it doesn't always work out that way. 😊

It sounds like bunion surgery. 😀

My little toe on each foot needed to be corrected. The dr didn’t mention anything about having a choice of local or general anesthesia when I had my first foot done and he did it under general. Ended up with a different dr due to a change in insurance for my second foot. He gave me the option of either one. He said he preferred the local and it sounded fine to me. I don’t remember him mentioning I would be awake. He probably did, but I probably didn’t want to think about it. He also explained what he would be doing. Part of it was that he would be using a saw like a hacksaw (his words), but a medical one. I didn’t really think much about it.

Anyway, day of surgery they get me ready and drape a sheet over my stomach so I couldn’t see my feet. Needless to say, being awake I could hear the saw going to work. 🫨 I started to freak out (inwardly) and was telling them I could hear it. Dr asked if I could feel any pain. No, but I could feel him touching me. No pain, but just a light touching on my foot. Ok, no problem he says and he continues. I continue to tell him I can hear it. I guess he wasn’t that concerned since I told him I still felt no pain.

It was probably after my third complaint about hearing the noise that the nurse tells the anesthesiologist that she had brought her Walkman (this was about 37 years ago) in to work. He tells her to go get it. They put that on me and I was happy I couldn’t hear the sawing, but my mind was having all kinds of visions about what was going on with my foot. If I’m ever in that position again, I’ll definitely be bringing ear plugs.

Hi CC friends!  It has been a rough 10 days.  As some already know from that other site that shall remain nameless, I lost my dear father very unexpectedly on April 18th.  He was in good health up to the very end and would have been 88 this August.  I returned home today after a week down in North Carolina, where he lived, to help my sister take care of all the "things".  My sister moved down there from NJ last summer.  While I am still a little bit in shock that he is gone (my mother died in 2014), I am so thankful he was living life to the fullest up to the very end and we were all together the first weekend of April for a fun filled time.  My father had moved into a lovely independent living community in the fall of 2022 so he had downsized quite a bit which was very helpful this past week as were emptying his apartment.  I also urge everyone to have all their important papers organized in a file for your loved ones, should anything happen unexpectedly as did for us.  Even though we knew where all the "stuff" was he still had little post it notes all over his desk of passwords for his computer.  😃  We will be having a Celebration of Life in the summer down in NC for him.

Jennifer, so sorry for your loss.

That sounds like what I have heard about foot surgery. It would be pretty awful. When my close co-worker had bunion surgery, they actually told her to bring headphones. and music.

We were in a hot tub at a conference several years later. I held up my foot and asked if hers had looked like mine. She also said O-M-G. No. Hers weren't nearly that bad. The podiatrist also said mine were really bad. But my toes don't overlap, and wide shoes seem to be fine. I was actually scheduled for surgery, but I chickened out.

Interesting that you mention ear plugs. This past Christmas I got a new set of noise cancelling ear buds that connect by blue tooth to my phone. When I activate the noise cancelling it is a bit eerie how it blocks out the surrounding world. It actually bothers me to be so disconnected from my surroundings. I get concerned during flights that I'll miss an anouncement about something. I guess I have way too much FOMO. However, they would probably be great in the OR during surgery IF I were ever to be on the wrong side of the table rail.

@A&L_Ont I think that if Owen ever needs extra income during his adult life, he could probably have a career in the sales of hockey sport memorabilia. Amazing! 😊

If he could have sold all the high fives from the players he could be a wealth young man.

You may remember about a month ago, Ricky, my daughter’s cat ended up in the hospital for a blood transfusion.  He was diagnosed as anemic, and his PCV (I think that is the correct term) was down to 9.  When he was released, it was up to 22, which was still a little low.

Today, will be the fourth time I have taken him to the vet for a blood test, as they continue to monitor how he is doing.  He is still on steroids, and a second round of antibiotics.  Tomorrow we will find out where his numbers are.  They have been up to 30 and down to 16.

