Good morning from a sunny and slightly breezy central Texas.  It was 73F when I started, and will be about 81F this afternoon.  The start of the day was not auspicious as I woke to heavy clouds, wind and a cool damp feel to the air even though it was 68F when I left to get donuts before the little shop ran out.  If there is time today, I'll try to do some work outside including fixing a couple of sprinkler heads that are leaking.

I appreciate my DH everyday.  We did our taxes a couple of weeks ago and efiled them Monday.  It didn't take the IRS to suck the payment out of our bank account.  For once I'm in sync with a day since the last load of laundry is in the washer and the second load is drying.  There is not a specific day that I do laundry.  Laundry is usually the day before we will run out of clean underwear.  🤣

The Anais Nin quote is interesting, but I suspect there are some who live deeply but still fear death.

The salmon packets look interesting, and I was planning on salmon tonight.  However, I think it will be teriyaki salmon cooked in the air fryer along with a vegetable rice mix and a salad.  We'll pass on the drink, but would like to try the wine.  We've had Torres wine from Spain and enjoyed it very much, and the billboards along the highway that were just a black bull.

We have been to Venice several times on BHBs, but our first time was in 2016 on Prinsendam.  I am very glad we got to sail into and out of Venice more than once, since that is such a spectacular passage.  I'll look for my pictures in a few minutes.

I actually started working on this post quite a while ago, but stopped when DH got up and wanted breakfast.  Then the dryer stopped, so I need to fold and put that load away.  I hope to get this finished before the dryer stops again.

@ger_77  Gerry, I'm glad you are feeling better and will be able to enjoy the dinner tonight that your new friends are making.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, our condolences to you and your family on the passing of your cousin's DH.

@lindaler  Linda, you had a busy day outside yesterday.  There always seems be be a lot of work to be accomplished around the house and yard in the spring.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I'm sorry the knee is still a problem, and they did not pick up on the location of the drainage.  I hope the antibiotics do their thing quickly so the knee won't be a problem on your cruise and trip.

@Denise T  Denise, welcome to the Fleet/Daily.  We hope you will join us often.

@Heartgrove Jack and @StLouisCruisers Sandi, and any one else I missed, thank you for your pictures of Venice.

The problem with many visits to Venice there are just too many to choose from.  However, I'd rather have too many pictures than not enough.

We were there in 2016 and 2017 on the Prinsendam, and in 2019 on the Veendam.  So my pictures will be a mix from five visits, and will have to be broken up between two posts.

A couple of pictures as we sailed into port on the Veendam.

In 2016, during our first time in Venice, we got to the Doge's Palace ahead of the tours, and managed to get a senior ticket that included three other museums. The first picture is looking out the Bridge of Sighs toward the lagoon, which was the last look at the city for most prisoners.  The second picture is a repeat, but it puts the first one in perspective.DSC07711.thumb.JPG.f8b66ebdf857e9b5016363c52903f948.JPGDSC07769.thumb.JPG.868f9ab4cbcad4d0e5a49d9df44acbe7.JPG.

After the three other museums, we headed to the Campanella with advice to be back down before noon as the bells are deafening.  In the last pictures, you can see the Prinsendam "in front of the X ship.

On our second call there was after Venice had three days of heavy rain, and St. Marks Square was underwater.  We bypassed the area, and found a dry route to some of the back streets.

DSC08274.thumb.JPG.548949eadd0220f7fdcab37c370be2e2.JPG

On another visit, we took a gondola ride, but without the singing.

We have also toured the Opera house.

There was an art festival one time we were in Venice, and there were various temporary displays around the city.  This one was on the Grand Canal.

In 2017, we decided to check out the Arsenale, home of the Italian Navy and the Naval Museum, which had a display of various types of boats besides naval vessels.  These pictures are of the entrance to the restricted area of the naval facility.

Good morning all!

I appreciate my DH every day, and the fact that he takes care of all our taxes is only one reason.  Our income taxes are done and the deposit will arrive on the 19th.  I don't have any set laundry day, it just gets done when needed. We haven't been to Venice since 2006.  Thanks for the wonderful photos today!!  Will pass on the drink and red wine, but I printed off the first recipe -- I would add some garlic and more peppers, take out the snap peas.  Can't wait to make this, thanks Debbie @dfish 🙂

Well darn, I'm still showing a VERY faint red line in the positive.  This is day 11.  I read that there are a few people who show positive long after others stop.  Anyone else have this experience?  DH hasn't tested yet today, but 2 days ago he was still showing positive too.  Like any virus, my body just doesn't want to let go in a timely fashion.

Yesterday I got the Sweet Peas all planted outside and some parsley and spinach into a pot.  Waiting for the basil to show up in the nurseries.  I did most of that from a chair, and had to take several rests.  But it was so nice just getting outside.

I'm so happy to see that Laura's @TiogaCruiserDH's bag arrived.  Bon Voyage!

Bon Voyage Sharon @Sharon in AZ!  So glad you got much-needed rest last night.

Bon Voyage Susan @AV8rix!

Bon Voyage @Dismomx5!

