Vaping "test" over?

After a terrible cruise on Summit in March ‘23, we were provided $$$ worth of FCC’s.  Our suite flooded necessitating a change of suites at 11 PM, nothing sent to Shoreside Concierge was passed along to the ship, a butler who barely engaged with us and then grudgingly and a fall on the steps necessitating a Medical Center visit (no charge).  We will use those FCC’s next year and that will be our last X cruise.  The pricing for suites on X is now ridiculous and we will move on to MSC Yacht Club, Oceania and Regent.

If continues to devalue the suite experience, we will bite the deposit and FCC’s.  We have no problem paying for an upgraded cruise experience and IOO X no longer delivers.

If this is really going to go fleetwide, and it sounds pretty much like it is, I guess I need to spend more time reading the Alternatives to Celebrity thread!  I've always loved Celebrity - 20+ years and 70+ cruises).

@phoenix_dream some of us are already there checking out and actually sailing alternatives.  Especially for the folks like me who have primarily sailed in The Retreat.  I am doing this for a number of good reasons, and honestly having a few people at most vaping in the casino (yes annoying) are not anywhere near the top of my list.  I can always avoid the casino or not go near a vaping person.  But I cannot avoid the very high prices of suites and the simultaneous loss of suite amenities.

I talked to my TA on Friday.

She won the hall of fame award from Celebrity.

she confirmed the vaping test is over and the old non smoking policies are coming back.

That would be great. But...

So question is are the old no vaping or smoking policies back in place for all ships while they decide whether they decide to allow vaping fleet wide or have they already decided to not go with allowing vaping based on the test results? Based on the language shared by earlier posters, unfortunately it sounds like they will take just a few weeks to formally announce fleet wide vaping allowed in casinos.

Since Celebrity didn't formally announce from the beginning with the two test ships we'll wait until we are onboard to see what that specific ship policy is for vaping in the casino.

Posts on other site from some disembarking from the Equinox that vaping is now only in smoking areas.  Pictures of the daily confirming back to original policy.

True.  And on a FB site a very reliable resource has indicated that it will remain only in the smoking areas.  Hope that ends up being the truth!

From the Summit on FB.

The trial ended this weekend, so of course the Eclipse and Equinox are returning to past practice of no vaping. This is consistent with what the person who called me from the Executive Offices said. Now they say the results of the trial will be "discussed" and a determination of whether or not to permit vaping in casinos fleet wide will be made. No indication of when that will happen, but the return of no vaping in the short run was expected and is in no way an indication of whether or not it will be allowed in the future.

I agree @TeeRick -- We have become fond of booking suites and the current Retreat prices make all the other stuff irrelevant. However, running a very close second (maybe because we were affected twice) is their treatment of those of us whose cruise was cancelled. For us, it was the 11/1/24 Beyond TA and the 11/9/24 Apex TA. Really left the feeling of just being baggage that was tossed aside to get more $$$. Absolutely no recognition of the impacts on real people.

Post 86 says "only in smoking areas". Sounds like vaping is definitely allowed in the casino. No going back to "past practice" of no vaping.

I took that to mean in the already designated outside smoking areas. The casino for years has not been a designated smoking area.

We were on the Equinox the 1st week of this month, and the slots had "no smoking, vaping permitted" readouts on their displays.  However, I can't recall seeing anyone vaping at any of the machines, and we spent several hours a day sitting at the slots.

I keep hearing that some of the ships have non smoking casinos but it’s not really too clear. I’ve posted on the HAL board to try to get actual passengers to confirm this.

I was on the Westerdam in June and there was no smoking in the casino.

The quote "non-interest on part of vapers" appears to be the key here.

Celebrity hoped that allowing vaping would increase gambling in casinos, but it appears vapers have not shown up in sufficient quantities at the casino.  Hopefully our writing campaign to the executive office has convinced them the risk-reward would point towards not allowing vaping in casinos.

IMO, that would have been the deciding factor. Not what the HD said according to Lucy Joshua Kohler.

I also received an update a section of which is shown below

"Upon careful consideration of all feedbacks received from our valued guests, the test that took place in the casinos on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse through August 20th has discontinued" - no reason for the discontinuation - but I am pleased it has stopped.

Not a reliable source. Contradicting statement from what has already been posted. Supposedly vaping is no longer allowed in the casinos but still allowed onboard. BTW, vaping has always been allowed in the designated smoking areas of the ship, fleetwide. Not the casino.