He was not happy when I put him in his carrier.

I am not sure, but I think this is his evil eye, once I brought him back home.

How about some baseball food porn. We didn’t have one of every item but we probably had more than half of the items.

Between the items below pop corn, peanuts and a couple hot dogs were consumed. Lisa only had the items noted below.

Owen started with the Oreo snack.  Yes that’s an oversized spoon.

I had the lobster roll.

Owen also had the chicken fingers

and poutine too. Lisa had one as well.

I had the brisket and Mac n cheese. Could have been better.

Lisa had the strawberry parfait.

While Owen had the double burger. Looked bad, tasted amazing.

I had this little chocolate dessert

and this Score (Canadian chocolate bar) cheese cake pop.

I'd like to think that they still do it, but if you are ever in Toronto see about taking tours of Scotia Bank Arena and Rogers Centre. We did them with a friend who visited from Alberta and he loved it.  You get to see behind the scenes and in the arena we got to go into the home and away change rooms for hockey and basket ball. Since baseball was in season we didn't get that extra part of the tour fro Sky Dome.

I am getting very excited because we are going on the Beyond for a 6 night cruise, in 12 days. Ports are Coco Cay, Grand Cayman and Bimini.

Never been to Bimini before. Could have chosen more "interesting" itinerary but this is what Celebrity allowed us to move our reservations to after cancelling a couple of Beyond sailings that would have had some date conflicts.
We have been on the Edge three times and I loved it. I hope ours is not a "rattling" room that people are complaining about.

But my major excitement is about the small possibility that Captain Kate will be on board.....either as Captain or cruiser. And those mini lemon meringue tarts at Bacio.......😁🥰 umm umm umm!

Most likely not the greatest place to ask this question but has anyone ever taken a Rick Steves  Tour?

We are looking to take  Best of Europe in 21 Days Tour in the fall of 2025

 https://www.ricksteves.com/tours/europe/europe-21-days#tour-dates

The tour groups are small, 24 to 28 people which I think would make it nice.

We have canceled our side by side cruises we had planned for this May to Europe and Norway Fjords Cruises.

Just though for traveling that far to Europe we wanted to see and do more then we could ever do on cruise stops.

Granted this wouldn't get us to Norway, but at a later time we might do a cruise up that way in the future.

Anyone here ever taken one of their tours?

Capt. Kate does daily short videos on YouTube. She was supposed to start her off rotation I think a week or two ago but her contract was extended for a couple of weeks for a reason that I don't remember. I don't know if she has another 12 days left or not.

I didn't really care for her at first as I thought she was kind of a "showboater" sort of like Capt. Johnny on RCI. However, she has grown on me. I find her daily videos informative and entertaining. I think she said something about visiting another X ship when she leaves Beyond where she is meeting up with some friends including Capt. Sandy from Below Deck. I hope you get to sail with her. I'm just not sure of her departure date from Beyond.

We have not but I’d be interested in hearing how yours went.  One problem I have with land tours is the packing and unpacking. But of course you do see more in depth.  River cruises, for us, is a better way to go but not everywhere is accessible by river of course.

I’ve already told Linda if it gets bad I will leave early and come home.

I hope you have a great time Greg.

That house looks amazing.

I left school 50 years ago and only ever seen a couple of old friends for brief conversation only since.

An old girlfriend who married an old friend of mine is actually a cousin of Pauline's and only seen her at a couple of funerals.

You are a saint to spend 5 days with someone you don't particularly like.

They do suggest packing light and some of the hotels actually have washers and dryers where you are allowed to use and wash your own clothes.

Some of the hotels also might not have elevators or real good air conditioners systems........Is this a common thing for some of the hotels in Europe to not have elevators. I guess not all hotels there have AC either? Is this a common thing there?

We have sailed with her as the captain many times on the Summit, Equinox and the Edge. So hoping she is on.
