People have occasionally missed this when they don't use the app. Agree, never disagreed. I called out the person on this thread for saying it was a requirement. Here is what they say on the topic in their Setting Sail brochure. I was pleased with these guidelines. Cell Phone Service In order to maintain Windstar’s atmosphere of casual elegance and intimate retreat, we ask guests to consider the following cell phone courtesy guidelines: • Cell phone service is intended primarily for guests’ use in the privacy of their own stateroom or suite. • Talking on cell phones is discouraged in public areas such as dining areas or lounges, and guests are asked to set their phone’s ringer to vibrate when in public areas We have been party to multiple Facetime calls on our recent sailings in the Retreat lounge, MDR and Oceanview. These rules are SIMPLE, easy to comply with and you have me at "...Atmosphere of casual elegance and intimate retreat"!!!!

But the Poster was just asking if you had the whole conversation in a public area or did you move to your cabin. Personally I would have moved to the cabin where I had paper and pen to make notes even if that meant asking the bank to call me back in 5 minutes to give me time to get there. The aim of the OP was not to get phones banned but to have areas where the use was restricted.
gold1953 Posted December 7, 2023 #108 Share Posted December 7, 2023 Having conversations on a phone withing hearing distance of others is rude. Say hello and walk to a more private place as you talk.
cruzeluver Posted December 7, 2023 #109 Share Posted December 7, 2023 Would be just another policy that folks would come here to complain is not being enforced i.e. chair hogs, children in the solarium, vaping, appropriate attire etc.

There is no emergency that he can you can help him with. No, but maybe if a family member is dying, or a dog has to be euthanized, you can see them or speak to them one more time. I know that I was glad to say goodbye to my dog when she had to be put down, and waiting for us to return from vacation would have been cruel and painful for her. 1

Let's be clear, your dog didn't know you were saying goodbye to her. When you left on your cruise your dog didn't know if you would be back in 5 minutes, 5 days or 5 weeks. Did you have this conversation with your dog poolside or in the privacy of your cabin? It is amazing to me that people can't accept the concept of simply being courteous to their fellow passengers.
TeeRick Posted December 7, 2023 #112 Share Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) I'd support no cell phones in dining venues. At least for talking. Texting would be fine. Edited December 7, 2023 by TeeRick

Then they gave me a collect number to call back later for follow ups to get a new card as 1 it was middle of the night in Canada and 2 my phone is a work phone and I was travelling internationally. Rare NMTraveller Posted December 7, 2023 #115 Share Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Then this thread would not apply to you. You can always pull off to the side and continue the conversation or get a number to call them back. This thread is about people being obnoxious and having loud conversations on their cell phones in quiet relaxing places. Oblivious people or likely they just don't care about anyone else around them. Sign of the times, I guess. I like the idea of joining in on the conversation! I am the first to tell my husband to leave the area and take the call elsewhere, away from people. That's not just on ships, that's anywhere. I don't think the cell phone itself is the problem unless people are playing videos or music without headphones. And it's a little unfair to be annoyed that you found a quiet spot to relax and someone ruined it with their loud conversation. They also found a quite place to have a conversation where they disturbed the least amount of people. I could be on board with a "quiet area", But it should apply across the board. No music, phones, loud talking, kids running around, etc. I believe that's called your cabin!

I personally don't find it unreasonable to have a "quiet" area of the ship. People have suggested that ship libraries are quiet areas. If you go to the spa, usually the relaxation room is a "quiet" area. I believe "the hideaway" on ships that have it request that it is a quiet area. Designated quiet areas are a good idea, everyone has their own idea of what a fun cruise is. Expecting that you can walk into a random lounge for quiet and another person who wants to take a cell phone shouldn't do the same is unreasonable. They are taking their cell phone call in there for the same reason you came in. No background noise and not many people around.
