Pinboy Posted June 15, 2020 #26 Share Posted June 15, 2020 After three " grueling " rounds on sea days, I won the putting contest and received a tshirt with a big " X " on the front. Every time I wear it ( washing my car ) I think of the stress of that final round . We were 6 -- 2 had to hold on to their cane and 1 hung on to his walker. The " gallery " of 8 cheered like crazy as they presented the xxx ( insert foul language ) tshirt. The winner ( me ) accepted the prize with a resounding " THAT'S IT ?????? Like I said, most weren't what I would consider freebies...more like special perks that I've already paid for. But the list includes: extra entree at dinner champagne at a captains reception a charm for visiting the gift shop I stopped the video there... An upgrade to a balcony cabin on day 2 of the cruise.

Wow! You were living right. I didn't even realize that Celebrity did such things. I'm guessing that was before the bidding process was adopted. What a nice treat! davekathy Posted June 15, 2020 #31 Share Posted June 15, 2020 (edited) We always receive a bottle of wine for each future cruise we book while onboard. We also consider the CC HH drinks and snacks as a freebie. Edited June 15, 2020 by davekathy

We did once, for my husband's birthday, to be served at dinner. Asked for it the night before. Next night, the birthday, nothing happened. I expressed my disappointment as we were leaving the dining room that night. Deer in the headlights OMG so sorry! Later that night we had the cake delivered to our cabin, then the next night another at dinner. I don't need that many cakes, we just wanted the "Happy birthday" recognition. Better just to keep mouth shut and celebrate privately. Sorry you had that experience. That has not been my experience with Celebrity. I've yet to celebrate a birthday on a Celebrity ship (this year it was supposed to happen, but that cruise was cancelled). I have, however, helped many friends celebrate birthdays and anniversaries on board, and it was fun. It sounds as if they went out of their way to make up for the ball they dropped. Guess that wasn't enough for you. They're human too and humans drop the ball occasionally. It's what they do after that that separates the good from the bad.
Orator Posted June 15, 2020 #33 Share Posted June 15, 2020 Celebrity has never given something to me that wasn't a part of a loyalty benefit or available to all passengers. That is not to say that I've never received anything special, for I have. All "extras" have come as result of the generosity of officers and crew that we have known for many years. The list includes model ships, special dinners, extra large and decorated cakes on special occasions, special wines and snacks delivered to our cabin. I should end there since the list is growing. Get to know the crew and treat them with respect and they will remember.

Our experience has been in line with yours. Last November our Butler got wind that we were celebrating our anniversary when we made dinner reservations via the concierge in Michael's club. Later that afternoon, we returned to our cabin and the following set up was waiting for us! It was a very nice and unexpected touch.
Bill Miller Posted June 15, 2020 #35 Share Posted June 15, 2020 Kindness. A smile when you know they are working so hard and it's tough to provoke a grin. That moment when you've made a human connection with your cruise staff and it extends deeper than their providing professional service to guests. A great sunset. Being spritzed by a summer rain squall on the veranda.
Doctor G Posted June 15, 2020 #36 Share Posted June 15, 2020 On one cruise I signed up for a future cruise, and they were having a drawing to win a diamond necklace. I won that necklace! The necklace wasn't bad; it was a small circular pendant with black diamonds on one side and white diamonds on the other side.

Hopefully, before year's end we will return to the glory days of cruising Celebrity🙏. Barb

mayleeman Posted June 16, 2020 #40 Share Posted June 16, 2020 People are being too picky about that article. It is intended for cruisers who do not have high loyalty status and who have received dozens of perks over years of cruising. Extra desserts or entrees could be considered free if the frame of reference is a nice dinner out in a land restaurant where you do not get such things with most meals.
mailmama Posted June 16, 2020 #41 Share Posted June 16, 2020 Back in late 90's, we celebrated our 20th anniversary on the Galaxy. We were given an anniversary box from guest relations. It contained 2 plush Terry bathrobes, bottle of champagne, 2 celebrity champagne glasses and a picture frame. We were so surprised! Our room stewardess even had a roll of packing tape/scissors available for us to use to ship on our plane ride home! We were never sure how the word got out, but it was the nicest touch! That's why we love Celebrity!

My husband happened to mention that this was a "special" birthday cruise to the Captain's Club hostess. We also got bottles of wine and champagne on a cruise to celebrate our anniversary. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary on a westward TA called Boston, Broadway & Bermuda on Silohouette. I even signed up online for a "celebration". We received bupkis. At least they comped drinks in the casino for most of the cruise. But it still was a great cruise, especially our pre-cruise days in London. Rare Pennstatedj Posted June 16, 2020 #44 Share Posted June 16, 2020 When the infinity was first commissioned we had a booking for 12 nights. 10 days before X called and cancelled cruise. They gave us choice of any cruise to replaced. We chose two cruises of 7 nights each. That is the best we ever got for free. The infinity was delayed because of new electric engine trouble. I'm told that the word is derived from the Yiddish word kozebubkes, which is roughly translated as "goat droppings." I did not realize Celebrity had that available on board. Back to the original question, though, on our first Celebrity trip (westbound transpacific), we were invited to an officer-sponsored dinner in Tuscan Grill, which included dinner and drinks. The food quality was so-so, but the conversations and total experience were great. Edited June 16, 2020 by ExArkie Corrected a mistake

Really unfair statement. We were totally gracious and thankful to the M'd for the 2 cakes. I'm saying here, in private, I would never bother to ask for another.
