Vaping Signs Removed…My conversation with the Revenue Director

Celebrity became our line of choice because of their limit on smoking.
I don’t frequent the casino, but I am afraid vaping and eventually smoking will spread around the ship.  If vaping is allowed in one area which has no signage, surely vapers would assume it is acceptable in all areas without signage.

Removing signage is NOT the answer.

If vaping is a problem on our upcoming cruise it will be our last one on Celebrity.

To your point, I am sitting my balcony (deck 7) with a cup of coffee. Wafting from somewhere is the pungent and offensive odor of someone vaping on their balcony.

Remind me, does the sticker on the balcony door only say no smoking or does it also include vaping?

I was interested about what the Celebrity Code of Conduct said regarding smoking and this is the first paragraph under that heading.

"For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our Celebrity ships are non-smoking. Hookahs and other types of water pipes are prohibited from use under this non-smoking designation."

Of course then it goes on to explain where and what you can smoke on the ships.

Give Celebrity another 8 weeks and they'll change it.

Also, if it's just "word of mouth" what is to stop that word from going to other ships? And then if anyone is called on it, they can say "There were no signs, but we were told it's by word of mouth. We heard!"

It's the most asinine policy and/or explanation.

Does anyone know if the casinos on Celebrity ships were equipped with air purification systems that likely would be used if there was smoking allowed from the get-go? I'm not confident they would work, and they certainly wouldn't help if you were sitting next to someone, but I would be concerned that the venue isn't even equipped with what one would find on other ships or land-based casino attempting to mitigate air pollution.

I got this from letter return email from Celebrity this morning in response to my email yesterday.

Dear Mr. Doane:

Thank you so much for this valuable feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to contact the Executive Offices at Celebrity Cruises.

This test is currently taking place in the casinos on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse through August 20th. It is a test at this point, and all feedback is being taking into consideration, so again, thank you.

As a brand we will continue to keep our guests as the main focus, and you taking the time to reach out is truly beneficial and appreciated. Again, thank you so much for the feedback provided regarding our recent change.

Sincerely,

I was a secretary in college.  Can you imagine the old days with someone typing up these letters one by one before copiers and mimeograph machines? “We regret to inform you that vaping is allowed on the stagecoach.”

If Celebrity is truly doing just a test and they are going to consider all feedback, we all need to flood them with our objections to the possibility of changing the smoking/vaping policy. Send emails to: ExecutiveOffice@celebrity.com

They are a little different - the one I got yesterday stated his test is currently in place on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse through August 20, and at this time there has been minimal to no impact to our guests experience onboard.  Vaping will only be allowed in certain areas of the casino for casino guests, during operating hours only. Cigarettes, pipes, and cigars will still be prohibited in the casino.

I replied back to them You state that there has been minimal to no effect on casino guests. I want to reiterate that vape exhaust does affect people around the vaper.  Vape also leaves a residue on surfaces - what precautions are being taken to make sure that the Health and Wellbeing of all guests are being safe guarded.

they had these in the lounges on Royal years ago when cig smokers only  could  smoke during  set hrs..It had   mixed results in cleaning  the  space.. stench lingers on furniture etc..

They were smart enough to remove the stupid statement about minimal to no impact to guests.  But the last sentence is still ill conceived.    Is this a change or just a test?

If you’re cynical and realistic then it’s a change.

If you stop and smell the flowers, it’s a test.

Thanks for posting, GP. So far we have demonstrated our ability to get signs removed.

While I do agree that it is a test.  I think that it is a test to see how best to deploy it to other ships.

It is yet another Celebrity money grab.

I will send my e-mail now though.

I also received a similar email response however she did state that she attempted to call me but was unsuccessful.  She had the wrong phone number but did give me her phone number.
