Saw your edit   yes Gisborne is correct  two points which is close enough

 

The creator Murray Ball lived just outside Gisborne....

 

They're outside the library.....  and a bit of trivia.. a friend of the late Mr Ball took the photo for me. as the better half was busy....

Although Footrot Flats was set somewhere near Kimbolton, north-east of Palmerston North and Feilding.

Funny thing is      can't stand chocolate eclairs.....  but most other chocolate things are fair game...

Yes i do remember reading that......  I must admit I was  quite taken aback when i came across the statues... to see a life size comic book character ( and later film star )... 

the other people from the ship thought I was mad..... as they had no idea who they were.......     

And a copy of the photo is in the lounge at home.....

Back in the day Footrot Flats had cult status. Dog was our ships unofficial mascot. He even featured on our special beer bottle labels.
