Hi Jim

I'm late to your live blog party.  I picked up a travel Aeropress to use on our Sept. Reflection cruise per your recommendation from our Sept 2019 Equinox cruise.  I like my coffee iced, daily, winter or summer.

It's interesting how we are all difference.    I generally like my coffee hot and my tea cold.   Only exception is on hot days a Frappuccino does the trick

Well just received my resultsimage.png.ba69906df05ff0c9368ecf8a346f2623.png

Oh no!  After you have been so careful too.

I have a few cruises coming up, and a supply of good quality masks, and I must confess this has got me concerned.  A cabin on deck 3 fills me with dread and I hope this is not your fate. Good luck with it.

Yikes -  It has been an 1 1/2 hour since the test and no telephone call or contact at this point.   Iain was just looking out the peep hole and I asked are their prison guards out there.

More as this unravels -

By the way I feel perfectly normal, temperature 97.8 (my normal) Oxygen Saturation 99

My heart sank when I saw this. I hope its a false positive. 🙏

Waiting to hear what happens next ......

You guys have been so careful

That must feel a bit unnerving! Do you know whether they’d test you again to make sure it isn’t a false positive?

Just received a phone call from the Doctor at 0900   testing being at 0700.

We will be retested but is of no consequence.    Even if it is False Positive we will not be permitted to continue onto the Norwegian Fjords Cruise.

She asked the following -

Vaccination Dates and type of vaccine

Names of party we are traveling with

Do you have any sympthoms

Do you have any medical conditions like heart or breathing difficulties

Are you allergic to anything.

She then said -   Unfortunately we are out of isolation rooms in the RED ZONE so you will have to remain in your cabin.    That's the only ray of sunshine.     At least it will be just one day but will be interesting to see what happens next.

I have not been out of the cabin a single time without a mask and have avoided as much close contact as possible.   Also I have 99% of the time avoided elevators only using when they were empty.    Also sanitized my hands at every opportunity.    Laurance has been wonderful creating a 10 foot buffer around us so sure was safe there unless the waiter picked up the napkin the guy had blown his nose on and then served us desert.

Just goes to show how virulent this disease is.     We have been wearing N95 masks.

Glad you're staying in your lovely cabin with balcony and only for one day now.

So so sorry for you (and selfishly for us following along) that you will miss the next cruise.

I hope you and Iain continue to feel well and only have a mild dose of this blasted thing

Jim, just heartbroken for you both…

Pleased you can at least stay in your suite for the last day. Hope you don’t start feeling ill. For those of us who have thought ‘As long as we are careful we will be OK’ it is a reminder how cunning this virus is…

Keep us in touch about what happens next…

Oh well.   S--T happens.    I just told Iain maybe I need to book another cruise for next year.   We are on the Apex TA and were planning on spending a week in Amsterdam before the UK Ireland cruise.   The reason for spending a week in Amsterdam was that the next cruise in Norway and would have been a repeat.

So (!) sorry to read this Jim,

I was recently quarantined with COVID on an MSC cruise so I may know how you feel!

Thank you so much for including us in your adventure - I immensely enjoy your live blogs.

I hope, your symptoms stay mild/non existent and Iains too. 🤕

I’m so sorry to hear that! At least you can stay in your lovely suite at least. Just goes to show how tricky COVID can be, even when you take all the precautions 😕

Just checking as nothing else to do -   the RED ZONE is 29 cabins -  So guessing occupancy is between 30 -60.    I know others must be confined to cabins around the ship as I've seen the tables outside rooms.

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, adds to an increasing pool of people who caught it on longer / B2B cruises despite taking considerable precautions. Have a B2B starting in just over a week's time and very concerned about the mid-cruise test.

Yikes indeed!  Since you tested negative yesterday, I’d think you could ask for a retest for a false positive!  Yes, I know this scenario is possible, and you’d have to put a timeline together to see if your vanishing crew members were around you in the window of vulnerability!   Fingers crossed that a retest is always done before banishing you to the 3rd floor!

So sorry to hear this as I know how careful you have been, I was looking forward to seeing you on the ship next week. I have even packed my left handed t-shirt in the case especially. So I have added a photo off one for him.  I picked this up in 2019 just before our last cruise out of Miami.

Though a false positive still negates your next cruise, does it eliminate the need to quarantine on shore?

i was just going to ask this.  From what others have said spouses have often not been allowed to stay in the same room which would explain more rooms needed.

we leave for Venice Tuesday.  Our cruise is requiring mask indoors supposedly because the Italian government says so. Still there are meals where we are around each other etc.  our Travel Agents are with us on this trip as it replaces several cancelations in the last years.  They both have had COVID twice.  This first they weren’t fully vaxed and one of them was hospitalized on oxygen.  Their second bout was milder and they weren’t as adamant about being sure you avoid the virus at all costs!  They were still knocked out for a couple of days.  Hope you are virus free!

Now that you’ve got a positive it seems like you are free not to be tested for the next 90 days!  That just sounds weird especially if it’s true!

Oh @Jim_Iain so sorry to hear the news I know you've been so careful but this strain of the virus is almost impossible to avoid as I know to my own cost!

I hope you are looked after for the immediate future by Celebrity and can then enjoy your trip to Iain's relatives in Scotland.

Stay well

Alun

Sorry to see your news which I have been reading whilst waiting at the doctor's for my second booster ( 4 jabs total). Oh the joy of being over 75. We don' t have a left handed T shirts but we do have left handed nail scissors which are a great help. Hopefully you will still get to Scotland. Hope Iain stays clear. Thanks for all your photos, comments and advice. Geoff and the boss (Anita).

I'm very sorry to hear your news Jim.  I hope you continue to feel okay and that Iain is okay too.

Interesting info about the Red Zone.  Earlier in the week someone posted that they were being isolated in their own cabin (Deck 10, I think it was), which could indicated the Red Zone was full then as you've been told it is today.  However, someone on FB (Celebrity Silhouette group) has posted that they and their wife tested positive yesterday and have been moved to the Deck 3 Red Zone.  I'm just wondering how space became available yesterday, has there been enough time on this cruise for someone to complete their quarantine and be released?
