Your Honest Opinion of Lawn Club and Rooftop Garden Grill

I have recently reserved these two restaurant venues for two different upcoming cruises.  I have read several reviews lately where people have had bad experiences and lots of wind while eating.  Personally I do not want to eat while the wind is swirling around me, and I'm afraid that's what happens on the top decks....

If you have eaten at these two restaurants, I would love to hear your experiences both good and bad.  Thanks.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Lawn Club on the Reflection in Jan 2020.  They have the plastic shades to raise and lower depending on the wind.  The only comment would be to share the appetizers and/or flatbreads...a lot of food!

We are booked there for the first night of our Silhouette sailing in June.

I mentioned this in a recent post. We’ve done Lawn Club several times and to be honest it’s always the most underwhelming of the specialty restaurants. We tried Rooftop Grill last month. No wind issues when we visited and the menu is a bit better but it was also unmemorable  overall.

The menus in both restaurants still need work.

We’ve sailed twice on the Silhouette and eaten at the Lawn Club Grill several times. We love it. Wind isn’t usually an issue, unless you decide to have dinner there on a very cold night during a windstorm on a late fall North Atlantic crossing. (Hmm, I wonder who did that? 🤣)

We have two upcoming cruises on the Silhouette and are really looking forward to eating at LCG again.

I think it's the worst value on the ship, lunch doesn't include any BBQed meats other thank pork sliders and dinner only has a full rack of ribs or sliced brisket for $45.  Dinner can be on sale to $39 but generally when its on sale so are other specialty restaurants.  Much better value to pay the $10/person and go else where, at Fine Cut get a Tomahawk for two or enjoy the food at the Eden.

Wind problems are a consistent problem with debris flying around; several reviews and videos on it.

We reaver have been to the Lawn Grill on 4 cruises.  Food was  very good, service was excellent and no wind issues.  One of our visits it was cold but between tghe heaters and a blanket around our legs it was fine.  We have a reservation there inFebrusry.

we have done the Rooftop Grill twice.  1st time was a late night in port so the ship was docked.   It was a beautiful evening, food was very good as was the service.

2nd time we were departing port so not moving very fast but it was a bit windy.  No food flying just napkins, got served quickly and within 5 mins of getting food it started to pour down rain.  There were 10-12 of us in the restaurant at the time and the staff escorted us down a crew stairway to the OV. They set up a section for us, remade all our dinners and refunded the charge.  The meal was excellent.

Two separate cruises on the Reflection and on both trips we dined at the Lawn Club. Both times it was underwhelming. Both food and service lacked. We had the Roof Top booked for the Edge but I canceled it. Have read enough comments about the wind. It’s not worth taking a chance with the price.

Did not do Rooftop on our one Edge sailing. Did LCG on Silhouette on a night that was perfect, a little chilly, but it is sheltered with heaters and they gave throws on request. We were docked overnight on Bermuda. Unfortunately everyone on board, including the entire senior staff were there for dinner (have no clue who was on watch, the Captain, XO?, all Dept heads, cruise director, she ran in between gigs, everyone was seated at this big table). There was some vip there that was being hosted. Not sure what was happening, but after much cell phoning, the head chef came up to help, but it didn’t matter, all our food was late, burned or slightly underdone. Dessert was great. We saw some people we had met on ship sitting in the Porch, their reservation had been completely lost, it just goes on and on. I liked the concept, the execution needed work.

Just that little bit of breeze gave the cooks fits with flare-ups at the grill, I would be selective about when I went.

We liked the Lawn Club grill on the Silhouette and will dine there on our next time on her.

We did not eat at any specialty restaurants on the Edge if that is where the Rooftop Garden Grill is located. I didn't even want to spend time on the Rooftop Garden in December 2018 because there was limited shade to be found.

We ate dinner at the Lawn Club Grill on Reflection several years ago...loved it so much that we booked lunch on a sea day.  Our October TA on Reflection has been cancelled...missing the LCG dinner will be one of many disappointments.

Dinner on RGG on Edge in 12/19 was also very good.  When we arrived for our reservation, the skies opened up and it began to pour.  Everyone that was seated moved under cover.  We were allowed to come back in an hour when the rain stopped and it was a beautiful night.  First thing we did when we booked Edge last week was make a reservation for RGG.

We love it...the food, service and eating under the stars!

The Lawn Club Grill offers  delightful gourmet burgers at lunch on (some) sea days. Watch the daily paper.

It's a nice alternative to the MDR,  or the zoo that is the lunch  buffet on sea days, especially on longer cruises.

Is this Laurie...sailed with you on Caribbean Princess a few years back?

We have had dinner at the Lawn Club grill on both Silly and Reflection, twice each. Nice ambiance, pleasant enough experience, but for the price I much prefer the menu at Tuscan Grill. Service was slower than I would like, but not terrible on both ships. And the flatbreads were no better than the pizza in the  buffet. No wind issues.

We love both the Lawn Club Grill and Roof Top Garden - have eaten at both several times (on the Silhouette and Edge respectively). You are going to get negative reviews on every speciality restaurant in the fleet. You will find that the number of positive reviews of both the LCG and RTG far exceed the negative reviews.

So sorry to read negative reviews on Lawn Club Grill.  We have eaten there 4 times (Silhouette) and every time it was outstanding.  The last time it was cold and they offered us another dinner gratis.  I hope it has not declined as it's a few years since we have sailed on Silhouette.

We love the Lawn Club Grill and have done it on every cruise that it is available.  Last cruise we we went back a second time.  We love the casual atmosphere, eating outside and the fact that menu is different than any of the other restaurants.  Wind hasn't been an issue....there are the side shades that can be closed if it is.

Hi Susan,  Yes, finally taking that same 14 day on the CB again, but not till Jan 2023. You should come along!

That was a great itinerary on a beautiful ship.  I just might see you there!!!

Thanks to all who responded.  Based on these reviews, I think I will cancel these reservations and go with another specialty restaurant.  Better to be safe than sorry.....😏

Muranos has the best food IMHO.  Tuscan has the views out the back of the ship.