Gerry @ger_77So glad you're feeling better -- enjoy dinner tonight!

Maureen @RMLincoln My condolences to the family on the death of your cousin's DH.  Safe travels to NY.

@Denise T Welcome to the Daily!  We hope to see a lot more of you here.

Jacqui @kazu It amazes me that you can grow tomatoes from seed.  Here, even when we buy full-size plants, we can't be assured enough sun to ripen them all before the end of the season.

Good morning Dailyites.

I haven't posted in a few days and need to catch up on everyone's lives.

I have been helping a friend clean out her mother's boxes (she passed away in November) as well as my friends boxes for a living estate sale yesterday and today. She has boxes and boxes of jewelry we put aside to sort thru later and we will have a jewelry sale at my house in a few weeks. I emptied out boxes of crystal,  silver, dishes, lladro and Polish pottery, paintings. They've lived in their home since the 50's and she had boxes she never unpacked when they came back from Germany. I took 3 girlfriends with me to help set tables up and lay things out. It's been crazy! We all "shopped" as we unpacked the boxes and came home with a trunk full of stuff..

I will take extra time tomorrow and read over cares, prayers, and celebrations. I know we have sail away today for Sharon and several other Daily members. Hoping everyone has fair winds and following seas.

Joy I was wondering this morning if we would hear from you today.  You really have been busy helping out your friend.  I hope you all enjoy your new treasures found while setting up for the sale.  The jewelry sale should be popular.  Do you advertise anywhere or just put signs up along the neighborhood roads?

Garden club: I have in mind to rebuild a raised bed alongside the (real) walk to the front door. It's only 4 inches high and the timbers are rotting, plus the soil is compacted and not very fertile. The question is whether to do it now or in the fall. I'm leaning toward the fall, both because there is too much else to do now, and because there are clumps of narcissi that will not have matured before other plants need to be in the ground. If I wait, I can dig and store the bulbs; perennials will have to be lifted, but only briefly.

Ugh on that work but it has to be done.  I think if it were me (if you want my opinion) I would wait for the Fall unless you can do it right away.  That way your perennials are undisturbed as they are probably waking up by now and no need to store the narcissi - you can replant them right away.  The only problem with that is the risk of not being able to get earth you need or lumber.  I would buy the lumber early and the earth so it is all ready to go so you are not stuck and can get it done lickety split.  Your plants will be very grateful.

When we built our deck, I had several perennials I wanted to save at the side of the house.  We stuck them in the garden (the big one on it’s side covered in earth) and when the deck was done 4 weeks later they were replanted and they all did well.  Just in case this is of help.

This raised bed was built by the previous owners, probably in the 1950s. I've added more in the back, because the soil here is shallow and rocky, especially on my street where the lots were all filled, it seems mainly with rock, to make them level.

I have the same problem - very little earth - stone/gravel underneath.  That’s why you see the brick wall along a number of the gardens (or the wood).  They all had to built up.  The previous owners did nothing landscaping wise here.  What you see in my pics when I post is all us.  DH knew I liked gardening but he got carried away.  I threatened him with divorce if he had another one done 😂

Bless you for helping your friend with all this.  It sure sounds like a lot of work.  😳  I am taking the easy way out and donating a lot of stuff.  Some of it to the Hospice Shop if I think it can fetch them a decent price and the rest to the general donation spot.  Jose always said God was good to us and we tended to donate or give away when we thought it could benefit others.

Well double dam.  I haven’t had covid that I am aware of (and I tested a lot when DH was in the hospital to protect hospital, him and the people in my bubble.  There were reports here that some people can test positive when they are no longer infectious - especially with rapid tests.  The virus can be in your system but it doesn’t mean you are still contaigious.

OMG I am so jealous.  It’s too cold here still for my sweet peas.  Risk of frost has to be gone.  I do start them early about 2 weeks out or so but have to be sure they can be moved “in time”.

the cherry tomatoes I had last year (I thought I was growing them for Jose) were all from seed.  You have to start them early - as I am doing now.  We have some varieties that ripen faster than others.  It worked last year so we’ll see what happens this year 🤞

I couldn't resist going back through my pictures of Venice, and of course, I found a few more to share.

We've taken the vaporetto along the Grand Canal at night several times, but twice we were lucky enough to grab a couple of seats in the very front.  Here are a few more night pictures along the Grand Canal.

On one visit in 2016 on Prinsendam, we took the vaporetto to Lido, which is one of the barrier islands shielding the lagoon form the ocean.  Since it was October 15, there were very few tourists on the island, which also allows cars and buses.

The restaurant in the picture above is the Rialto Restaurant, a part of the Rialto Hotel at the foot of the Rialto Bridge.  It is also our favorite place to get a pizza to share with a split of wine.  Their Margarita pizza is very good.  This is the restaurant looking down from the Rialto Bridge.

We've also found some of the best gelato on some of the back piazzas away from the heavy tourist areas.  My favorite is Stracciatella which means little rags.  In this case, it is a very creamy vanilla with little rough shards of chocolate, but I normally also get a scoop of dark chocolate too.

Fantastic collection of photos Lenda.

