Rare rafinmd Posted May 5, 2023 #76 Share Posted May 5, 2023 One of my morning shows today had a feature on Wallis Simpson, a native of Baltimore. If King Edward's marriage had not led to his abdication and succession by King George VI, neither Elizabeth nor Charles III would have ascended to the throne and there would not have been a coronation. It seems everything has a connection to Baltimore. Roy 7 1

She was still married to her husband and I’m one of those fuddy duddies that believe if you have problems in your marriage you do your best to work them out together - not go sleep with someone else. Wallis and Camilla are cut from the same cloth as far as I am concerned (Camilla interfering with Charles and Diana). In the old days, they would have been courtesans, mistresses. And if that’s what Baltimore’s connection is with Wallis - it’s nothing to be proud of. Edward did damage to the throne. Estranged - he took any refuge - including the ***. HIs abdication led to Elizabeth’s father’s early demise. He wasn’t prepared but a good king. Sorry but I dislike both Wallis and Simpson and frankly wouldn’t want any association with them with my city or anywhere else. DH and I fought about it constantly (jokingly) as he would get my ire shouting “ Camilla will be Queen”. And he would get me going and start laughing. She was supposed to be consort - not queen. Sorry, I have no time for these ladies at all. Sorry, I am a bit stupid about this stuff. 11

I agree whole heartedly, when Charles married Camilla it was stated she would only ever become Princess Consort. Much Later, Queen Elizabeth stated she wished that Camilla would become Queen consort. We’ll never know if she was pressured, but IMO it is a slap in the face to many that she will be queen, as now they quietly drop the consort. Which was NOT the deal. But she will not be mine! I think this is the end and the polls I have read agree with the majority in Canada no longer wanting a monarch as head of state. Queen Elizabeth not be replaced for me. I do have a little sympathy in that Charles wanted to marry Camilla years ago, but that wasn’t allowed. But how Diana was treated and the carrying on were wrong, and to have him as head of the Church of England is a bit of a stretch for me. @ger_77how fun! Cruising-along Posted May 5, 2023 #84 Share Posted May 5, 2023 Greetings from the Koningsdam on our last full day of the cruise. Hard to believe we’ll be back home tomorrow. We’ll have a few days at home and then off to Yellowstone. I shouldn’t have said the other day that we haven’t even had any billing problems, I must have jinxed myself. Thanks to the Concierge it’s all been quickly taken care of though. I had pre-booked our free 5-Star Tamarind and Pinnacle dinners, paying full price. We watched that we’d get the refund in OBC. It came through early in the cruise but then a couple days later it was gone (most likely that infamous night auditor. He didn’t even refund a 50% discount much less freebie. 🙄 Other than that we’ve had a great time. I’ve given up posting on “that complaint thread” since he’s ignoring everything I say. He seems to only want to hear other complaints. We’re having a nice sea day. A talk this morning about life on the ship, lunch in the Pinnacle, and will be off to play Bingo in a minute. Then a reception for Presidents Club and 5-star, prime rib dinner and then a movie. Last night’s Orange Party was the most attended I’ve ever seen. But then this cruise is crazy full. On our way to lunch the line for MDR lunch was stretched clear past the Orange Club. I told DH there’s nothing I would wait that long for! 17

quilty964 Posted May 5, 2023 #86 Share Posted May 5, 2023 Happy Friday and Cinco de Mayo! A Mexican food truck stops in our community on Thursday afternoons. We got food yesterday, and will have the leftovers tonight. It's been a pleasant day here, maybe spring has really arrived...still haven't washed my winter jacket though. Thanks for all that contribute here, prayers for all who need them, and cheers to the rest! Have a great weekend! K
kochleffel Posted May 5, 2023 #87 Share Posted May 5, 2023 My mother said often that she would never vote for a divorced man for president of the U.S. In her view, if a marriage failed, the husband was always at fault, and presumed to be dishonest at best, with worse possibilities left unspoken. For a frame of reference, if my mother were alive now, she would be 111 years old, and with a rural upbringing, her attitudes were Victorian. On the other hand, she thought of the Edward-Wallis story as one of the great romances of all time. I don't think that their carryings-on were widely known over here, and my mother didn't read the gossip columns, so she didn't know much about the hijinks of movie stars, either. FDR's relationships with Lucy Mercer--who was at his side when he died--and Missy LeHand (probably only an emotional connection) were not mentioned at all during his lifetime. Neither was his paralysis.

Carolyn, the refunding of pre-paid five star specialty reservations was an ongoing problem for us in 2021 and 2022 on Koningsdam. It got so bad, I was spending hours at Guest Services in 2021, and finally had enough, so we canceled the remaining reservations. In 2022, we booked on board, and still had problems, especially with the Pinnacle Grill. That time, we'd send a message on the Navigator, and the problem was corrected quickly. We'd also get a call within minutes of sending the message. We were also told there is not "night manager" or "night auditor". So much for urban legends. BTW, I quit reading the complaining thread before I finished the first page. Lenda 13
kochleffel Posted May 5, 2023 #91 Share Posted May 5, 2023 To my surprise, the refrigerator arrived on time this morning. I needed help to get the cabinet down, and the fridge arrived before the handyman did, so it was rather crowded in the kitchen for most of the day, with the new fridge a foot out from the wall and the old one right in the middle of everything.

NextOne Posted May 5, 2023 #93 Share Posted May 5, 2023 Late in the day, but I'm finally catching up. I was supposed to have an echocardiogram and a consult with the heart surgeon today, but he (!) call at 7:19 this morning and left a message explaining there was an emergency and he would have to reschedule. His scheduler called just before 8 am, & I caught that call. So now we're on for next Friday. I'm impressed that he actually tried to contact me, but annoyed that I still have to wait for another week! I had to go up to that area anyway because I left my cosmetic bag in the hotel when I checked out last weekend. My 50th college reunion was fun - glad I went - but who were all those old women????😋 14
