JazzyV Posted September 6, 2021 #126 Share Posted September 6, 2021 Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily. Good days. Happy Labor Day! I do need to fight procrastination on a few chores that need to be done. And I'll read a book too. Good quote. I'll pass on the meal with cockles (not a shellfish or fish person), drink and wine. I'll take Roy's meal. I have been to Rome, although not on a ship, and not to Civitavecchia. Thanks for the pictures. It's a nice day here, after rain off and on yesterday. Sunny, mid-70's, low humidity. I had opened a window last night and was cold when I woke up. I have no special plans for today. Happy Rosh Hashanah to those who celebrate. @StLouisCruisers Happy Anniversary! Beautiful picture of your wedding day. @dfish Sorry to hear your friend Donna won't be able to take the cruise, but it sounds like it's for the best. @JAM37 It's good that DH is getting better sleep. Unfortunate that he's still that short of breath. @durangoscots Hugs. It sounds like it's a bit tough for you right now; good for you for following all your care instructions. Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list. Stay safe everyone and wear your mask if needed. We had 912 new Covid cases in our county over the past 72 hours - yikes! 19

I have been reading, but not commenting the past few days - just have not felt like it. I am still having to bandage my face which makes peeking around the edge of the bandage a little uncomfortable for me. Supposedly they will remove the stitches on Wednesday morning. I certainly hope so. I have been faithfully following all instructions about care but it still looks rather nasty to me. My eye is lovely shades various colors. I have been avoiding going out any where anyone other than my immediate neighbors can see me. Bandit longs for full walks. To my surprise, I have been able to sleep well at night. Stay well everyone. The covid numbers here are up although not as high as other areas. A friend of mine has had symptoms but fortunately I have not see her for awhile. She is resisting getting tested but is staying at home. Susan Oh dear Susan. I’m sorry you are uncomfortable 😞 I hope the stitches are removed on Wednesday and they are very happy with your recovery. 🙏🏻
CrabbyPatti Posted September 6, 2021 #128 Share Posted September 6, 2021 Good Morning Everyone, I took Holly (the pup) for a walk this am and then came back to look at the daily and it is to page 5 all ready! What a combination of days! I love to read a good book, to the point it can make me procrastinate at getting other things done! I just downloaded 3 more kindle books last night. I really prefer real books but the kindle books are easier for taking with me. @rafinmd I too read New Zealand Cookies at first, and was thinking why would I want Linguine with Cookies, and just what is a New Zealand cookie! @StLouis CruiserCongratulations and Happy Anniversary! Hope all are doing well. Son with Covid feels just fine now, but still tests positive (he only had "headache and head cold feeling for about 3 days") maybe that is all he felt as he was vaccinated, if his employer hadn't sent him to be tested we may not of even known he was positive. Hubby and I are still staying home for a few more days, even though we feel fine. Just would not want to potentially expose anyone, and there are just too many unknowns with this darn virus. Take care and enjoy your day. Denise 19

Still smoke from CA, OR, WA, and BC. @durangoscots, take care. Hope you are doing better very quickly. StLouisCruisers Posted September 6, 2021 #130 Share Posted September 6, 2021 I'm sitting here enjoying looking at my photos from Civitavecchia taken in 2018. As we walked to town from the shuttle bus drop off point, we passed by this huge church. Check out these doors Luckily it was open so we went inside. Then we walked to the market which was very nice. All the locals were there doing their weekend shopping. Then we walked to the train station. We had been there before to take the train into Rome. Today we were just people watching. Buying tickets Departure board Bye bye! Then we walked across the road and started looking for a hotel we had stayed at in 2014. It was the end of a Prinsendam cruise with a Celebrity cruise one day later. That's a whole other story about the Celebrity ship not making it into port to pick up new passengers prior to a TA. Anyway, turns out the hotel was closed for good in that 4 year gap. I think it was the yellow building here. Walking along on this nice route to get back to the ship. We took a photo of the Hotel San Giorgio across the street. We would be staying there overnight on our next Civitavecchia visit. It's the middle building. It was a great day to stay in town.

DH and I along with our 2 kids, their spouses and the 6 grandkids went on a cruise in early July followed by several days in Rome. Boy, was it hot that week! Record setting hot! Your tour sounds much nicer without the crowds and probably not the heat involved. I don't blame you for not going back since. Still, our family says that was a great vacation which I appreciate them saying. We all went that summer to celebrate our 50th. Rather hard to do it in September with 6 in "school" and daughter teaching and son "professoring". 😂 Sandi, that is a lovely wedding picture of two great looking people. I'm glad the photos reminded you of your tour and anniversary cruise. We boarded the Veendam on July 2 in Civitavecchia and headed to Venice by way of Ephesus, Crete and Athens, and it was a hot July. It was so hot in Athens, they closed the Parthenon from 1 to 5 pm. That was the cruise we stayed on for 67 days back to Boston and were in Civitaveccha three more times. We went to Rome once, Ostiea Antica once and stayed in town the last time. We have been to Civitaveccha 12 times. Lenda 15
StLouisCruisers Posted September 6, 2021 #132 Share Posted September 6, 2021 @sailingdutchythanks for all your beautiful photos of areas around Civitavecchia! Love the luncheon at your guide's home. @JazzyVthanks for your good wishes, Vanessa. I hope you enjoy the final day of this holiday weekend. @CrabbyPattithanks to you as well. I'm glad to hear your son is doing okay. @Quartzsite Cruiserthanks again. Like you we really enjoy a taking it easy kind of day while on busy cruises. It's a great stop on any Med. cruise. 10