Like Sandi @StLouisCruisers your photos bring Venice to life.

We have been fortunate to see every where you have photographed but all of our memories are on video.

We stayed in the Hilton Molina stucky and got a speedboat from Marco Polo airport to our hotel and another speedboat in the morning to our ship

We've also found some of the best gelato on some of the back piazzas away from the heavy tourist areas.  My favorite is Stracciatella which means little rags.  In this case, it is a very creamy vanilla with little rough shards of chocolate, but I normally also get a scoop of dark chocolate too.

My favorite gelato also!!

I got a lot done, considering that I sat around all winter and the knee. I don't want to push it. So now it's relax the rest of the day or do little things to get ready.

@StLouisCruisers I have Annie's @marshhawk cruise on the list I sent to Eva @superoma. Also a couple of events on that list.

@Denise T Welcome to the Fleet Report and Daily! We hope to see you here often.

@Heartgrove Great photos from Venice! Thanks for sharing.

And I am tracking what you are doing on a daily basis. You do such a great job and I have big shoes to fill.

This is the first time we've had it, and we tested often too.  The good thing is I don't need to be around anyone for another week, and by then I better be testing negative after 18 days.  But yes, I've heard you can test positive for 90 days after (!)  I'm glad I'm not on a BHB, I'd never get out of my cabin.  🤣

Yesterday I got the Sweet Peas all planted outside and some parsley and spinach into a pot.

Thanks Jacqui.  I've always planted "Early Girl" here, but plants, not seeds 😉  We have such a short season, really only from July-early Sept.  Cherry tomatoes is another possibility for us.

I am curious about the orange striping. Did you apply it? Just what I am looking for.

- Jack

It’s just duct tape. I t periodically has to be changed. The purple circles were spray painted on. I wanted a unique bag.

I bought Home Depot orange initially because I organized the garage into HD “departments” a few years back. The orange tape sticks the signs to the wall, drawer or door.

Carolyn, I wish there was a way to erase that dreaded red line.  I'm glad you feel like doing some things even with rest breaks built in.

@Quartzsite Cruiserim with you. Whoops, last pair of clean knickers, time for laundry.

I think it might be a hold over from when the DDs were little.  I always leave at least one clean pair, just in case.  The exception is on a cruise since you never know how long the laundry will take before being returned.  I would not want to have to call Guest Services that we desperately need our laundry because we we're out of clean undies.  🤣

Joy, good to see you posting today.  I was concerned that you might still be under the weather.  I'm glad it was because you were doing a good deed helping your neighbor.  I hope the sale went well and the jewelry sale goes well too.

RCL Splendour of the seas.

Graham.

Thank you, Graham.  It is one of my favorite cities to wander around and see some of the different areas.

My favorite gelato also!!

When we were on the Koningsdam, it would show up in the gelato selection, but usually when we weren't ready for gelato.  I did get it once, and it was good, but not as good as that in Venice or anywhere in Italy for that matter.  Another great place to get it was a small gelattoria in Volterra, which is off the beaten path.

Good Morning, We don’t arrive to Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica until 11:00 AM and all aboard is 10:00 PM. We are on a sightseeing tour where we visit a coffee plantation, a church made of eggs which we are anticipating, a sit down lunch and botanical garden.

I have a correction from a previous statement I made. Nami Sushi is not half price for five star Mariners. We were told that by a fellow cruiser and it wasn’t the case. We kind of questioned that because of past dining but just want to clear that up, Tamarind yes but not Nami Sushi.

Dined in MDR last night and it was another fine dining experience.

We will be anxious to hear if any of our crew won any of the raffles or bingo games last night. The crew event was held in show room.
I was in a public bathroom and an attendant was cleaning. I thanked him for keeping the rest room clean and handed him a dollar and said buy yourself a raffle ticket. He was so appreciative and said “thank you so much, no one has ever done that for me.”

in case you didn’t see the picture of our sunset last night I will post again this morning. It was a beauty.

Haven’t had time to read the Daily post yet but hopefully everyone and their baggage got to Florida and they have a great cruise.

We met fellow CC member@Kurt and his wife last night. Nice couple.

Thanks to enjoy your Saturday.

Bruce

I’m really out of it these days, but Chief, are you on Volendam? One of our favourites on HAL is Pika, she was theTamarind manager on  Eurodam, and I think she said she was going to the Volendam.  If you are there, too, please give her a big hug from us, Pat and Ann.

Checking in late,  glad to hear most made it to their cruises with luggage!  That seems like a huge accomplishment these days!  Bon voyage!

@RMLincolnsorry to hear of the loss of your  cousin’s DH, my  condolences.

@DeniseT welcome, sounds like a spectacular cruise, enjoy!

Venice is one of my favourite cities,  it’s magical at night when the day trippers leave so I highly recommend staying there.  One of those places that are expensive but worth it.   We suggest staying in a smaller area and enjoy exploring,    We’ve been many times and it never gets old wandering around. Always something new to see,  we love checking out the markets and eating cicchetis,  small Venetian sandwiches.

Recommend going when the biennale is on and seeing some of the world class art.
