Just because it's not your thing doesn't make it ridiculous for someone else to look forward to.

That's the most interesting reason I've ever heard to book. Waiting til 21 or a specific itinerary I get completely, but waiting til she can go in the Solarium? Rule changes have affected a lot of people. The change in how points are calculated and the addition of Emerald cost us making D by one cruise. Oh well, such is life. We went on the booked cruise and made it one cruise later. We could have whined about it and said it wasn't fair, etc. But, guess what? We didn't. We just went with the flow and moved on. Rare cruiselvr04 Posted September 28, 2023 #133 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Personally I think this is great. I don’t hate kids. It’s just nice to have an adult place to go on ships when there are lots of kids on board. It’s not always quiet when adult groups get loud but at least there’s no loud pool music. Teens sometimes don’t know how to behave especially later in the day and later in the week it seems to get worse. Honestly if you have a quiet teen16-18 I’m guessing no one will say a thing. This gives Royal a way to keep noisy, rowdy teen groups out.

I didn't say that it was a highlight of my cruise. I've never been. But if it is my highlight what is it to you? I enjoy reading by a pool. In the fall from NJ that doesn't leave many days to do it outside. Hence, Solarium is a highlight of the ship. Very much discussed on here, which is why we wanted to try. In no way, shape, or form did I say that others opinions on the matter aren't valid. I just would have appreciated a warning or starting for cruises booked after the announcement.

This went on for hours. Not only was it a distraction and uncomfortable for those enjoying the venues, but they witnessed their parents get sh*^-faced and act like fools. What they witness in the privacy of their own home is one issue but what they witness and how they act in a public bar is another. I for one, complained to no avail. That's why I say, a lot, UNENFORCED rules. This is just one example that they DO, IN FACT, disrupt the casino. Yes, there is a rule that kids can only walk through the casino, but this example is an example of another rule/policy that isn't enforced, as I've stated many times. I mean, that sucks and I'd be pissed, too. But Playmakers is a sports bar, not the casino.

Seems like a pretty random change to me. Will they change the fitness center age limit from 16 to 18 to also be "consistent" with policies? If they really want to be consistent, then perhaps "Kids Sail Free" should go up to age 17, instead of ending at age 12. Eventually they'll probably want to charge a fee to enter the "exclusive adults only zone". And we all know people will pay.

goldfish65 Posted September 29, 2023 #143 Share Posted September 29, 2023 They never enforce rules, and if your daughter is quiet, and the solarium isn't so full that she'd be preventing anyone from having a spot, then what is the harm in her being there?

I also remember when kids were to be seen and not heard and it was unheard of for adults to be "partying" around minor children. Clearly things have changed. Growing up my parents had tons of cocktail and dinner parties, we stayed out of sight. However they also hosted family celebrations and there was a ton of drinking, cocktail hour lasted around 3 hours, then wine with dinner, later cordials. Us kids would sneak the remnants of drinks. Might’ve been our Irish/Scottish heritage.

Might’ve been our Irish/Scottish heritage. Sounds very familiar to my upbringing. My dad was a Golf Pro in Montreal Canada, he socialized with the upper crust of society, so lots of high and mighty parties and social events at our home. We were to be seen and not heard. But, we would sneak around (my mom would put sponges in the bottom of the plastic coasters with grill-type inserts) and we would suck up the moisture from those sponges (sounds terribly gross today, doesn't it), and we would also drink the remnants. Mostly condensation from the sponge in the coaster but some sloppy drinkers had lots of adult beverage in them. Man, we enjoyed those parties.

And there isn’t a pool in the Solarium anyway. People as usual are missing the whole point. It’s not about one’s behavior because adults can behave worse than kids. It’s about freeing up space for a segment of the cruise to enjoy a particular space. When I’m looking for a seat in an adults only venue and I see groups of loungers taken by young teens I get annoyed. I know so many in our society feel they are entitled to everything but if you’re not 18 (quiet, calm reading or loud and obnoxious) stay out of the solarium. It’s pretty simple. You’re not special and don’t warrant an exception.
