Good afternoon.  It's been busy trying catch up on some things on the computer and print out some of the things we need for the cruise.  We have our boarding time, but will wait to print the boarding passes and luggage tags until we have a cabin.  No need to print them twice.

Our temperature did get to 69F, but even with clear skies, the air still does not look good.  I think a lot of the dust still has not settled out of the air.  😒

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for the list, Rich & Roy. Prayers of care for all who need them, and also prayers of thanksgiving for all that are celebrating!

I'm celebrating this morning because DS called early to say that he has a new job. He sounded like he was over the moon! He's been going through a pretty rough patch lately, so he really deserved something good! I'm thrilled, of course!❤️

Other exciting news is that I just booked the first segment of the 2024 GWV! First time I've booked a guarantee, so we'll see how this turns out. I wish I could stay on longer than Honolulu, but at least I'll get to have a partial experience of a Grand Voyage! And I'll hit one of my bucket list items -- the Opera House in Manaus!!

Edi

Here's a giggle for you --Dog.gif.4b8146c528a357ef0b3349028961f0db.gif

Edi, good for you on booking the segment of the 2024 GWV.  You'll like the Manaus Opera House.  It is impressive for such an out of the way town.  Glad you DS is happy and has a new job.

Good afternoon. Sun is out but we may get rain this afternoon or maybe even some light snow. Figures. The roofing material for the shelter arrived today and I went out to sign for it and watch them start lifting it on to the roof. They planned to start work Monday, but we have another storm scheduled for then and that one looks more serious. Knew this would happen. Nothing we can do except wait it out.

Susan

Hope they get that roof fixed soon.  Be careful in the upcoming storm.

Just a little bit of Dailyite news.  @Lady Hudson has posted on our roll call that she has her covid results (she's currently onboard) and is good to go for the second leg of the B2B.

Roy

That's good news about @Lady Hudson failing her test.  Hope you both enjoy the cruise and visiting.

As mentioned in my earlier post we were in Oman on a Suez Canal cruise on the Seabourn Pride in 2012. Oman is a country that I never, in my wildest imagination, ever thought that I would travel to. We had two ports there - Salalah and Khasab.

When we returned to the ship the nearby pier was full of small boats off loading flocks of goats and sheep - a very entertaining view. Later, at dusk, the small boats had been filled with goods and covered in canvas tarps and left port in large numbers.  We were told the small boats were smuggling consumer goods to Iran which is quite close to Oman from the port at Khasab. They return in the morning with the live stock.

Who knows what was really being traded. We felt our best course of action was to keep our mouths shut.  I will attach a couple of photos of the “trade”..

That's for the information on Oman and the smugglers.  Sometimes it is best not to ask too many questions.  Thanks for the pictures.

yea ain't that a crock.  I mean really.

I find that I am enjoying some of the Olympics but not all.  I watched and like the cross country skiing and the freestyle skiing.  They have loose clothes on the men and woman snowboarders too.

We've watched some of the Olympics, mostly the biathlon, some skiing, snowboarding and mostly curling.  We have been rooting for the US, but knew their chances were not good, and for Canada.

Good afternoon!

Thanks to everyone who posts.  Love all the pictures.  Good quote and important days today.

Roy, have a wonderful cruise.  You deserve it.

Jacqui, praying for Jose's blood work to improve so he gets the procedure he needs.  Praying for extra strength for you also.

Graham, good news about Josh.

Rich, thank you for the news of today.

Prayers to all of you.  We can all use extra prayers.

Cheers and celebrations to those celebrating.

I am enjoying listening to my grandson and his friend practice their trumpets. They have been at it for about an hour!!   It is an early release day for them and his friend needed a place to hang out until his mom could get him after work.  Glad we are here to help.

Stay well and safe everyone.

It is always interesting to see how the kids progress with their musical instruments.

I can't top @grapau27's food porn pictures, but I did try a version of the Jerk Chicken Lettuce Wrap.  They weren't too spicy, but my definition of spicy might not be the same as yours.  I thought it was pretty tasty.

That looks yummy.  I might use tortillas instead of lettuce, but as I said earlier, it will be fajitas tonight.

This final one strays from the topics, but brings back memories.

May be an image of car

Oh my goodness, that's the little brother to our AMC Javelins!  DH and I had a combined 4 of them early in our marriage.  He started out with a 69 Silver Javelin,  upgraded to a 73 Royal Plum & Gold, then I got my 73 Tallyho Green & White, then for my 50th birthday, DH bought me a 73/74 (it was a hybrid, trust me!) Baby Blue & White.  They were great to drive and went like crazy!  The Gremlins, not so much.  Thanks for the memories!

In case I forget, wishing you both a wonderful cruise; can't wait to hear all about it!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Good evening, I hope everyone had a great day.
My fur babies must have been bored this afternoon. Retuned from running errands to find they had somehow stepped on the remote and turned on the TV,, 😀

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

Late to the party today, but I have been able to read bit by bit.  Roy, hope you have a wonderful cruise.  Jacqui, that is too bad about Jose's blood tests.  I hope they can sort it out.

We got up extra early today to go to Costco for seniors' hour, only to discover that they have discontinued it, and we had to waste an hour in Timmie's before Costco opened at 9.  But it did make us late enough that we only had ten minutes to wait before our version of Total Wine (Everything Wine - I wonder where they got that name....) opened at 10.  Our favourite prosecco was on sale, $2 off a bottle, so we got a case and got another 5% off.