XBGuy Posted September 6, 2021 #138 Share Posted September 6, 2021 I just returned from an adventure behind the Orange Curtain, I had breakfast with my brother and his wife. That was a lot of fun. Then, I stopped by Total Wine and picked up a reprovisioning order that I had submitted a few days ago. Being on the Total Wine mailing list I get lots of coupons that are pretty cool. I spent quite a bit of money, but I have convinced myself that I saved a lot, also. [Insert "Eye Roll" emoticon, here,] 7 hours ago, richwmn said: Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public. - H. L. Mencken One of my favorit quotations--almost. The version I always knew is, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." The other thing I thought was that while the quote is attributed to H.L. Mencken, nobody has ever found where he wrote it. Today, I found a website that quotes Mencken which if not the exact wording of the well-known quotation, sure is a similar sentiment. "No one in this world, so far as I know—and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me—has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people." Keep all this in mind. It may come up in a Trivia contest. 😁
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 6, 2021 #139 Share Posted September 6, 2021 I'm procrastinating a little today, as I'm still going through all the pictures from Rome and Civitavecchia. I found a couple from 2017 as the Prinsendam set sail for her next port. The sunset over the ocean I turned around, and there was the moon rising over Civitavecchia and Fort Michelangelo. Going to our guides home in a beautiful medieval town , visit her "Secret Garden " and have a wonderful lunch . Their back yard all set up for a concert or an opera performance in the "Secret Garden " A very happy group after a wonderful day on a tour from Civitavecchia , we will have to do this again hopefully soon ........ Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 6, 2021 #143 Share Posted September 6, 2021 Here are a few more pictues from various times we were in Rome. These were taken while on different cruises on BHBs, and they show some of the other highlights of Rome. Usually, we were there in the spring or fall, The one excepton was in 2019 on the Veendam, when we were there during the height of the summer tourist season. The Spanish Steps The Pantheon, which is now a Catholic church. The iconic oculus in the roof of the Pantheon, that engineers to this day have not figured out how it was constructed when it was built from 113-125 AD. The Trevi Fountain and the crowds in 2019 Crowds around the Coloseum, and this was in the fall. The monument to Victor Emanuel II who united Italy. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 6, 2021 #144 Share Posted September 6, 2021 Even though I have been concentrating on pictures, I have been reading the daily, too. Happy Rosh Hashanah to all on CC who are celebrating beginning at sundown today. @mamaofami Carol, I hope you and Sam enjoyed your day at the pool.. @HAL Sailer Good that the sazzy walker is helping your DH walk and gain strength. @sailingdutchy Tony, thanks for the pictures of the area outside of Civitavecchia. It gives us another place to consider visiting in the future. I especially loved the picture of the purple iris, my favorites. @durangoscots Susan, I hope the stitches come out Wednesday, and that any banadage is smaller. Hope you heal quickly. @ger_77 I wouldn't have thought of watering plants with beer. I have some old beer in the fridge in Quartzsite. If it's bad, I might see if our cactus and desert trees like beer. 🍺 😁 @grapau27 Loved your story of your visit to Rome. That was quick thinking. @Horizon chaser 1957 It will be interesting to see what your unofficial son is sending your. Great picture. @CrabbyPatti Glad you son is feeling better, but sorry the tests are still positive. Hope that changes soon. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, I hope your test Friday gives you some answers and that getting rid of the cough is an easy fix. @Av8rix My DH is an mechanical engineer and likes looking at ship's engines or any engines. On our first cruise in 1987, he and two other men asked to see the engine room, and the request was granted. I would have liked to see it too, but was not included. At least he got to see the diesel engines. The ship was the Costa Daphne, which was built in 1956 as a refrigerated cargo ship and later converted to a cruise ship. This was also way before the stritcher security rules. Now, I think I'll go read my book. I too like mysteries, spy trhrillers and the like. Rare Vict0riann Posted September 6, 2021 #146 Share Posted September 6, 2021 Good, afternoon, Labour Day is almost over, and I have procrastinated long enough. Happy Anniversary to @StLouisCruisersand your DH, and thank you to everyone who posted all the lovely pictures today. And it is always fun to go on a memory trip though photos of our travels. We have been to Civi many times, too, starting or ending cruises, or as a middle point on a B2B. A few times we've taken a day trip to Rome, doesn't matter how many times you go to Rome, there's always something new (old...) to see. And a few times we have hung around in Civi itself, or nearby.
