For JetBlue, sending very Happy Birthday wishes despite the isolation. I am sure that Jim has briefed your Hubby (based on Ian’s example) that this particular birthDAY should become a birthday MONTH — pick May, since April is half over!!

Thank you for sharing your story and doing the right thing. Sending positive vibes that you get out of iso soon and that your DH remains negative.

For cnkgirl, that is Awful!! Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping for a quick recovery for you, and for your friend.

Day 3 update, I woke up this morning feeling better. Still some congestion but the doctor confirmed the fever is completely gone. Unfortunately, my husband tested positive today so he will be joining me on deck 3. I also received confirmation that deck 6 balcony rooms are not available. Apparently, they used to isolate guests on deck 6 but recently changed the policy to use deck 3 only due to it's proximity to the medical center. I assume this might also have something to do with the fact that the next few sailings out of Southampton are nearly full.

The Captain finally made a Covid update announcement this morning. Less than 1% positive breakthrough cases, all mild symptoms. I am quite surprised I managed to get in the less than 1% especially since I've avoided mingling in crowds, should probably go buy a lottery ticket.

Breakfast this morning came from the Aqua Spa Cafe as someone on here recommended. I had the Antioxidant Smoothie and the avocado bruschetta.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Thank you for continuing to share your adventure with us.  It may not seem like a very fun adventure, but I'm sure you'll remember this for the rest of your life - which I hope is long and fruitful.

I highlighted some of your comments in bold & colors so I could easily pick off what I wanted to comment on:

  1. I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm glad you're getting company, but I'm not glad that your husband tested positive.  I hope you both get rid of this infection soon.
  2. I always suspected that some ships and lines use ships close to the medical center, so it's nice to have it confirmed.  Whether they should, especially for an illness like this, is subject to debate elsewhere.
  3. It's good to hear the Captain is making announcements and it's good that, at least on your ship, everyone only has mild symptoms.  I agree that you were unlucky, disagree on the lottery ticket.  Better to put a few bucks on your favorite number at the roulette... oh never mind. 🙃

Hi everyone,

Been a long time since I posted but figured now was as good a time as ever to get back into it. I'm currently onboard the Silhouette's transatlantic crossing and just today woke up with cold chills and congestion. Obviously I wanted to avoid spreading this to anyone else so I called Medical this morning and they promptly arrived at my door with a PCR test and an antigen test for my husband. About an hour later, I tested positive and my husband tested negative. From there we received a visit from guest relations to discuss options and next steps. Security called to start the contact tracing process and finally housekeeping arrived to escort me to an isolation cabin on deck 3. My husband decided to stay in our original room to hopefully avoid catching anything but he will be required to take a test every day and stay masked up in public areas around the ship. All his food and drink must be consumed in his cabin.

So far, the ship staff have done a great job taking care of everything and I received a letter outlining all the details as well.

As for me, I just have a slight fever and congestion but unfortunately no balcony or fresh air in isolation.

Anyway, let me know if anyone has any questions.  This was our 5th cruise back since the pandemic halted cruises and we never got sick once but guess it was my turn today and I certainly had no idea what the process would be like. Please be cautious and wear a mask especially if you are immunocompromised.

David

You have certainly done everything right in terms of personal protocols while on board. Glad you are feeling better.

I know this might be difficult to answer, but is there any chance you can put your finger on how or where this may have occurred?

Were you, by any chance in a larger group environment before you boarded? Were you at the Martini Bar for an extended period where you may have been in close contact with another passenger?

We were on Silhouette on March 28/22 and we saw numerous instances where tour excursion vehicles left port close to capacity and the Martini Bar was the most popular place on the ship. The EFFY store on board held a number of “free draw” events where the store was packed. Our ship exposure was greater than 1%.

I’m just curious to see if you are able to re-trace your steps to see where, or how this may have arisen? It might be valuable information, from an awareness perspective, for current cruisers as well as those looking to cruise in the future.

Thanks so much

Randy

Sorry for your troubles. So good of you to post your experiences. While your husband was still in your original suite, was he also allowed to order room service from any menu? I don't understand why he was supposed to eat all his meals in the cabin but was free to walk all over the ship.