Our temperature got up to 10 today - 50 in real money, and  the daffodils are in flower, along with my hellebores and I even saw a cherry tree trying to bloom while we were out.  Hard to believe, but now that we are past the middle of February, can Spring be far behind?

I saw the Smithsonian cheetahs keeping warm in their heated den, so it must be pretty cold still in Front Royal.  And the SWFL eagle babies look as if they are ready to fledge.

Yes, as Roy said we “passed” our tests.  As a former teacher a negative result somehow doesn’t sound like great news.

I have heard of none of the B2Bers who have to leave the ship so that is wonderful.  Also hearing there maybe changes to the masking rules next cruise.  We shall see.

Prayers to all our HAL family who needs them.   Katherine

It's a sunny day, 21 C, with a slight breeze. Supermarket this morning, everyone we saw were wearing masks.   Some empty spaces on the shelves but many trolleys full of goods waiting to be unpacked.

Thanks for all the contributions to the Daily.

@rafinmd Roy, wishing you a wonderful cruise, hope you get to visit your DB's grave.

@kazusorry to read of Jose's lab results, hope these will soon improve.

@1ANGELCAT a few years ago, we were looking after a neighbours home while they were away, including feeding their cat, one evening I unlocked their door walked in to hear the TV on, thought they must have returned unexpectedly, but no, the cat had climbed up to where the TV remote was kept and turned on the sound. He must have been wanting company!

@ger_77 are you able to return the umopened box of wine?

@puppycanducruise thanks for your reply yesterday, maybe I am over watering it . A few weeks ago repotted it in Orchid mix.

Stay safe, take care everyone.

Oh I fell in love with hellebores when we spent February and March in Victoria in 2018. Mine won’t bloom for another few weeks. And we loved those cherry blossoms.

Well, my dgd who I took to the doctor yesterday has tested positive for Covid. I must say I expected it since her boyfriend was over three days in a row this past weekend and I am sure they weren’t playing cards! So now I need to monitor myself for 5 days. Thank goodness we all have three shots.

Thanks for daily and all of the posts!  Interesting info on Oman!  I was in Muscat on GWV in 2019.

In 2020 we were on Volendam for South America and loved it!  We deviated to iguazu which was spectacular!  We did a ship tour for a night performance at the Manaus opera house which enabled us to really see the inside.

@Sharon in AZ  Hope you do get that rain.  Our chances are 0-1%, definitely not good. 😒

We got enough to wet the ground and make the dust from yesterday a mess. It was only a strong sprinkle at the most. Thank goodness the weather will be nice this weekend so Craig can hose down the patio. 😉

Sorry about that. Maybe best after the cruise.... but still, not desirable. Take care.

We are getting light snow here. Should end tonight. I have an early doctor's appointment tomorrow morning. Hope the roads are ok.

This morning, DH made me a ham and swiss omelet.  It was wonderful!  After reading the Daily, I piddled around the house, and made one of the commissioned necklaces, then went over to walk the neighbors dog, then drove up to Michael's to get stuff to make the second necklace, fixed a grill cheese sandwich, worked for 5 hours, had dinner (i did a crock pot recipe for bbq ribs) and then made the second necklace, found a box to put that in, and then sent my end of day reports, caught up with the email, and then got to come back here, my happy place.  For someone who is retired, I am much too busy.  The necklace for the boy is made with jasper and carved bone, and the daughter's necklace is tumbled sea glass, in an ocean blue with glass starfish.

My boss shared some good news with me, he got promoted, it wont be announced for several months,  he wont be my direct boss anymore.  Sad for me, great for him.  But then he told me that his wife is pregnant (first born is now 7) and I am so happy for them!   When Isabella was born, they went home to Columbia for her christening, and that's when he promoted me, as his assistant. He said they were going back to South America before this baby is born.    I left the part time assistant job after DH took his fall.  Way too much on my plate then.  I left the other part time job a year later, when DH had his heart attack, and just kept my full time job. Until they laid off all the full time employees. try to keep it to one job at a time. Actually I tried  no job, but financially that wasn't a smart move, as I love to cruise.

Olympics, well i've been watching on peacock to stop all the commercials and talking heads.  Which worked until yesterday. I love the snowboard races.  That was fun! I like downhill, and love the skating.  The reason i don't like watching prime time, is they select what they are going to show, I like to see how the worst skater skates, the worst skier skies.  Puts things in prospective.

Gerry, I'm glad I could bring back good memories.  For us as fans of The Dukes of Hazard, it brought back memories of the General Lee.

Thanks for the good wishes for the cruise.  I'm sure we'll enjoy it as we'll be o n a BHB.  I'll try to post from the cruise when I'm able.

Back in the days of just landline phones, my DW was trying to get ahold of me and called home. I was still out, but the cat knocked the receiver off of the cradle and began meowing. DW thought I was joking around, until she got home before me and realized what had happened.

Animals can be fun. I remember when grocery stores first began getting automatic doors. They were activated by a pressure mat outside the door. When someone stepped on the mat the doors would open. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw a dog going up to the mat and opening the door, then stepping back for it to close and doing it again and again.
