Oasis - reading reviews not so great, getting nervous

Recommended Posts

I haven't been on RCCL in about 10 years and so excited for Oasis and reading reviews making me nervous.  People saying that it's too crowded, not enough to do during the day, everything closes early, no towel animals?  lol.  And just overall lots of complaints. I sure hope this isn't the case.  Anyone have good things to say?  I know it's not carnival but I do like to see cruise director and stuff and people bringing the fun on, hearing some carribbean music and to be entertained as well as relax.  Going with a variety of people, in our 50's and some 40's and kids mostly teens.  Just looking for some positives.  Thanks.

A LOT of cc members did oasis middle of march. A lot of us made comments on the live thread. Except for one group who didnt get the right seating together in mdr I dont remember anyone else complaining. ..and we managed during spring break.

Maybe go reread a positive review and dont let every little gripe upset you.

After the cruise we didnt notice the SUV uber cost 30% more to ft Lauderdale.  Trying to think of complaints. I think a lot of people complain because they are bored.

I was on Oasis June 9-16 and loved it. I was worried about crowds however it wasn’t bad. I saw lines for Windjammer at lunch but it appeared to move quickly (I did not eat in WJ so I may be off on that). Although the ship was at capacity, the crowds were spread and I never felt it was a problem. Most bars stayed open to 1am and the nightclub even later. My 22 year old had things to do with the 20 something year old she met until the 2 or 3 am. Hyperlink (ages 18-25?) was a great way to meet other young adults. There were also a few late night spots for food (pizza). My nephew enjoyed the teen camp (13-17) and said there was lots to do in the camp area as well as meeting other teens. Everyone has different expectations but I did not have any negative experiences and enjoyed the cruise. Enjoy yourself. It is vacation!!!

I was on the 5/21 sailing with a group of 16 people. Venues that had trivia and karaoke were very crowded, standing room only. It was not worth going to these activities. The WJ was too crowded during breakfast and lunch. We looked for alternative areas such as JR's for breakfast.

Oasis is a great ship. When reading reviews online, keep in mind people are far more likely to post when they have something negative to say. I have lost count of the negative comments about a specific cruise on this and other websites, when I was on the same cruise and had a great time.

Sailed on Oasis in October last year from NJ, a great ship with lots to do. Do not be put off at all, lots of venues are open late, lots of places to eat throughout the day and night as well as lots of activities as well. Go and enjoy yourself, we did.

Must've found someone who was looking to gripe, because we did Oasis in February and loved it so much we are going back in October, Never feels crowded except maybe the buffet at times and some of the smaller venues like Karaoke and trivia... but there is PLENTY to do all day long, we had towel animals every other night, basically (told us they cut down to 3-4 per week), hot tubs are open 24 hours, pizza and casino are open until at least 3am, and the cafe is open 24 hours. Some bars, like music hall have live entertainment until 2am.  Don't worry about a few negative reviews, people are more likely to post negative experiences, believe me- there are plenty more positive ones out there. When is your cruise? We go October 1st

Thank you.   I go august 4th.  Going with a group of 16 but I booked later than them so I’m the only one without a balcony and only single.  Most have kids but when they go off and go their own thing they will have eachother 🤷🏼‍♀️. My teen probably gonna leave me too lol. I’m sure I’m stressing for nothing

The ship, service and crowd are excellent.  Plenty to do or you can sit by the pool and enjoy the band and a drink.  Perhaps if you go holiday weeks very crowded, but you can always find a quiet spot to chill.  We were on her last August, and will be on her again this August.  Love the service and the crowd.  Yes during sea days, you might find some favorite spots busy, but move to another.  So much for teens and kids to do also.

Enjoy your cruise.

You are on the wrong forum.

Here there are RCCL employees posting against anyone who dares criticise the company as well as pure fans where royal can do no wrong.

Fact is that ships vary a lot. Even month by month. They have little to no consistency even when serving the same drinks and food.

My advice is to keep your expectations very low on quality and very high on what you will be charged for it. Then you wont get any shocks.

10 years ago everything was likely better, cheaper and more consistent than it is now or ever will be.

We were on Oasis for this past March break and loved it!  We went to MDR each night and enjoyed.  Tons of food options.  I would say the only time it felt crowded was the karaoke / trivia place on Promenade (I forget the venue name offhand). And advice for the Windjammer at breakfast...try and go early or off hours.   Otherwise, crowds not an issue.

And tons to do. Not sure how someone can be bored between things like zipline and slides, and then the cruise compass activates.

Best Aqua show we've seen so far.

They did switch over to room cleaning once a day when we went but it wasn't a huge deal.  (I personally  preferred when they cleaned when we went to dinner since they would then remove our dirty towels from showering).  And my worry too..but we did get towel animals.  Probably around 4-5 during the week long cruise.

Not sure who the cruise director is now, but the one we had was visible...mostly at shows but also things like Belly Flop contest. He was fun.

People tend to complain a lot on here, but Oasis is amazing. You have nothing to worry about.

Have an amazing cruise.

You had Ricky, as did we, as the cruise director- he was great, funny and very visible-- saw him at many activities and shows, and just walking around. He left last month and there is a new CD, Katy, on the ship- I hear she is also great...which I'll find out in a few months!

There is always one on every forum that wants to claim that only "cheerleaders" have positive things to say about a line.

Was on Oasis 3/5/23.  She was great.  I saw lines at the windjammer however I didn't eat there.  Outside of that crowds were not an issue.  Oasis is a great ship with great staff.  Enjoy your cruise.

We've been oin 2 Royal cruises since startup, and enjoyed them both.  The second one was after the menu change, and never had a problem finding something to eat, and it always came out hot, and good. I don't work for Royal, and have sailed most of the majors except HAL and Disney, as you can see by my signature.

I don't understand how anyone can say there is nothing to do on an Oasis class.  There is always something going on.

In terms of crowds, the places it seems to get most crowded is karaoke, Sorrento's and the buffet at times if everyone shows up at once.  Besides those places, I felt the Oasis handled crowds pretty well.

We never had trouble finding a pool chair especially if you are ok with laying a deck up.

I'm not close to being a cheerleader...I cruise NCL as much as Royal. Carnival too. I can't imagine what one could complain about. There are gonna be lines sometimes.  You are going to have to wait sometimes. There are pros and cons of really big cruise ships.  Entertainment...the best.  Overall food choices...very good.  Specialty restaurant choices....among the best.  Lots of pool choices.  Nice cabins and good service.  Usually Oasis is the bargain for Oasis-class ships. Only complaint I might have over other ships is getting on and off the ship.  LOTS of people. Looking at an 8-day on Oasis right now!

I agree with so much of what others have said.

When you sail enough you start comparing experiences. For example, last year we took 2 cruises: on one, the food wasn't great, the next one, no complaints at all. Did the cruise with lackluster food ruin our trip? Nope. But to be honest, it would take A LOT of things going wrong in order for us to be anything but grateful for the luxury of a vacation. That's just us, that's certainly not everyone else's viewpoint, so you have to read reviews from that vantage. Be excited about your trip and ENJOY!