So very sorry to hear this distressing news about your husband. Is it possible for the two of you to isolate in your original suite? I haven’t understood the medical necessity to move infected passengers unless only one person was infected and the other wasn’t. They don’t move you if you are unlucky enough to get norovirus. In any case, you definitely deserve a birthday do-over! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

So sorry to hear about your husband!  Are you in separate cabins?  I don’t know if they keep you apart in case you are able to finish your quarantine and return to your suite, or if they put spouses together.  Unless you request otherwise, I’d hope the former.

Hope you get a birthday do-over when you return home!

When you're eating you have your mask off. He was on allowed to walk all over the ship but with his mask on at all times.

This is a great question and I've really been racking my brain on this one because we are very cautious. We went on lockdown a week before the cruise and did not go out anywhere in public, not even a grocery store. We drove down to Port Everglades by ourselves from Orlando. We arrived at the pier around 11:30 and went through the Retreat check-in, there were maybe 8 other people there but all spaced out in the seats they provided. We boarded via the gangway closest to the Retreat, not a soul around us so I really have to assume we caught it onboard. We haven't been to any shows or activities. We did go to the Retreat lounge a few times but there was never more than 10 people in there. No Martini bar for us but we did frequent World Class Bar every night, however this bar never got crowded so never seemed concerning to me.

The one thing I do remember on night 2, Luminae was very crowded and we got there around 8:00pm. There were maybe 8 people sitting/standing in the entryway waiting for a table and one woman was coughing and hacking more than normal. We only spent about 10 min waiting and I tried to position myself away from her, but that's all I can really think of.

Yes, he ordered from Luminae for every meal and it was a drop off at the door and run situation. It was a little odd but at least he could get fresh air still.

No option, we've begged and pleaded with no luck, all passengers must isolate on deck 3 going forward (on the Silhouette at least).

I have been very happy with Celebrity's response but I must also make mention when they fail. Today my husband tested positive at 9am. Nobody showed up to escort him down to deck 3 until 3pm even with multiple phone calls. Not sure why the ball got dropped today but it makes me think they are running around dealing with a lot of issues right now.

We had the option of separate or together. We chose together because we're married I suppose 😂

They promised the decision had no impact on the length of my isolation period.

You'll never really know where you were infected.  The BA2 strain is so contagious that in some areas it is everywhere.  Even if you are careful about masking and wear a good one properly, the biggest problem is that when you are eating or drinking you are unmasked and that provides the vector.  My wife picked it up two weeks ago from work (eating area) and brought it home to me and our 2yr old daughter. Fortunately, we have all recovered and I wish Jetblue and others a speedy recovery.

Glad that you are feeling better, but sorry your husband tested positive. Hope his symptoms are mild. If I understand correctly, you have 2 more days and if you test negative you can rejoin the cruise? 🤞🏻

Yes correct, I need to test negative on day 5 and day 6, day 6 being my release day if I come back negative on both tests.

@jetblueOne new question, buddy...

Are you now addicted to CC like many of us and upon returning home will spend at least ten (10) hours a day perusing the board and commenting??? LOL

Haha I used to be when I joined back in 2006 I think? I have to go back and look at my history. Lots of good info here but some bad info as well so I thought it would be helpful to document this for everyone.

That is a reason many of us do our best to put out the facts and only the facts and leave the conjectures to those with other agendas... LOL

Then again, even some of us slip up, too...

Welcome back to the fold...

I wonder if they'll reopen Deck 6 for our B2B on May 7.  Is not, where will we be relocated???

Quarantine on Deck 3, closer to medical center...HMMM...Call me skeptical.  I say, it has to do with $$$.  They can sell the balcony cabins for more than interior and outside.  Who can blame them?  The cruise line is just trying to survive.

I am also very skeptical of the justification for Deck 3 being close to the medical center.  It certainly is closer, but Celebrity has certainly used Deck 6 in the past.  I was on an Oceania cruise in January and they allowed the people who tested  positive to stay in their own cabins.  Perhaps they have a lot of people or crew in isolation on Deck 6?    Someone on board could put in a mask and see what deck 6 looks like at this point.  I suspect most of it may be blocked off.
anyone reading this thread currently staying on Deck 6?

Moving infected people from their suite/balcony to an Overview or inside cabin on Deck 3 certainly is not encouraging people to report any mild sickness.  (And being tested by ship personnel) I certainly would not travel today without several home self test kits.

Jetblue, sorry to hear that your cabin mate is now also positive.  Once you are symptom free good luck with your test.  Antigen test?
